Crossplay has only hurt this game.
As someone who plays on both PC and console, and watches a lot of streamers, I can confidently say that crossplay has done significantly more harm than good.
No matter what platform you're on, you aren't able to chat with a significant amount of players. You also aren't able to check profiles, or communicate in any way. It removed that tight-knit community aspect, and alienates a lot of people from one another. I so often see PC players go "oh, it's a console player, that explains it" or a console player go "aw damn it's a PC player"
PC players are given an unfair advantage over console players, which is exagerrated even more with killers that require mechanical skill such as Nurse, Blight, or Huntress. Not only do they have to deal with using a controller which is objectively less accurate, but they have to deal with lower fps and darker maps. And if you're playing on Switch, well you're just screwed. 20FPS average and pathetic joycons.
And all these cons for what, faster queue times? I can count on one hand how many times I've seen people SWFing cross-platform, and communication is an issue anyway. It just feels like the cons significantly outweigh the pros, especially on last-gen consoles or switch.

You can turn off crossplay on PC, i think you can also do so on consoles as well! It's somewhere in the settings.
The queue times are definitely improved with crossplay on, and i think you get a good balance of skill that way as well. I do understand the frustration with being on console and going against players who can use more accurate aiming or different techniques, because I used to play on console only.
There definitely is a lot of misconceptions about how both console/pc operates, and there's definitely some judgement and toxicity from both sides, but I think the devs did a pretty OK job making most matchups fair with crossplay.
i wish you luck! oh and i guess before i forget, i crossplay SWF with my family, who all use Xbox while I use PC! It's more common than you might think :)

You can turn it off, but next to nobody plays with it off. Queue times end up 10+ minutes, atleast on console. Maybe it's due to people not knowing you can turn it off, or due to people wanting faster queues. Either way, not viable.

I've put more time into PC at about 1300 hours, and about 600 on console. I've got a good understanding of the strengths / weaknesses of each side, and I can definitely say PC players have it much easier. M&KB, filters, graphics settings, fps, and the versatility of PC gaming as a whole.

Queue times were perfectly fine back in ~2018 when crossplay wasn't a thing. The overall player count would be lower for each platform, but the ratio of killers and survivors was good and there were enough for the matchmaking to not be affected. And we've seen that MMR doesn't work even closely to as intended, even with crossplay on and ideal circumstances. It isn't really an excuse.
Though I will admit it's handy for people wanting to SWF with friends. I suppose I only play killer and solo Q so I haven't ever put much thought into it. Thanks for responding.

of course! DbD leaves a lot to be desired in a lot of areas, so i sympathize with players who are unhappy with something. It could definitely be better for crossplay-off players than how it is now, so I hope the devs look into it

Crossplay is something really great, I'm so sad it isn't a thing on monster hunter world despite they promised they'd do it.
Filters are nowhere near mandatory (I use them only to remove the blur from AA).
I think you're blaming the wrong thing: people have been asking for keyboard and mouse support on console for ages and there's still nothing :/

Yeah I turned crossplay off. I’m not blaming console players per se, but I don’t want to deal with it.

PC/Steam also with cross off. It's so much more sweatier but the quality in team mates have improved a lot.

Majority of PlayStation players almost never ready-up.
It’s like some right of passage, or sth. They’ll wait until the timer reaches 15 to press triangle, or just be auto readied at 5 seconds.
Crossplay on is a reward, in that sense. Having XBox and PC players that immediately upon reaching lobby actually ready-up to play feels amazing! And these beautifully eager players seem to motivate the other “I’ll only ready up if someone else readies-up” kinda players to ready the f up!
Nearly every lobby on PS w/o crossplay is a freakn slog, smh.

I remember there being a bug on console where sometimes the last person quite literally could not ready up for whatever reason. No idea if that is still a thing or not as i haven't played on console for a very long time.

This game should have never released on consoles if bhvr had no intention of optimizing it.

All of these are issues with the game, not with crossplay specifically.
removing it isn't worth waiting 20 years for a match imo.
