Noob question : Why to play Oni?
Hillbilly exists, he has insta down available at all times. Billy can even travel fast using his chainsaw (just like Oni). So why play Oni? When getting Oni's insta down ready takes times. Is it easier to control Oni when he's in his insta down ability? I just bought the Oni dlc and i'm thinking if he's worth it.

There's a lot of loops that Billy struggles to use his chainsaw in. Oni has a far greater turning rate overall and doesn't bump on objects. His power, while not always avaliable, is better than the Chainsaw in terms of strength.

I see, gotta try him then. See how his power controls.

Billy has a overheat mechanics that even with addons make his chainsaw not always available. His turn rate is abismal compared to Oni’s. Oni’s hitbox is also more forgiving than Billy’s
Not to mention that against Oni u cannot stay injured for long, so Survs will have to heal more often, therefore waste more time. That means more pressure on them.

Because he's super fun!
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
BONK

Never thought about the having to heal aspect, thanks.

I have more fun playing Oni, but getting a chainsaw down is way more satisfying.

Play oni, equip both speed addons and go zoom

i love his speed build on Lery's, which people generally consider one of his worse maps. Throw on some aura reading +Tinkerer and you will get legit jumpscares from survivors haha

Put plaything on him for the maximum spook

never considered that one before tbh, good idea

Another benifit of Oni is that his skills transfer over to a lot of other killers.
When you play Oni, you get better at being an m1 killer, better at Mind games, and better at understanding the hit boxes of each map and how to use them to your advantage.
He is also good at figuring out how to slug correctly and can use some really fun perks to great effect.
He is one of my favorite killers because he feels powerful but not completely unfair like Nurse. When you do well as Oni, it is not because he is broken, it is because you predicted exactly what that survivor was going to do and used it to crush them. After all,

Billy is not good at all anymore after his nerfs. Only thing that Billy is stronger than Oni is Billy can use his power starting of the match.

billy sucks badly. he's also unfun to play now. they just destroyed this killer evidenced that nobody plays this killer anymore. Oni is more fun to play, better to use his power, easier, more control, better results. at this point they could juse delete billy if they dont want to change him. i used to love him back in the days

Oni has to work for his power, but it's easier to use, Oni can slide off of walls and surfaces to get hits that Billy otherwise cant deal with (or otherwise would struggle with). Billy has to work for his power to work. Oni has to work to get his power in general.

Because Oni go rawr!

Also, with Dead Man Switch everyone will be leaving their gens to The Entitiy once they hear you roar and even get so much as a whiff of your terror radius.

Oni most definitely doesn’t suck 😂 you’re absolutely trippin. Oni has one of the most insane snowball capacities, if not the strongest in the game.

Simplest Answer: Because you want to. For some it could really be as simple as that.
To answer your specific questions, yes Oni is easier to control when charging vs Hillbilly by virtue of the fact that running into something doesn't end your charge then and there. You also retain your insta-down even if you're not charging, though I think getting the charge attacks is considered preferable. Speaking from my own (admittedly low) experience with Oni the way his one-shots out of charge block your vision during the wind up makes them harder to land.

Yeah

Oni is way easier to control and get hits with during Demon Dash than Hillbilly. He doesn’t go into tantrums when he touches an object, has better steering, and even if he’s not dashing his normal lunge in Demon form still does instant downs. Also on top of that he doesn’t have that really loud chainsaw noise in your ear during Demon form, and the blood orbs can even be used to help track injured survivors.
I’m not that great with either Oni or Hillbilly honestly since I don’t play either of them that often, but Oni is definitely more user friendly.

Eh, I have a WAY easier time playing Billy to be honest. But I prefer Oni because of his weapon swipe animation and the Billy lore I did read was cringe, more cringe than Oni, somehow.

Oni has smoother controls, plus you can slide off objects. His power can literally turn a losing game into a game where you’ve already won in seconds. I just hooked my first survivor and 2 gens popped. Basically a losing game, until I got my power and downed the 3 other survivors in a minute or less.
Hes just really good at what he does, he has good mobility and downing power compared to hillbilly. Survivors are always gonna drop orbs when injured even in the middle of healing so you shouldn’t worry to much about not having your power.

One notable thing is that Oni stays in his dash once he collides with an obstacle. Once you’re good enough, you can drift along walls and turn usually very safe tiles into deathtraps using your dash.

He's Hillbilly with a fuel mechanic

I'm not sure if anyone's said this but another great thing about Oni is his power grants free tracking without having to use an addon or perk. It also counters the newly buffed Lucky Break, Lightweight and Distortion when the survivor is injured cause guess what? I see your blood orbs!!

It's not weeeeee get it right it's ONI SMASH!

Oni can run into things while dashing and even use this to his advantage to mind game survivors. You can make it look like you are going around shack after a survivor and turn at the last second run into shack for a few seconds and slide through the door catching the survivor inside who thinks you are following them around the shack for example. With Infectious Fright (or if you just know where they are) you can chain multiple downs on even all four survivors sometimes with one charge.
You can also M1 while walking and it is still an instant down on smaller loops. You don't have to be dashing.
