Giving the hatch is punished, pips-wise ...
... but when a game is "over", I don't really care about hooking the last survivor. I know that I've "won" and that's enough. I don't really need the additional BPs of a last hook either.
However it's usually the difference between one and two pips, and I kind of like seeing that color shifting to the red.
What do you think?

just hook the last survivor.

Ive gotten multiple double pips with giving the last survivor hatch so it doesnt really affect me.
I typically only give hatch though if theyre a good survivor so their mmr goes up, and if i dont need the hook for a challenge or something.

The hatch effectively cancels the MMR for that survivor against you (else I wouldn't give the hatch at all).

If you care about pips then don't give the hatch. Simple.

I don't care about pips anymore honestly since it is not related to matchmaking.
If I want to let people go I do.

My thoughts are
- I don’t care at all about pips and grades. I guess the monthly bonus bloodpoints from them are nice? 🤷♂️ But I never think about them when I’m playing, they’re meaningless aside from that reward and you’ll get a decent reward regardless if you play regularly.
- Why would you expect the system to give you the same reward when someone escapes by hatch versus when you actually kill them?

so only gate escapes are counted as a win? Then are hatch escapes counted as a "tie" in the game?

Correct, hatch escapes do not get counted whatsoever, MMR-wise it's as if you never played against that person (for both sides). So if you really want to let the last survivor out, you gotta give them the hatch if you do not want to impact your or the survivors mmr to much. And it does not punish you so heavily in emblems as well, so easier pipping with giving hatches than letting tha last out of a gate.

Deathgarden, BHVR's other now defunct assym game, allowed you to spare the survivors, while still getting points for yourself via Mercy.
This game would do well with a Mercy system, giving that killers let people live for a myriad of reasons.

Interesting.
Obviously, that's what I end up doing each month.
Pips and grades are basically the only remaining sense of progress left. It's a drive for some people.
There is more work letting someone escape through hatch than just hooking him or letting him bleed out. The goal has been effectively achieved. Dropping the survivor in a 3m radius of the hatch would be easy to detect. (Not that I necessarily disagree with you.)
Seems like a nice idea.
On one hand it goes against the horror theme, on the other that theme has left a long time ago.

Of course you don't get the extra pip if you let a Survivor escape
