Don’t nerf nightfall’s obscurity.

I actually play on a console. Solo survivor most of the time. When nightfall happens I can’t really see #########. Am I mad? Not really. That’s what The Dredge’s power is supposed to do. If anything add a “lightburn” feature where aiming flashlights on The Dredge during Nightfall reduces the time of Nightfall.

It does become harder to see loops; HOWEVER, if it really bothers me I opt out a perk for Windows of Opportunity… So that the auras of vaults/pallets are revealed even in the dark. Based on the position of the vaults/pallets I can guess the tile layout, and still act accordingly. This is on console, mind you. Where it’s incredibly difficult to see anything. I’ve been seeing Dredges find ways to inflict Blindness as to hide where they hook people during Nightfall. It’s pretty neat to see some change.

If it’s power doesn’t make it harder to navigate then what would be the point of it’s overall power? I’m starting to think people secretly love the meta as is, and when something forces “mains” to opt meta perks for some utility they get mad, and cry about it. Then when whatever added a new element gets nerfed they go back to their meta in which they say is toxic or whatever. 😂

A lot of people have fussing about it. If enough people complain it’ll get ruined as everything else that was rather healthy to the game, or required you to actually try. Lol

I don't want a big nerf though. Just brighten it up ever so slightly. So that it still has the obscurity, but not to such a massive extent.

Here's the problem with nightfall, much like iron will. It is either extremely powerful or worthless. There is no in-between. If it only 'pseudo' made it dark it would be garbage, much like if iron will capped out at 90% it would be garbage because killers could still hear you in chase.

Dredge makes auras needed more now. There’s a **** add on where the trial begins with Nightfall, and you can’t see a thing. It’s actually pretty cool navigating the dark using aura powers. Makes it feel like that’s how to game should be played when the situation is at hand.

I heard there were once Moon Rituals in the game that affected the natural lighting. I hope the devs add those again, but that they greatly affect nighttime outdoor maps. Then if the map was a daytime map it gradually becomes a dusk with darker/cooler colors. An example being with max darkness we’d get a scary MacMillan Coal Tower, but only a nighttime version of Rotten Fields.

Adding elements like that would make the game way more immersive. Aura reading and Whispers is always a thing so that would counter things like Prestige Blendette.

Yeah. You do get stuck sometimes. At least the creature is an eye for an eye type. It makes it difficult to see for everyone even itself. 🤣

I mean have you cut all your lights off, and tried going down some stairs? You always turn the lights on first before ever doing that. As your next step might be your last heaven forbid.

That’s why I love Dredge. It’s power actually doing what it should. It’s not some gimmick. I was hoping flashlights had a greater impact though. Given the fact that the survivors power is finding a flashlight to navigate the dark. I was really hoping the new Flashlight Perk decreased Flashlight consumption, or gave you a Sport Flashlight.

I think it goes on just a touch too long. Maybe 45 seconds.

Yeah, Entity forbid a horror game has horror elements for once.

some survs take offense at being even mildly inconvenienced by the killer. then they try to downplay it by calling it "annoying." XD

this power is one of the best BHVR have made. stick to your guns!

Do i think nightfall is cool ? Absolutely

Do I think nightfall should reduce your vision ? Totally

Would I still like to be able to see enough to play the game ? Yes

Should I bring a perk just in case I go against the Dredge bc the game is hardly playable without it ? Definitely not

(Also you can make a post about how you like nightfall as it is without claiming people who disagree "secretly love the meta" or whatever, some people just like to see things)

I think it will need to be toned down a bit. Of course it's not as bad as some people are making it out to be, because it's still new. However I do fear it's a bit too much for newer survivors that aren't as experienced.

I can still loop fairly well during Nightfall, but actually getting to a new loop after having to leave the old loop can be more challenging. I think if they increase the visibility range just a bit, that won't go away, but it will make nightfall just a tad more manageable.

However, the change I definitely want to see is to make the area around a survivor that you are supposed to see, a bit brighter and more visible. I think they should get rid or at least decrease the blackness on the edges of your screen, right now your vision as survivor is narrowed down to the center of the screen, that's just too much in my opinion.

That's called a vignette and I agree. I hate vignette filters, especially used in games because it just makes it hard to see anything nearby. But the darkness distance, the Dredge not glowing anymore, and the dimming of the lights is good enough. They need to either remove the vignette or do what you said, which I'd prefer if possible. I think this would fix the issue with some maps just being too dark during nightfall where you can't see the gen in front of you even under lighting effects.

I can't understand why people are enjoying this mechanic 😂 how is basically being blind fun for anyone and not just extremely annoying.

Why do ppl like the nightfall ?

As far as I am concerned, it is simply because :

    - it brings a stressful and horrific dimension to the game

    - it changes the visual appreciation of the map (seriously, visually, you rediscover the maps, it's just great)

    - it is new, innovative and original

I can see where you're coming, it definitely does have a creepy vibe which is cool. I don't mind it at all on brighter maps like saloon or eyrie, but on dark maps it does feel like overkill. I wish it was more consistent.

On dark maps, you can't see any further or any closer than on light maps; you just have to adapt a little bit more, which makes it even more horrifying 😀

I feel the issue with nightfall is the monitor setup. I've noticed everyone with issue is primarily on console and with monitors it's easier to see as opposed to a television. I did test this between monitors and on my gaming monitors nightfall is honestly pretty easy to see what's going on but when I switch off to just a generic monitor used for broadcast it's significantly harder to see. I imagine this is the main issue and would admittedly hate to see a killer nerfed because of hardware issues. Basically just dedicated PC monitor versus generic tv displays. Admittedly would be interested to see everyone else's setup that's having issues with it.

Damn a killers power has the audacity to actually be scary and stressful in a horror game instead of allowing survivors being able to freely frolic across the map without worry. The audacity BHVR has.

Teasing aside - It makes DBD feel like a horror game where the killer actually has control over the game. In reality it's an 'okay' ability but it's an extremely unique ability compared to other killers right now so it's exciting to verse. Issue right now is people not wanting to adapt and DC'ing however I feel all my DC's with Dredge have been from console. So that's why I'm assuming on console hardware / display setups it's significantly harder to see than on PC. For PC I legit have no issues seeing within the boundary of the darkness. None of my friends on PC do either. I've yet to talk to someone on console though.

I'm on ps4 and I've done fine with the nightfall but my swf teammate who is also on ps4 gets pretty bad eye strain from it, to the point if he faces back to back Dredges or has a long match v one he needs to take a break.

There's a reason other games that have darkness allow you to adjust the brightness settings, it's not just to make it easier to see but for some people the screen being too dark causes eye strain. They should adjust it enough so that it doesn't cause eye strain from being too dark.
