Do you guys find yourself longing for old dbd (2016-2017)

I sure do miss the good ol days. There was something about old dbd that made the game more scary. People actually played the game as intended (stealth) and the animations showed fear, the visuals were spooky (blurriness when you look in the distance), thick fog, better auras (a little darker and outlined in black), old running, always fast vaulting, and throwing down pallets at light speed, facing a billy every game, legacy, taking 2 years to get through 1 bloodweb, the lanterns in lunar new year event, the first Halloween event, double pallets at every tile and the extra audio. You guys remeber those eery noises of screaming in the background? And all the differnt music tracks. There would be a specific sound track for whatever state you are in (healthy, injured, downed, hooked, chased, exit gates are powered, stealth). I sure do miss monto and his old dbd yt vids aswell.
There was always something about old dbd that is so much better than today's, the good and the bad, heck nurse had 7 blinks when she came out and huntress hatchet hit boxes were 50 meters wide and those "negatives" created positives for me, memories to look back on and it makes me wanna be back in the good ol days of dbd.
Don't get me wrong dbd now is still great, but it's not horror anymore and hasn't been since outfits and clown release came into the game, now it's a very controversial killer vs survivor battle, toxicity, super sweat and never ending complaints which gets old after a while.
I just wanna kick back relax, put on my urban evasion and self care (urban- which was meta for like 2 years after release ) and get scared out of my pants when I hear a heart beat. And I didn't mention the moonlight offerings. Those were crazy, but awsome
I would love if bhvr made past game versions available to play, it's probably impossible but i would buy them for 20 bucks each if they came out.
Most of us vets all sot down ready to play today's dbd and just have flashbacks and real good memories of old dbd, and we miss it, we miss it so much.

All the time.

I didn't play the game then but from what I've watched the feeling of the game being more amateurish felt better in a way?

100%.

I suspect if people from nowadays play old DbD it gonna be loopingfest.

Not really cause It would be the first hour where I saw the complete imbalance the game had. Literally no killers being viable until nurse coming out, sprint burst coming back mid chase while also useable with balanced, double pallets, double pallet and window jungles gyms, no entity block, A LOT more windows open on iron works and wretched shop while killer vault speed was like 50% of what it currently is, guaranteed fast vaults for the survivor. I would go on but I would write and essay on how ######### untouchable survivors were in 2016-17.

The Game was deffinatly not survivor sided back then. Like @fulltonon said it would be crazy survivor sided now adays
0 -
Toxicity wasn't really a thing back then so that's one huge reason the game was humble
3 -
Nah it looked horrible. The maps looks awful and had infinites plus the survivor animations looked horrendous. I only like watching old dbd content from when they put the survivor portraits in the game. Still maps like the swamp still look really bad
4 -
No because I didn't start playing until early 2021.

I miss old coldwind/autohaven and old hillbilly. I also miss when hits felt accurate.
5 -
Absolutely not killer was a horrid mess of a role back then where you got quad ds'd and you couldn't do anything about it and you got looped to infinity because of poor map design and old balanced landing so with the devs seemingly attempting to at least try to take balance more seriously I find myself way more excited for the future of dbd rather than wanting to go to the past.

Thematically? Sure. All the infinites and broken tech exploits? ######### no

Modern DBD does feel pretty corporate and I joined late 2020.
The grind, the skin prices, and rifts all feel meticulously crafted around keeping players interested. In a way a business is a business and the gaol is to make money so I wont quit dbd over this. I can see through their masks though on why some stuff is made a way so that their model doesn't fail i.e. the "reduced" grind.

True but if we went back to 2016-2017 dbd knowing what we know now and how to play the game would be a mess unfortunately we will never get that true experience back its simply just gone and it affects other games with it that share a similar premise
1 -
No I mean game itself is survivor sided, just that players weren't.
0 -
So infinites with old BNPs and 200 charge toolboxes with no nurse in the game wasnt survivor sided? Alright now I know thats bait. Just because people didnt know how to play back then which is a false statement of its own doesn't mean the game wasnt survivor sided. Also because theres videos of people acting super cocky because they knew they were untouchable.

Do you really want to go back to old DS, old BT, old brand new parts etc?

I think the removal of the fog killed a lot of the ambiance the game had. That's the only thing I really missed was the fog and the darkness of the maps.
The balance was terrible though. It's still pretty bad, but not as bad as it was. So I don't miss that at all.
I did like the all around slower animations though. That mixed with the fog and ambiance gave a real horror movie vibe to it that it just kinda lost with each update.
I love some of the new maps like garden of joy, haddonfield, and midwich. And lerys is my favorite older map. All of them were created very well visually. Not balance wise but visually. Now imagine if they still had fog how much better it would be.
Or how cool erie of Crows or even the reworked coldwin maps would look with an ominous fog everywhere? I could decently forgive balance issues if it felt more like a horror game.

Wdym you didnt find basically any window vault to be an infinite fun to go against? :)

I didn't play back then, but I've watched a lot and heard many accounts of how it was, and I think that going back is one of those things that some people think sounds great until they get it.
Nostalgia is a hell of drug.

Old DBD was more atmospheric. That was the main reason I started playing DBD. I miss thick fog, full moon offerings, more stealth and old corn maps. All killers looked scary, unlike Legion for example.
3 -
I know what you mean, I kinda miss the old more dark foggy look of the maps, all maps seemed to be surrounded by some kind of gloomy Forrest
2 -
Not in a ######### million years would i ever miss going back to playing old dbd again.
I say good riddance to it all, especially the old aesthetics and the original versions of all the maps that got changed during the Realm Beyond.
1 -
I miss the visuals and nothing else.
5 -
Graphic-wise yes. Gameplay-wise I am happy that the broken stuff is gone (except for Nurse).
But the graphics looked a lot better back then. And the game was actually dark. I always made Jokes about DBD played in daylight, because sometimes you were able to see 3/4th of a Map without problems. And then they brought Eyrie of Crows and the Coldwind-Rework, which are actually in broad daylight...
3 -
People who want to play old dbd clearly arent watching the old 4man hatch escape videos it may have a few pluses that we no longer have but it was very unbalanced at the time.
2 -
I havent played at that time but from what I read and heard about it, I am glad
1 -
Wasn't playing during 2016 but 2017? Not really.
2018/2019? Yeah, I miss those 2 year years. It's why I play so much Sadako, because she feels closest to 2018 gameplay.

This was on top of Self Caring back to full health mid-chase

as annoying as those times were, they are 1000% better than we have now
maybe not the hatch tho, that thing worst than dead hard

I never experienced old DbD, I joined during the 4th Anniversary, but from what I've seen and heard about it, it looks unbearable to play as Killer
0 -
Only thing I miss about old DBD are coldwind and macmillian, maybe Freddy.
0 -
I think any nostalgia I have for 2018 could be easily fixed by playing one game from that time and getting DS'd the first time I pick up a survivor. Ideally all four of them would have instaheals too.

Absolutely right - that's how I feel too. I would love to see new gen sounds in the indies, the old grab window animations, plus the sounds for each health status and so on. Yeah, I miss the old DBD too. Today there is only genrush and troll and nothing else. Sadly

yea old was fun with stretched res even but i dont really care about that, the thing im missing is old movement and the textures they hit different fr

you do know that nurse didnt have blink cooldowns back in the days right? and wdym with no nurse?
0 -
Nope. Graphics were worse, there were more broken areas on maps, more bugs, more broken perks, and even worse matchmaking. Also fewer characters to play.
1 -
“Sweating”, aka playing the game.
1 -
2018/2019 were the worst years of DbD, cuz of Spirit.
1 -
Before September 18th 2018 was great
Post-September 2018 was great too because I started playing more killer.
0 -
Thats just nostalgia making things seem better than they actually were
If the dark days ever came back, this game would ACTUALLY die in days
0 -
Ok so most of us like the old style/aesthetics of the game rather than the actual gameplay. I guess that makes sense cause of double pallets and shi like that
0 -
i miss old graphics , old animations, it was BHVR'artistic's touch now its more "generic"
0 -
Yeah... old botany and We'll Make It with 3 stacks....
0 -
When the game first released nurse wasnt in the original 3 killers. And because one killer was overpowered wouldnt mean it wasnt survivor sided.
0 -
Ive been splurging Zubatlel's old compilations and, not to be rude, but it's a wonder that the game ever caught on! The game was a complete nightmare, between the wild inconsistency in terms of bugs, lag, and hit registration, janky counterplay behaviors (ds juggling used to be a thing, alongside the killer just being kind of frozen in place for a couple additional seconds after every pickup, pretty much just to create a flash / palette save window) -
Dead by Daylight today compared to how it looked and played back in like 2018 may as well be a sequel.
0 -
I only miss old coldwind, the map being daytime killed it for me
1 -
Old dbd as in maps with a sh*t ton of infinites? No thank u. I was a surv only player back then and even I know that sh*t was broken.
I still have flashbacks of the old broken hitbox. The dang exhaustion recovering while running. Self Care to full health during chase (Jeez).
What we miss is the feel of old dbd, not IT precisely
0 -
The game was never humble people were ######### back then. And they are ######### now lol..... I've played since beta what is this. You really want pallet vacuum back ? 2 pallets side by side (the trucks) and dont forget auto haven had between 38-42 pallets yeah nice try bud. No exaustion on perks making balanced landing, sprint burst , adrenaline never catching a single survivor. Hell no I don't miss those days.
The only thing that was good back then is that most survivors would hide and not just bang out generators as quick as they do now. No one is scared of killers now.
