Am I Panicking When I go Against Dredge?
It feels like Nightfall is incredibly overwhelming. Low field of view, lots of audio queues (like the faint screaming), new unfamiliar map, new creepy killer. After two matches against Dredge I couldn't play anymore, I think I was too stimulated or something. At the end of the second game I just sort of gave up.
I couldn't really see generators in nightfall, didn't know where the killer was, didn't know where anyone was. I couldn't really plan my next step I just sort of froze like, 'Uhm... okay? Where do I go. Okay I'm just here now. I should find a generator. I'm sure there's a couple on this map... Do I die now?' Then after nightfall ended I managed to get my head on straight enough to start working on a generator. Then I don't really remember what happened. I can't even remember if I died or escaped. I think I died?
I know a couple of times during a chase I thought that I was doing good but then he was like BAM right on top of me way faster than I expected and I would go down. Does he get a speed boost or something? I feel like I have a solid idea of how to loop or hold W on a 4.6 killer, but I don't think I misread him that badly that each time I got hit it was like 'Yo what where did he come from?' or like I thought I knew he was exactly in one spot and then he wasn't there at all, like I just blinked and he was somewhere else. I know he teleports to lockers but I didn't hear lockers and don't even think there were lockers in the area.
I'm starting to think that he just chased me normal style and maybe my head was a bit messed and those were all fair hits. But I'm also thinking maybe I don't really understand the whole breadth of his character and maybe something is happening to allow him to do weird stuff like that. I have about 800 hours on this game so I do have a fairly decent amount of experience and would consider myself good at this game typically.
I remember when I first went against the artist a few times I felt kind of similarly. Like the first week against the artist I was performing horribly because the sounds she made gave me chills and I would just get these brief moments where everything felt kind of floaty and my muscles would just relax on their own and I'd just let it happen. But I did get over that. Maybe I just need to get used to him.

Start match with Dredge, I think the first match. Teleport to a locker far away, get a survivor that was opening that locker.
I can´t but to assume the Survivor actually screamed.

Well it's a new mechanic, I think it's normal. I played just one match against the Dredge and Nightfall confused the ######### out of me, but honestly I still had fun.

There's some stuff that messes with me
Dredge's walk cycle has one of his arms constantly being raised up and it makes me think he's using his power when he's not
also has very loud breathing that makes them seem a lot closer than they are

My experience was exactly like yours.
Everyone played the same way with the lockers, ambushing me. It's similar to Sadako but he is way better.
If this is going to be his playstyle, always look behind you and pay attention to the lockers around.
1 -
Lock lockers before you sit on gen and watch your back. You will be okey.
When you susp he will teleport to lockeri just shift w to different area.
3 -
Fast forward 6 months no one is scared of Dredge or Nightfall anymore its just new
6 -
Doctor's Madness effects or Hag's teleport were also overwhelming when you first play against them. It'll fade.

Nightfall sounds amazing I can’t wait to face it.
I didn’t participate in this round of PTB, so I’m going in blind. Haven’t watched any vids either.
With the posts people are making about being creeped out and triggered by it, it must be good.
Please tell me that there is something genuinely scary and unnerving about it. This game needs some serious horror injected into it lately.

It's very dark on Switch, I can't really do anything during Nightfall. Feel a bit useless if anything that whole minute lol

Yesterday was my first time playing against it and for the first time in a long time I felt like I was actually playing a horror game. It was very exciting!

or like I thought I knew he was exactly in one spot and then he wasn't there at all, like I just blinked and he was somewhere else
dredge can leave a husk behind called the remnant while charging his power it looks like his shadow form so he can be in one point of the loop and then boom he teleports to where that remnant is that's probably what you're confused about.

Dredge has an add on that shows you the aura of survivors who lock a locker, So if the Dredge player catches you locking one locker, and you're in the shack or an area with multiple lockers, they can teleport to one you haven't gotten to and grab you mid lock.
This happened to me in one of my games. I just teleported to a random locker and it happened to have a Mikaela inside it.
After the match in the chat she said that almost made her pee herself, and that her friend who was playing a Dwight that match said he told her "Maybe don't bring Flash Bang, you probably don't want to be getting inside lockers." but noooo she was all "Oh what are the chances he's going to be in this one particular random locker."

My only gripe is that the voices get to be a bit annoying after a while and they are so damn loud for some reason compared to all the other in-game sounds going on.
0 -
Loud for killer or survivor?
killer kinda need to be able to hear to effectively hunt, but sensory deprivation makes survivor exciting and scary.

Nightfall is made intentionally overwhelming, don't feel bad for panicking when it goes off
my best advice is to take a deep breath when you see the pre-nightfall audio que and tell yourself, "you're going to be fine", it helps a ton

First time it happened, I straight panicked too. I couldn't see anything and just waited it out since I had a general idea of where the killer was. It going off mid-chase though? Yikes. When it went off on one map, I was in a dead zone, and trying to navigate to a tile I could use did not work out, lol. This killer does make you a lot more mindful of your surroundings, between that and lockers being everywhere now. A lot of people compare him to Sadoka and I see it, but they both have their own scary flares. Sadoka is more subtle but still manages to make me panic once in a while, like the stealth killers.

You will definitely need abit of time getting used to him. Pretty much any new killer that is actually strong.
Especially his nightfall. I don't find it hard to navigate in chases during it, at loops at least, but it can be hard to know where you should go next. It might be a bit overtuned in a sense that even the area you are supposed to see around you is a bit too dark.
When he charges his power, he also leaves a remnant behind, to which he can also instantly teleport back to. So if he leaves a remnant at a loop, you don't really want to loop him, at least not if it causes you to run into the remnant. He can just teleport back when you are very close to it and hit you.
This only works when he has line of sight on you, so loops that break line of sight are actually fairly good against him, because he moves slower while he holds his power, and at those loops he can't see whether you are actually running at his remnant, or if you are doubling back.

Loud on the survivor side. I get it being part of his whole schtick, just I'm using headphones with almost max game volume and the loudness & repetitiveness of the voices over the ~60 seconds started to get kinda irritating after the 4th dredge of the night. The voices are almost as loud as gen repair sounds, so by that time for me, the novelty wore off.

Many people complained about the daylight corn maps so bringing darkness back to the game was good idea. I like it. Being able to see the killer across map in the horizon is lame in a game where it used to be dark and foggy now its literally daylight in some maps. I wonder how some of you would manage with old moonlight offerings, Claudette used to not be seen. LOL
its *dead by* daylight, not Looping During Daylight

I get it, but it is pretty cool to see in game effects that drown out sensory perception as part of their power. I still like the idea because at least it has thematic application.
I'm no stranger to pulling the headphones off but mostly when the horns go off on midwich or some jerk is doing the egc noise spam play.
Some survivors are a bit screechy when they scream on hook but you can shut that down with a quick smack so It doesn't bother me unless I'm playing said survivor.
That said, noise is usually not as important for the survivor role because killer powers tend to have clear tells that let you know what's happening at all times so I generally have a volume lower (or even music/movie streaming) when playing survivor.

I think his Nightfall is yet another way to get survivors to passively stop playing. If you're on a gen during Nightfall and he comes to you, you're going down. At least I am. I can't see anything and I think that's the point? I really don't know, as a console player we don't matter so we don't get to play the PTB. So if you want to be safe, just hide and don't do gens, and give the killer more time. Nemesis has passive slow downs with the zombies, Pinhead has passive slowdowns with the box and chains, Sadako has passive slow downs with taking tapes, and now the Dredge has Nightfall where you can't see. It's just the new meta.

I didn't get to test it out on PTB this time, so I'm going in fresh. I'm INCREDIBLY excited to play both against and as Dredge. As a player of both sides equally, I'm super excited to experience Nightfall. It sounds like a great addition to the horror aspect of the game. It always thrills me to see Sadako teleporting and emerging out of nowhere because the unpredictability (as well as the curse growing) adds a much-needed horror aspect to the game. It sounds like Dredge will continue to be am amazing addition to what we need.
I'm sure Nightfall is very unnerving at the moment, but it is stuff like this that the game needs. We need some actually scary Killers that also have fair limitations.

I had a heyday playing as Dredge last night when survivors put up a Lerys offering. Used the addon where Darkness starts at the beginning of the trial.
I'm sure I got a few jump scares coming out of a locker while a survivor runs into you. Fun as hell. Great job BHVR.

I very much doubt you can grab anyone mid-lock. You lock extremely fast, even if you were in the locker right beside you defo don´t get out before the other guy has locked fully.
You must think that repairing a generator is 5 min of survivor time. 💯

hahaha in my case she wasn´t even inside, she was literally opening it and then... Alien comes out of it lmao.
0 -
Well for one, you can't lock a locker with the Dredge inside, trying to lock it will get you grabbed, and trying to lock it while he's on his way and just about there will also get you locked in and grabbed.
So yeah, if you're Gloaming and you see someone locking a locker you can target another nearby and chances are you'll get there in time to grab them.
I believe Dredge can be inside a locker for around 8 to 10 seconds before it starts to show that he's actually in there.

I know Nightfall was made darker after PTB feedback. And it's a fun mechanic, and a scary one. But really I can't see a GD THING when it comes down. If you need to mend from BT, forget about it. I was in nightfall on Dead Dawg which is a light map visually. Nightfall came, barely could see the Dredge. I threw a pallet, he literally just walked around it and killed me. I could not see where he was around the cactus and tents. Our team only survivored because the killer was new to playing Dredge. At the end of the game we powered the gates and nightfall happened again. Literally no one even went for a door. We couldn't see them. We all hid and waited for nightfall to end before we got out. Dredge on RPD is a NIGHTMARE. Starting the map on nightfall was horrible. And while I had to run up and down flights of stairs and down long corridors to unhook my team or pick them up from the ground, Dredge simply teleported to a locker I had no idea about. And because its a hallway with sharp turns by the time you realize what locker Dredge came out of you've run into him. Team died with 5 gens up. I haven't experienced that since 2018. Needless to say, I went into my settings trying to brighten my screen. Nightfall is like the Dead Dawg map when it was a first released and bugged to be dark for some viewers. Is Dredge OP? NO. Do I enjoy going against him? Also, no.

Imagine playing as killer against 4 swat SWF. Is it OP? Damn yeah. Do I have fun being blinded after chasing some guy looping a rock for 2 min? Nope.

I only have problems with Nightfall on maps I'm not familiar with or out on the edges of one when I'm looking for where the gates are if it happens after the generators are powered or during the EGC.
It's not really a problem on maps I'm familiar with, it just means I have to be slow and careful and listen for the telltale sound of Dredge's movement.
Nightfall rewards actually paying attention to map layout and knowing where you are in relation to the maps major buildings and layout even without being able to see into the distance.

I had a game exactly like that last night on RPD, I can't help but wonder if that was the game I was in but you're right about RPD being really powerful for dredge. Wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people experienced that.

Do you have a perk specifically to stop blinds? Two actually. Do I also have fun being camped at 5 gens and brought to basement with IG and Agi. No. But I don't DC I let my team do gens. Playstyle and game mechanics are two seperate things. One can be changed by the devs. But I'm not calling for change. I'm saying it's not fun for me.

I was playing as Jane with the red/gold top from the New Year event and red shorts. Couldn't work on gens because I had to spend so much time running across the map to unhook or pick up. He finally got us all by slugging two and popping out of a locker while I was rounding the corner down a corridor. I did find one thing that sorta helps out against him and it isn't on the chopping block for nerfs because it just got a buff.
Distortion. BBQ is just a powerful perk on him because it keeps him constantly onto a survivor after hooking because of his map traversal. Also his perk Darkness Revealed and at least one of his add on's reveal you quite reliably. Until Dredge use cools down it's part of my kit instead of an exhaustion perk. I've taken off all exhaustion perks to get used to not using them anymore.

Oh yeah that wasn't me. I don't remember there being a jane at all.

You can grab mid-lock, any interactions with a locker containing The Dredge will result in an instant grab
0 -
If you were traveling already there could be the coincidence sure.
But that has nothing to do with what I said.
