So why can't Artist put birds in front of the hook but Hag can place down traps?

Classic BHVR game design being contradictory and making no sense.

Probably because Hag's traps can't push people off of gens from anywhere on the map.

Hag is an older killer. BHVR's design choices of making killer powers not work around hooks didn't really start until the last couple of years.

Yeah but how hard is it to change that one thing about an older killer? They just recently changed her traps so they get triggered by downed survivors.

For them it is as hard as coding properly hair movements :)

Hag probably wouldn’t be able to do that if she was created today.

I expect if Hag were to ever get changes on a mid-chapter they would make her traps disappear if too close to hook. But BHVR doesn't really make single adjustments like that. If they are going to touch Hag, they are going to make multiple adjustments to her traps.

That was actually worded badly in the ptb patchnotes, what they actually did is they just fixed a bug that allowed downed survivors to prevent OTHER survivors from triggering traps by crawling on top of them. They still will not trigger traps on their own.

Yeah, I just discovered I can’t put birds down near gate (gate switch) today too. I was in game where I had a drop, 2 cars+palet combo. Thought I could place a bird near gate and push them to that side.

    NOPE

    Bird just disintegrates.

Because Artist could place a bird, launch it to interrupt, then get a grab/practically instant down, just like Bubba or Huntress (with oak haft especially).

Hag still has to go through the default 3 second cooldown, meaning you can unhook in front of her if she hits you. You'll just be trading.

It makes some sense, if you look at the timeline. They did this with the Twins, since you could just camp the hook with either. It stands to reason they'd apply the same to Artist. It would require them to go back and recode some of Hags bits and bobs, something they will tell you 'isn't on the schedule.'

But at the same time, she needs it. She's 110%. If you couldn't trap around hooks, you'd negate at least 1/4th of a map for her, shutting down entire tile sets depending on hook rng. She can't chase already, so that would just put her in the rubbish bin.

For the most part it actually seems like out dated design and I'm surprised they never updated it

Because Artist can fire them to injure survivors without having to be there and moves at 115%, whereas Hag moves 110% and has to teleport to the trap to injure.
