Fix yo game fam

you want to know why? it's a little secret from me to you :-) It starts with an S and ends with M, can you guess it? :-)

Answer: SBMM

All my friends quit because of it and so do I. Tried so hard to like this game but there is nothing more to like. Only thing that makes me happy in this game now are the people that still say the game is survivor/killer sided.

Take care dying game🤙

I started saying dying game for the first time when I wrote it in this post so no 🤙

But hey maybe I'm wrong, I mean the chart shows that it went from 100 000 to 44 000 and it's still going down but that means it's good right?

maybe they are getting ready for DBD2

No worries bro, good to see that it's not only me that noticed it:D maybe they'll do something about it then😐️

Only one way to get people to stop posting things like this and that's to fix it no?🤙

I give it 10 months and the game is dead unless they do something🤙

Do you really think people that are on console haven't quit either? numbers going down is always a bad sign, doesn't matter how big it is🤙

I really hope that the anniversary is successful. Mainly so that we don’t have to see these threads again

And Epic. I've seen so many that switched over to that platform from Steam.

I dunno. I don't really pay attention to the numbers nor do I care if this game do well or not.

I am not really emotionally invested in dbd's downfall or success like some are.

This game at the end of the year is dead if they don't remove sbmm asap

    I'd be happy to.

Okay so for literally the first 3 years of it's existence DBD had many ups and downs and struggled to stay above 20k average players, it took a massive license like stranger things to push it over just over that hump.

DBD survived on 3 years on a fluctuating over under average of 20k so keep that in mind as we keep going. So DBD is at a very stable 23k average for about 6 months from September 2019 to February 2020 and that seems to be it's ceiling.

BOOM! 32k in March BOOM! 40k in June. A game that hadn't grown it's playerbase by 10k in nearly 4 years grew by 17k in just 4 months. The double hit of a global pandemic and obtaining Silent Hill back to back artificially inflated the numbers of this game to insane levels.

Then add RE the next year on top when we're still not fully out of the pandemic and forget it DBD starts hitting the top of the steam charts. But that was never a real number, as we come back from a pandemic and the high of big licenses wears off we come back to DBD's true numbers.

My guess is we still have more to fall and accounting for growth it normally should have gotten we'll probably settle around 26 or 27k. DBD isn't dying it's just not as big as a lot of people who recently came in thought it was. This isn't slight against it it does very well as a niche horror game and I'm sure it will in the future for at least the next couple years.

First of all I only play surviror so you got that wrong

second there are more people leaving the game now because of it than ever from grade-based

and lastly you didn't have anything to back up "Posting a steam player count chart instantly shows how ignorant you are lol." so please give it another shot will you🤙

Of course it's not only because of sbmm but you support it yourself when you are complaining about many posts being made about it. Doesn't that affect you at all? there is a reason there are so many post about it where people say they hate it.🤙

So this has nothing to do with what I just wrote but okay.

As someone who remembers countless games of learning killer years ago and being grey and yellow rank and going against game after game of pure red rank teams or red/purple teams I find complaints about sbmm hilariously stupid. You can complain about how sbmm was implemented cuz I would agree it could have been and should be implemented much better (it turns out DBD isn't anything like hockey) but I see it's existence overall as a good thing.

Want to know how the game has been for me the last 200 matches solo queing?

I've gotten against killers on my lvl but my survivors either have 40 hours on the game or they hide in lockers and the corners of the map 60% of the game. I think I've died on first hook more these last 200 matches than I've ever done before them (I have 1400 hours).

This never happened before sbmm so if you can explain that to me then I would massage your feet

Do some folks just sit and watch these charts religiously? I feel like I'm seeing this posted constantly on here

I'm not saying they should go back to the old thing but they should fix what they have now. and it did in fact have something to with what you said.😒

It's clearly not a good thing when so many are complaining about it, I mean if you are bored of people talking about it on the forums then go on youtube :D there are even more people that talk about it there and how much they hate it.

The thing that gets me the most and probably all the others that hate it aswell is that they aren't doing anything about it.

Where it's when survivors mmr is based on the team it's horrible. Why would it be teambased when you are solo queing?

We know 7 things from the chart:

1.) These are concurrent players, an aggregate of traffic. It is not total players - but how many are playing at any given time. It is not a sum total, but it is a massive sign of new player convergence and retention as well as a basic litmus for community health. (You probably already knew this, I digress)

2.) The Pandemic locked people inside and encouraged them to play games more frequently. In March 2020 the numbers began to rise and the alpha began to decline in Summer 2021, as evidence by how rapid the decline was in September.

3.) Summer season and Anniversary events are massive community builders and the hottest point of the year for DBD.

4.) Whenever a popular IP is licensed, player convergence / retention goes up. Resident Evil was, by far, one of the most popular DLCs in the game's history.

5.) The controversial and botched launch of MMR was the first of a series of blunders that plagued the latter quarters of fiscal 2021 and first quarter 2022 which showed a massive bleed in player retention as well as engagement, likely leading to sub-par convergence outside of whales. Boon totems, Artist, Ringu - all served as bad press which dealt a serious blow to the community's faith in BHVR.

6.) 2022 has seen the most aggressive retention efforts from the devs with random blood-hunts, login rewards, constant mini-sales, and much more. We have seen that these do not reverse the falling playerbase, but service - at the very least - to slow things down and retain core members. It is likely that these incentives also increase convergence.

7.) The latest changes to 2 of the lowerst tier killers mixed with the new Pain-Resonance/Dead-Man's-Switch/Pop-Goes-The-Weasel meta has made Killer much stronger, which has seized the decline. Bugfixes and content updates are doing more to turn the tides than blood-hunts ever could.

When we put all of these things together:

At the end of summer 2021 - The Pandemic ended, Resident Evil fans had their fill, there was no massive IP crossover to maintain the momentum, and the devs injected a lot of anti-fun into the game over the next 6 months. Boons and MMR to name a couple.

At second quarter 2022 - Content patches are coming out in the midst of aggressive and ceaseless sales and login rewards.

In the next couple of months, summer will return with the annual Anniversary spike - so we will likely see those numbers begin to climb (Even if it's for just a little while)

While I absolutely agree that the developers have really fumbled the ball and have lost half of their traffic - they're to blame for the Boon totems and the MMR choking out the new players. I'm none too surprised now that the Pandemic is officially over and winter has rolled past that things - hopefully - will stop from freefalling into the Deathgarden.

Imagine they had 100k players to sell DLC Cosmetics, Survivors, Killers, and Rifts to.

Now they don't, and that means They're geniuses @ BHVR! 8D

The pandemic was flu 2.0 stop it.

You take this rational thinking crap out to the street it’s got no place in these forums.

but yeah basically this. Any comparison between lockdown numbers and post lockdown numbers will be downward trending.

That said it’ll be interesting to see if it keeps downward trending into next year.

It’s not a sky is falling dooms day but comp gamers are often a fickle bunch who are easily lead, low attention span kinda dullards and we know even the rumour of games dying can start the bleed that eventually makes it a reality.

I am also not a big fan of SBMM and current game state making me play a lot less than I used to.

SBMM in a game like Dbd have no sense. This is the reason cause everyone take the sweatiest builds in the match. No SBMM? No need to use unfun builds to win.
