What is the point of the keys now?

Similar to Mori's, they are casualties of long needed balance updates.
Old Moris were insane and needed to be cut down to size - and so they have become a pervasively rare sight in the game where they were both terrible and frequent.
Keys are much of the same, they needed to be fixed - as they gave an incredible and uniquely unfair advantage to survivor teams when a single one is either brought into the trial or gained through a chest by sheer chance. In the same way, they were terrible and frequent in matches, but now they are a very rare sight that are scarcely ever used.
It is a good change, but the keys themselves are nearly vestigial in nature; a remnant of times past due to the major shift of healthy changes.
That being said, I'd like to see Keys being granted more use overall. Perhaps they can open chests super fast, and give a boost to exit gate opening speeds as well. Keys should probably also have an addon that conceals the user's aura at expense to charges - and perhaps an Iridescent addon that causes the hatch to spawn similar to how it used to pre-update.
In that case, it may be the best of all the worlds.
As it stands, the keys stand as a vigilant memorial to a horribly balanced game mechanic that has since been shifted for the better.
The ship has already sailed, and here we stand - without the boat - holding the oar.
