About glyphs and killer courtesy

Hi, I'm a fairly new forum member and DBD player and this is like my 6th thread opened, I think.

Anyway I wanted to read your takes on something I have observed as a 90% killer main. Before anything else I want to clarify that I realize that courtesy and good manners are entirely optional on a competitive pvp game, that no one is entitled to anything regardless of their own behavior and that I play the way I do because such is my personality and I don't expect anything because of it.

So, when I was introduced to the glyphs mechanic (as killer) I didn't give it much thought. However, as I started to delve into survivor gameplay there were several instances where killers would let me finish my glyphs before hitting me and I remember one in particular who dropped chase entirely and let me take my white glyph to basement and I liked that very much. Next time I ran into him I beelined to the nearest hook and let him hook me once.

I found these interactions attractive so I incorporated them to my playstyle. Nowadays I will always respect survivors glyphs and I will also try and respect the distance in a chase. If I find someone doing white and I'm feeling silly I will accompany them to the basement and hit them afterwards, but if I would rather not waste time I will just drop chase and find someone else as soon as possible.

Anyway, as I continue to play survivor, mostly for tome challenges, I have noticed that about 6/10 killer will extend this courtesy, however, as a killer I have yet to see a survivor do the same. I mean, purple glyphs I get, they can't see them, but red and green, they can, so why are no survivors extending this courtesy? as a survivor, do you wait for the killer to finish his glyphs?

Hopefully this will be an interesting topic to discuss, politely I expect.

As a rule of thumb, I'll let a survivor take a glyph if I'm pretty sure they aren't running Dead Hard (these are also the survivors I'll give hatch). If you subject me to the awful gameplay of that perk, I won't spare any courtesy at all.

Obviously if survivors burned a map offering I'm just tunnelling and camping every hook and it goes without saying noone is getting a free glyph.

I've never seen a survivor respect a killer glyph, but it would feel... really weird to. If you've been memeing around anyway then sure, but I don't think it's ever crossed my mind to just stop at a killer's glyph.

I don't see why not. Unless it's a white glyph, it's only going to take 5 seconds of my time tops, and I'll get a free hit for my troubles. Might as well be friendly about it. I've had many killers do the same for me, so I'll gladly pay it forward so long as that survivor wasn't a dick earlier in the match.

Going for a white glyph mid-chase is either not knowing your glyph types or asking the killer to let you go, though, so unless you're the last survivor or the game's in the bag, that one's no bueno. If I catch someone on their way to the basement and I can tell they have the mirror, I'll be more merciful about it.

It's much rarer that survivors will stop for the killer (I will if they've been spreading their hooks and I'm not almost dead - if they camped and tunneled early on or I'm on death hook, I'm out of there.) But I don't see killers stop for glyphs very often, either. Part of playing killer is knowing when to prioritize the chase over distractions - to me, spotting a glyph mid-chase is like a survivor predropping a pallet and then moving to the next loop. I could stop and get it out of the way, but I don't need it done to catch this survivor and I know I'd be giving them a few seconds' distance for it. It's usually better to get the down and then come back to it.

I don't know. Maybe that's a double standard, but I generally feel that it's easier to hunt for glyphs as killer because you spend more time moving around the map, and win or lose, there's always a point in the match you can go back for the glyph (either once you've almost won and some free gen time doesn't matter anymore, or while the survivors are tbagging at the gates.) I usually end up finding my glyphs when I'm looking for survivors.
