To those who say "looping should be removed"...

Every now and then I see someone on the forums say something along the lines of "Looping should be removed" (sometimes in those exact words) I have 2 questions:

  1. How? Looping is literally just the player's knowledge of how many times they can run around a certain obstacle based on the killer's speed + power before they get murdered. Unless you want levels to be a giant sandbox with no obstacles to run around, looping will always exist.
  2. Why? Why should looping be removed. It's the only effective strategy survivors have to get their objective done. If a team doesn't have someone who is good at looping, then maybe the first person in chase can hold W and throw pallets for 2 or 3 gens tops (if they're lucky) but after that, everyone is getting steamrolled because there's no more pallets. And certain killers eat through pallets or ignore pallets so that's a dumb strat in many cases.

So someone please explain this mindset where some people are so against looping that they think it's somehow toxic or bad for the game

I haven't seen this sentiment in a long while tbh. If anybody thinks looping should be removed, they just want to play a power fantasy game where their opponents have to hide from them. That may have been the original intention of the game, but it's direction changed quickly. At this point, looping has existed far longer than the original hide and seek nature of the game.

I think loops that are too strong are bad, just like I think Killers with perks or powers that are too strong are bad. But looping in general is fine. If it didn't exist, Survivor would be infinitely more boring.

The only people who say that are either new to the game and very tilted, or the killer martyr-complex types who've likely never touched survivor once. They're not worth attempting to understand.

You can argue that loops should be weakened, but wanting to remove the concept of looping is wanting survivors to roll over and die.

I don't think looping should be removed, but it's not the only effectige strategy Survivors have to get Generators done, there's also the ShiftW strat, which is even better than looping most of the time

That's fair, but Shift+W is also infinitely more boring. Both to do and play against.

I mean, i can't blame Survivors, but still.

Probably because of the time constraint put on killer. Loops can buy what can seem like "too much" time for survivors that that killer feels like the match was unfair and unfun.

I don't think many people say that. I don't know why anyone would want it removed if hiding and holding W are the other options

I dont mind looping but at least give me a chance to hit you on that loop

Looping is fine and is the most fun aspect of the game, so I would never advocate for its removal. However, there are way too many maps on which you could pretty much run an M1 killer until all the gens are completed and the exit gates are opened even if the Killer never committed a single mistake in the entire chase and that's just not a very engaging design.

Removing looping is removing the only good gampley aspect of dbd, who could say that?

People don't realize in order to do that the game would need a full blown rework lol
