Hateful messages

Does anyone else get hateful messages from players when you are playing the killer. I am not breaking any rules when I play I have already checked to make sure. I play to do all challenges in the archives and that's what I am doing and players are sending me hateful messages. I guess my question is, is this normal? It's a survival/ killer game you either die or survive. People get really mad when they die. WHY?

Because toxicity isn't real according to BHVR

Now that chat is filtered, you can't even report people for what they say anymore.

I think it's by design tbh

It's very common especially from survivors.

While there can be hateful messages from either side it tends to be far more common from survivors especially if you play in a non toxic way (if you constantly tbag, click etc. You make get extra messages from killer)

I get survivors send me hate as a survivor, the community is a very angry one if it doesnt go exactly their way.

    Unfortunately it is relatively normal

I'm on Xbox so I don't get a ton of messages as it's a lot more work to send messages on console but I've never received messages complaining about something I did, something they did, something I used, something I didn't use, something a teammate did, etc than I do in this game.

It's...baffling how GD whiny so many players in this game are and how many "unwritten rules" that you are required to follow in order to play correctly this player base has.

I just reply LOL (or LOL-like phrases) to everything. There's no need to argue with anyone who thinks you're an awful human being that deserves to die for having the audacity to kill their digital character in a game where your goal is to kill their digital character...

100% by design, I bet it saves them a lot of time when dealing with reports.

OP, close chat and if you are on Steam make your profile private if you play killer. Sadly this is the reality of playing killer in DBD and is part of the reason many just say enough is enough and stop playing killer altogether.

    Turn off messages

Competitiveness is the reason why people don't like to lose

Unfortunately there are still kids or grownup kids that still don't know how to handle a loss, so yeah i think most of us here have had hate messages or like me some even had death treats.

It just shows how stupid some people can be losing their ######### over a videogame.

I never had any problem with receiving them, but if you do than i suggest to just close the chat window.

Or when you are on console close your message box

I always get hateful messages when playing both sides which is why I keep my chat to friends only.

    I've turned my chat off.

I only play Killer/Solo, so I just pretend everyone else is a bot.

You can't play killer and not get toxic messages. Its perfectly normal.

It doesn't matter what side I play I get hateful messages everyday telling me how terrible me and my family are because I beat them in a video game.

Why? Because there are, unfortunately, a lot of ######### people in this world who are sociopaths and don’t care how their words or actions affect others. It’s just the reality of the world we live in.

As for what can be done about it, turning off the chat is best. Just turn it off and leave it off - pretend it’s not even there. BHVR really should just get rid of it, because its only purpose is to serve as a platform for toxicity.

I know exactly what you mean. It's dissapointing and a little demoralizing. Even though it's a competitive game It still doesn't justify it.

I play on gamepass and I get people who go through the effort to message me from their Xbox and try to add me to groups so they can ddos me. It's insane.

When I play killer there's a little more than a 50% chance that I will receive a hateful or spiteful message.

Its always so over the top too, I get it, losing can suck...but dont tell me to end my life over it...or call me a slur.

Play on console or turn off the chat.

Ignore messages from strangers on the internet.

    Yeah sadly.

    Its been said, but again...

Close the end game chat, turn of platform messages or make your profile private.

Yeah after several years playing this on and off I can say that there is a disproportionate amount of hate from survivors than killers typically. Its definitely greater than the 4 to 1 ratio would account for.

Even when playing survivor you get killers who whine they didn't have fun or felt outmatched but you rarely get abuse, or at least they are rarely initiating the abuse its usually my fellow survivor players who are engaging in it or at least initiating it.

I'm not trying to make an us vs them post there is no us or them, play both sides otherwise you are missing half the game.

I just see a disproportionate amount of hate coming from angry survivors over angry killers post game.

Maybe its the mob mentality of survivor, you can all gang up on and vent your frustration at a solo opponent if there are other's who'll jump in with you and positively reinforce that bad behaviour. You notice how really crappy SWF streamers all feed on each others negative BS over their comms.

Often if someone is hurling abuse at me while playing survivor its another survivor who didn't like what I did in game, blaming everybody else for being trash and that's why we lost, usually they lay into the killer after that.

Most times you stomp a killer you get silence or GG and nothing more, but when survivors get stomped boy does the salt fly. You'd swear if you died in game you died in real life the way some of these people react. Its sad.
