Overcharge vs Call of Brine math/trivia

Note: all this assumes Overcharge's growth will be linear from 100% to 400% and stay at 400% thereafter.

Overcharge's gen regression:

  • 100% the moment you kick the generator
  • 200% after 10 seconds
  • 300% after 20 seconds
  • 400% after 30 seconds and thereafter, having so far regressed 11.25 extra charges/18.75 total charges

Call of Brine is (I believe) 200% for one minute and 100% thereafter.

When you kick a generator, by default it will regress 2.5 charges over the first 10 seconds. With Overcharge, linearly increasing from 100% to 200% across that time, it will be 3.75 charges for an extra 1.25 charges. Between 10 and 20 seconds from kick, Overcharge will regress an extra 3.75 charges, for a total of 5 extra charges. Between 20 and 30 seconds, Overcharge will regress an extra 6.25 charges for a total regression of 11.25 extra charges.

Call of Brine increases the 2.5 charges per 10 seconds to 5, meaning it gives you 2.5 extra regression per 10 seconds. Since overcharge will have regressed 5 extra charges after 20 seconds, this means that overcharge and call of brine will have gotten equal value after 20 seconds. Before then, call of brine is stronger; afterwards, overcharge is stronger.

Trivia:

Call of Brine will get a total of 15 charges of value assuming the generator isn't repaired for 60 seconds and had more than 33 seconds of progress before you kicked it. Overcharge reaches 15 charges of value after 35 seconds, and 30 charges of value after 55 seconds. Therefore, after 55 seconds, Overcharge's value will be more than double that of Brine's (especially as Brine's detection expires at that point)

A 99.9% generator will lose all its progress in 101 seconds with Overcharge, 5 minutes with Call of Brine, and 6 minutes with no perks. (reminder that a generator is 90 charges now.)

If survivors fail the Overcharge skill check, regressing an additional 4.5 charges, Overcharge always gets more value that Brine.

Brine's main utility will be guaranteed detection for survivors repairing the generator, as most survivors will be more likely to hit good skill checks than miss the Overcharge skill checks. For M1 killers that have a perk slot to spare, Overcharge + Dragon's Grip will always be stronger, especially given the Calm Spirit nerf.

Overcharge meta.
