Scratchmarks???
I've been playing DBD recently and have been noticing that survivors scratchmarks have been sometimes disappearing. I don't know why it's doing that sometimes I just think they're hacking, but it's been going on in too many games for everyone to be hacking
Does anyone know what it might be??

I would need to see a clip at least. It's hard to tell just from this...

Sorry there is no way I can get a clip, I don't even know how to do that lol iv just noticed it pretty recently they will start running with no scratchmarks then they start way later

Yeah scratch marks have been bugged forever but it helps survivors so the devs don't care. If DS was bugged again it'd be hot fixed immediately

Yay and unfortunately that's just it is now, these devs keep giving all this to the survivors and only make killers jobs harder

There are plenty of perks that cause this to happen, do you have a endgame screenshot to view their perks? They probably weren't hacking to be honest, most hackers even the subtle ones would use something more than that to throw you off.

It seems like its something to do with however they coded ground/foliage. Its almost like scratches are sinking into the enviroment at times, especially on reworked outdoor maps. No idea if its intentional or an oversight, but its definitely been happening more n more.

THey've made changes to scratchmarks back in 2019. They stopped giving a clear direction, they created more gaps between scratchmarks, they changed the visibility of scratchmarks, both in brightness, and in number and in the surfaces where they appear. They changed the timming for scratchmarks aswell, when they appear, when they disappear. Then there's also the AMAZINGLY TERRIBLE servers...

Well it's most of the survivors now not just a group in particular

Exactly that's what I thought as well

Wow I didn't know this thanks!!

Coming from someone who’s been playing since 2016, scratch marks are nothing like they once were. I don’t want to assume every time I get confused by them that the survivor is cheating, but how scratch marks sometimes function today is simply inexplicable. Perks aside.

Some survivors know how to make their scratch marks misleading so if it isn't a perk that is hiding the scratch marks in some way, it could be that. The game is also naturally dark unless you know how to brighten it a bit so some areas of maps make the scratch marks look nonexistent.

You can't hack on DBD bhvr told me so

Dude what???

make sure there isnt a boon totem nearby, if shadowstep is up, it will cause them to leave no marks

Oh ok thanks I didn't know that

Sadly there's a TON of perks that can make them disappear. Pay attention to survivor perks in end game screen.
Survivor lost his scratch marks after running into a certain area? It's probably Shadowstep
You're chasing them, they jumped through the window, zoomed away and left nothing to track them? Dance with me + Lithe
You got slapped by Head on/ds/pallet? Parental Guidance
You hit them and they literally poof, disappeared? Overcome + Lucky break
It's one of the combos that lately see more and more plays.
here's an example I found from killer's POV, it's hilarious as hell.
There's many other perks, but they're rarely used, I just said the ones you get any chance to see in regular games

Stealth nerf. Scratches use to be instant but they now have a delay. I don't know how it works, but if you don't have los on the survivor then there seems to be some kind of delay.
Like when you hit them and they run inside you. You look around and don't see any marks leading away, then you do another 360 scan and pop! there they go with the survivor waaaay off in the distance.
Like when you see a survivor sprint off with bbq and 2 seconds later when you get to where you last saw them there isn't a single scratch mark or even blood pool when they are injured and you know you should be able to see them.
Another stealth nerf they did was to fully shade gens in to nerf BBQ. After the update to the generator models, you could see the survivors aura through the middle part of the generator. Out of nowhere they just became a solid red blob.

As another person has already said, look for certain perk combos that get rid of scratch marks. When you have a match where a survivor seems to pull something weird, read all their perk descriptions to see if you can maybe explain what happened. It could potentially improve your gameplay so that in future games you won't get tricked by sneaky combos.
When I play survivor, I also sometimes try to trick the killer with my scratch marks if I'm far enough ahead and out of LOS. I'll start running up the stairs or run towards and area and then walk the opposite way so that you might follow the wrong path and lose me.

That's very useful, thanks, and probably what the survivors have been doing, so I'll pay attention more

How do people like you still believe the devs only care for one side of the game? Like how purposefully narrowminded and ignorant can you get?

Lol nope been playing for 3 years I just discovered this site though and want to ask my fellow DBD players questions I've had for a while it also help me talk to survivors because no one i know that's plays DBD is a survivor main I've gotten some great help by them so far

True that, I saw the scratchies leave the area one game. Thought "well they don't go any further so they must of ran back"
Nope. They ran that way but the scratchies just didn't exist.

Funny i run into a topic lile that
Played on ormond earlier and a survivor droped a pallet, didnt stun me or anything
I broke it the completely lost her before seeing her away like she runned from the pallet when she dropped it
Absolutely no scratch marks

As stated before - perks and foliage are likely culprits.
There are plenty of perks that remove scratch marks from play, and certain instances of telemetry or scenery can obscure the otherwise vibrant report of these marks.

Maybe there was shadow step active. That one will remove scratch marks in a quite big area. And you can easily overhear the boon sound in the heat of the match.
