Potential quirk of new prestige system. Confirmation?

Based on how the new prestige system will unlock perk tiers, and how it's been described by a couple different devs, we know the following:

  1. Prestiging a character at level 50 will unlock their perks as teachables (for all characters in that role) instead of learning them at levels 30/35/40.
  2. Repeated prestiging unlocks successive perk tiers as teachables, 'upgrading' the versions of those perks on other characters.
  3. Purchasing perks from the Shrine of Secrets will have the same effect as successive prestiging of said character.
  4. Teachables unlocked prior to the switch to the new system, will be honoured. Meaning if you unlock a teachable now at level 30/35/40 or via the Shrine of Secrets, it will be available on all characters in that role when the new system goes live.
  5. Prestige levels will be automatically allocated based on the number of 'perk tier's unlocked on a character, meaning if you've sunk more than 50 bloodweb levels worth of BP into a character, they will already be Prestige 1 or higher.

From this we can extrapolate that teachable perks will act as discrete but non-unique 'upgrades' that are cumulative in their effect, wheresoever they are obtained. Each instance of 'unlocking a teachable', whether that is from the bloodweb, from prestiging, or from the Shrine of Secrets, will essentially acts as a '+1' to that perk's tier.

Which begs the question...

If you have already unlocked the teachables for a character at level 30/35/40 (which will be honoured when the new system goes live) but that character has not yet reached level 50 (and so not eligible for automatic prestige), then all other characters should have their perks at tier 1. Then, if you level them up 10 more bloodwebs to level 50 and prestige them yourself, that should unlock tier 2 perks for all other characters.

If that is correct, then that means for those characters who are in the right place at the right time (between bloodweb levels 41-49) when the news system goes lives, have the unique advantage of being able to unlock 2 tiers of teachable perks, with only 50 levels of investment in the bloodweb. Essentially, this saves you 50 levels of BP. While all other characters will only have 1 tier unlocked at the first prestige and require a 2nd prestige for tier 2, those characters will have 2 tiers at the first prestige.

It's essentially a quirk created by the process of moving an unlock qualifier up in level. With teachables basically moving up from 30/35/40 to 50, anyone in between the old and the new unlock level gets the opportunity to hit that qualifier twice.

Two things; I hope this is a correct interpretation of the system changes, and I hope there's no plans to mitigate it or deny players from using this advantage to save BP.

For one, there's no real harm in allowing a small window of live players this bonus, for the luck of just being in the right place at the right time, and also, I'm sure any workarounds to prevent it will introduce their own slew of additional bugs to deal with.

And I would love for this 'quirk' to be confirmed, either by a dev on here, or in the next livestream or dev report about the new prestige system.

There's a parallel here with something similar from another game. Final Fantasy XIV. In that, there used to be a level 35 quest that awarded you with a free Fantasia, an item only obtainable via the real money cash shop which allows you to change your characters base appearance, and the only free instance of that item in the entire game. At one point, they changed where this one free Fantasia was obtained, and moved it to a level 50 quest instead. The result of this was that any players who had completed the level 35 quest and already claimed their free Fantasia, but had not yet reached level 50 at the time of the change, could then complete the level 50 quest and obtain a second free Fantasia. The devs allowed it, despite it being a 'real money' product.

Tier 2 perks are tied to prestige 2 so it won't change to prestige 1 as listed above. You just get nothing at prestige 1 in that instance

That doesn't seem to be true. That 'tier 2 perks are uniquely tied to prestige 2'. But that Prestiging (any number) acts as upgrading the teachable perks +1.

This is apparent as buying the perk on the Shrine of Secrets will also upgrade the perk.

E.g. You P1, unlock Tier 1 teachables perks, then you purchase the perk from SoS and get tier 2 on all characters, then you P2... and get tier 3 on all characters.

Otherwise, there is absolutely no point in purchasing perks from the SoS.

I mean, there is, you could pay 2000 iri shards to unlock/upgrade a perk you really want instantly for all characters(worth 150k BP), or spend 2 million BP to get all 3 perks upgraded.

So there is a point in purchasing perks from the SoS, its basically a better version of purchasing perks from the SoS now. The only reason you would buy perks from the SoS is to not level a character 35 levels to unlock that perk. OR not having to purchase an entire character just to have access to their perks.

My problem with this, however, is that if you have all teachables through the SoS, its never gonna be worth to prestige the majority of survivors, or even purchase them. Like, lets say I have Kate's perks through the shrine all to t3. Its not gonna be worth putting the BP in her character to prestige. You're not gonna get any bonusses for 3 entire prestiges, and you're not gonna get the full bloody cosmetics untill prestige 6. That's roughly 12 million BP, that I could have spend on my main character instead to keep the item, addon and offering inventory filled.

So I personally hope that they will add a benefit to p7,p8 and p9 that basically give the character a buff to their personal 3 perks, and only when used on that character, making it easier to adept(its not adding much complexity to the base game for new players either, SBMM shouldnt put you up with people who have p9 characters untill you've learned enough to know that buffed adept exists), while also making it more interesting to play certain characters for their character specific perks.

I don't think they've ever said they'll honor teachables in the way you're describing. I believe they just said anything you already unlocked, you won't lose. So say you unlocked Prove Thyself from Dwight through the teachables, it won't just auto put Prove Thyself on everyone (if not prestiged), but it won't take Prove Thyself away from anyone who already has it.

There is no point to purchasing perks from SoS though. Just as the current system is, the future Shrine of Secrets will be a method to unlock perks from characters you don't own. Buying SoS before leveling a character, knowing that you will level the character, is just being wasteful.

What peanits was talking about there is, basically, if you have a character at p40 theyre going to count that as "prestiged" as far as the perks go. If you then level that character to 50, itll reset your web, but you wont get another level added to perks. Or theyre just going to reset any lvl 40 character as first prestige....that part isnt entirely clear. However, you wont be able to double dip on perk levels that way.

As for the shrine, you can unlock higher tiers, but if you then level a character to the corresponding tier it stays at that prestige level. ie; if my nurse is p1 but i unlock nurses calling at p2, when i get nurse to p2 the perk stays at the same level, but now all characters get t2 version.

Unlocking a t2 perk in the shrine will make it so that the t2 perk can show up in the bloodwebs of any character without finding the t1 version first.

I think Mandy or somebody had explained this much better somewhere, but i dont remember what thread it was on.

That's the thing, that's not clear at all.

Nobody has said at any point that P1 won't also unlock tiers if you already have the teachables from level 40. As I state in the first post, it seems as though the act of prestiging does work as a generic "level up" for any teachable perks.

Indeed it seems that prestiging and SoS are interchangeable. I.e. any combination of three between either system will get you your 3 tiers of the teachable perk.

    P3

    P1 and 2 SoS

    P2 and 1 SoS

    Or all 3 from SoS

It wont work the way you think tho.

SoS unlocks a perk at a given tier so that it can show up on the bloodweb.

Prestige unlocks a perk at a given tier on all characters.

Theyre two seperate systems that dont act as blanket upgrade tokens. That would be an absolute nightmare to code. The way its going to work is that perk tiers will be determined by a) prestige level, given to all characters or b) tier unlocked by SoS as rng chance on webs. Its an either/or scenario.

Itd be crazy awesome if it worked out the way youre thinking, but theres no way thatll be the case. Dont get your hopes up.

Think of it this way. If you unlock a level 30 teachable from the shrine, do you see it in the character's bloodweb at level 30?

You simply unlock it sooner that you would of normally. Reaching the required level does not mean you reached the requirement for the next.

Take note if you reach P3-1 prior to the update. You won't have the perk tiers to boost you to P6. That means P4, P5, and P6 mean nothing because the bloody outfits are already unlocked for you.

Interesting, I was not aware this was a thing. They really should have included this in the dev update when talking about the rework because the update makes it sound like getting the teachables at this moment in time is a waste of points.

    This is in the Dev-Update:

    SHRINE OF SECRETS

Unlike before, where The Shrine of Secrets would offer teachable perks that then needed to be found in Bloodwebs, the Shrine will now allow you to purchase perks directly. Purchasing a perk through the Shrine of Secrets will make the Tier 1 version of it immediately available on all Killers or Survivors, much like prestige. Subsequent Tiers of that perk will also begin appearing in Bloodwebs.

You may also purchase a perk again to increase its Tier. This works seamlessly with the prestige system, as purchasing a perk you’ve already unlocked through prestige will instead increase its Tier.

"This works seamlessly with the prestige system"

Everything they've told us so far supports the idea that each prestige or SoS purchase functions as the same repeatable event, I don't see why that would be difficult to code.

So I come back to this. Any combination of Prestiging or SoS purchases, totalling three instances, will achieve the same effect.

So if you Prestige, you get Tier 1 on all characters. If you then purchase it from the SoS twice, you get Tier 3 on all characters.

In order for this system to be fair, it would have to work in reverse too. You purchase the perk from SoS and everyone gets it at Tier 1, you then prestige that character twice and everyone gets that perk at Tier 3. After all, it works "seemlessly with the prestige system".

This means that a prior unlock event (SoS purchase) is not a disqualifier for the unlock event upon Prestiging that character.

Therefore if existing teachables are to be honoured as Peanits said, upgrading them to role-wide unlocks for those perks, then they too should count as seemless unlock events too.

And thus the conclusion that; Prestiging, SoS Purchases, and existing teachables at 30/35/40, should all work identically and seemlessly, as cumulative unlock events, so that a character currently at level 40+ already has 1 tier unlocked, and any subsequent prestige or SoS purchase should unlock tier 2, and then tier 3.

    Any help @Peanits ?

Edit: Doesn't seem like anything mentioned in the livestream confirms or denies this still.
