BHVR, Please do not go through with showing Prestige lvl on End Game Score Screen!

So today bHVR released some work in progress on the Prestige System and changes to the end game screen aswell, they showed this: So their work in progress is to put a Prestige lvl Icon at the left end of score screen for each character, showing off what Prestige level you have gotten your character to, aswell as the character's name.

Now, I believe Icon flexing is just an outright bad practise for games, I'm an old school gamer, I rather want a more tangible reward for my gaming, I am not interested in pretty Icons unless they have a benefit. I am not a fan of bragging rights shown off to other players through icons. If these went through I would 1. ignore them, 2. wish I could not see them and 3. play the game. But that's like my opinion dude, then why is there a problem.?

Well. This change is bad for the game the same way as Grades were an issue with SBMM. You remember we had Rank there, then we had Grades there and we got them removed for a time because when matchmaking became addressed by the SBMM System. Because they clearly shape our opinion of, if we think a match has been fairly matched. Seeing an indication of enemy time investment.

This is a problem, that always comes up in posts about this game, you show an image of 4 Red Ranks vs 1 Brown Rank Killer. Grades did the same thing, 'Wow red grades? this matchmaking is so bad' and yes I know, we all know that matchmaking ISNT based on Rank/ Grade or soon Prestige lvl, but the point is all these systems are indicators of time spent, and that is why those particular complaints will stay with the game until bHVR removes such indicators.

People will say: "wow, Why am I getting matched with Prestige +10s this matchmaking is unfair" now matchmaking ofc needs to shaped up and fair, we have BHVRs promise they will do their best, but even I feel that ignorance is bliss and I have been with you since 2017. When you have difficulty seeing a difference, you pay more attention to the game and how fair/unfair they felt. I have seen 100s of complaints about this games matchmaking, showing an image with un-equal icons called 'bad matchmaking'. This is bad for the game, cause DBD's Matchmaking should be judged by the Matchmaking/ Skill of player (to succeed the goals), NOT an un-equal distribution of icons of perceived time investment.

This is becoming a block of text, I am sorry, but I really implore you bHVR you have a chance here to to change a bad tradition, to force people to judge your matchmaking system more honestly on what happens in the game, and not icons after the match. And isn't that what we all want? Good and Improved matchmaking based on the games.

You may say, unfair complaints about our game isn't an issue, people are gonna have dishonest assumption anyway. But my response would be its unhealthy to implement things that lead them astray, don't give them an excuse. The main complaint I see is in all these pictures is when there is an indication of unequal time investment, that indication IS the problem. Cause even though we know time spent is a poor indication of game skill, our brain/subconscious wont accept that, so we need to fizzle that excuse asap.

Here is my constructive suggestion for what you could put on the Post Game Score Screen instead.

  • Used your excellent adept icons instead of new prestige icons, which would also allow easy identification of name to character in game for most games that is.

    @TheMadCat I got confused while editing the Image, it should have been adept icon or better, the Trickster's face. I agree with your concern too, Im not a fan of the scorn or misjudgement that these icons cause to be tossed around at all.

    @Bloodshade While its certainly sad for the artists who designed these new icons, I believe they showed these as work in progress as things are still getting discussed, bHVR obviously wanted our opinions on it. This is the time to stand up and be heard. So we can make the game better as Gamers and Developers.

    Yes prestige level of your opponent will inevitably shape to some extent how fair you believed a match would be but is that really such a bad thing.

    Yeah sometimes people improve quickly and sometimes they improve slowly, but for the most part, as someone plays a game more and more they get better at it. With grades showing the issue was that it only showed this to a certain extent. It shows how much you've played hte game within a one month time peroid, but doesn't really show how experienced you are.

    However if you play against a blight that is prestige 72, well uh yeah, clearly they play a lot of blight which might help to validate or even allieviate some of your opinions of the match. ie. It can change, "blight is clearly broken" into "wow this guy plays a lot of blight, he must really understand the complexities of the rushing mechanic and use it to its fullest potential."

    On the flipside, if a killer is playing really badly and reach the end of the game and they're prestige 1 or 2, Well clearly they've only recently picked up the killer.

    The problem was that ranks were not a good indicator of anything meaningful, where as someones dedication to a particular character is actually meaningful because it denotes experience with that character;s mechanics or for survivors, general experience since most survivors stick to 1 or 2 characters.

    ONE MORE THING....

    I was just reminded by a good friend about our experiences with exclusives, like how the accounts with special skins were traded for crazy amounts of money, these special icons could be the new type of Trade if its something you can show off to others.

    Personally I don't like how it looks either. I'd rather they only add something in the pre game lobby.

    @CashelP14 pretty sure its gonna show up above Survivor's heads seen by other Survivors, like how the P3 Symbol is now.

    That part is fine, its only if it influences the opposing side pre or post trial really.

    Same, I'm not a big fan of how it looks. To show P3, it could be like when we invite people in a lobby: we can see the icon under their name. I think that should be enough to show off P3. (But Killers couldn't sadly, if they wanted to.)

    I think prestige should be shown. I like Hunt Showdown and how they show the prestige at the end of a match. I also like Rocket League an how they also have a similar thing. However in their game you can customize the icon and show the prestige or use some other icon.

    Yeah, you would not know the amount of Flak I get from Survivors, if I do badly, they say say I was boosted to me Rank or Grade.

    Thats why I personally would prefer some anonymity, I hope bHVR will support that.

    I don't like how it looks on the endgame screen. Just doesn't suit it imo. Also not a massive fan of the survivors name over the actual person's name.

    I fully agree also with what you said in relation to MMR. People will be asking "why am I facing a prestige 20 dwight when I'm only prestige 2 wraith?". It's too confusing for newer players.

    Personally would prefer something like what you shown except have a little number above their head saying their prestige.

    Just a little number above or below their name. Maybe have tally marks or something. I don't care about showing off my prestige together people, I only want the reward for being P3.

    I'm just praying this is a worth while reward.

    I totally disagree. Survivors already see each other's prestige level at the start of the match so why would it matter if the killer can also see it? A prestige level would NOT be an indicator of how skilled someone is and I don't get why people don't understand that.

    Yeah I'd rather they not show prestige.

    I can already see the "wow you got prestige x what a tryhard", "wow you're prestige x and you lost, you must really be bad", "Wow, you can see we're all low prestige and you couldn't go easy on us? toxic".

    Not to mention people not understanding prestige is not matchmaking.


    Just let it be a personal achievement.

    so, either show us the portraits of the actual survivor faces and killer face, AND/OR show an indication (in the form of colors, visuals or numerical) of our MMR rating. that's what most people want. why is it so hard?!?

    I absolutely agree. I prestiged many killers that I'm not good with and also kept leveling some of them because I wanted to try some specific perks on them. WIth this going through it'll probably be like "Oh, you got prestige X and still lost? gg ez noob killer". Also I have no interest in seeing everyone else's prestige for similar reasons. I would appreciate if BHVR at least added an option to hide prestige completely.

    It makes 0 sense to show Prestige, it just hurts as the author explained.

    Also for survivors the prestige level makes even less sense... E.g. you can have Prestige 10 Nea and a prestige 1 Meg. And overall Prestige level does not make sense, because you can level up the character with bloodpoints earned from a different character. Or spend bloodpoints earned by killer on a survivor, etc.

    I said it on another post that it wouldn't take long before people use prestige levels as reason matchmaking isn't working. Everytime a new DLC comes out the complaints it's not working will increase day 1 of new dlc when one side is playing new character(s) and is maybe prestige 1 facing old character(s) that are prestige 10+. On day one of grade reset people were saying matchmaking wasn't working after they'd been playing for hours and made it up to silver/gold grade and would get someone that was ash - doesn't matter if day before they were all red, that current grade obviously was what mattered. 🙄

    That end game screen they shared is just too cluttered with info, some of it repetitive. Just have the character pics where the grades used to be and give them pretty borders, those that P3 before the change get a extra pretty border no one else can get.

    yes, please! I don't know who told BHVR that we even wanted this. I don't want a beautiful icon for MY TIME. Every time I come back to the game, they make sure to **ck some other thing for me to remember why I stopped playing.

    Putting Prestige is just going to give players something else to be frustrated over.

    Putting a little border around the player's portrait to signify that they achieved prestige in the old ranking system would be more than enough 'bragging rights' - but its all but completely unnecessary, as you have pointed out.

    I talked about it a few days ago with a mate that I don't get how we get basically the similar thing back and all the reasons behind the grades removal from the post-match screen are suddenly gone?

    Seeing this pop back up and looking at that new tally screen of theirs... ugh. They shoved so much unnecessary information onto that screen, all to include a prestige icon that will only be detrimental to how players feel about matchmaking. Instead of writing out the characters' names, they should have the character portraits where the prestige number is. The survivor/killer icons are unnecessary clutter, other information already conveys who was a killer and who was a survivor in the match.

    Big number, text with character name, text with player name, redundant survivor/killer icon, all that clutter rather than using the character portraits many of us have been asking for for so long. All this mess, just to add something that will have the same effect on a player's perception of the match as showing grades. Why would you show any number next to a player that isn't tied to matchmaking? That only brings confusion.

    It's just so annoying how complicated they made this instead of going with the simple, elegant, MMR-misdirection-free solution. For crying out loud.

    Actually, I feel the opposite way to an excessive extent. Not only should Prestige level be visible in the post-game, but the Legacy P3 reward we got for this update should also be visible in the post-game screen. Currently, the reward serves no purpose.
