The second iteration of 2v8 is now LIVE - find out more information here: https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/kb/articles/480-2v8-developer-update

Do you guys find yourself missing the graphics/ambience/thematics/aesthetics old dbd had?

I posted a simular discussion yesterday, but instead it was more of the old gameplay and most people said they hated the old balance and gameplay but loved the feel and theme of old maps. They liked the darkness and fog and actually horror feel of the game

So what I'm asking now is how many of us want those old aesthetics and horror feeling back into the game. I'm not exactly saying graphics because the new graphics we have now are great, but adding darkness, more fog, depth of field (when you look into the distance and it is blurry creating that spooky effect) to the modern graphics we have now would be truly amazing. I really want to feel that horror feel of the game everyone did back in 2016-2017.

Not just the aesthetics of the game but the audio too. Do any of you remember that eerie noise that always happened when you were stealthing? It was like a strange screaming noise and people always speculated it was the pigs/cows at the cow/pig tree (forgot what animal it was). Plus all the differnt music themes per state you were in. So like there would be different background music if you were healthy, Injured, downed, doing a gen, stealthing, getting chased, hooked, exit gates are powered, etc. Even the old animations showed fear in the survivors faces.

I truly wish the devs consider bringing some of those horror aesthetics (i apoligize if I keep spelling that word wrong) back into the game, but unfortunately after cosmetics were introduced and trickster came into the game the game will never be horror agian, but I do believe we can get some of that horror factor back by simply changing lighting, and visual effects of the game.

If people complained about this as much as dead hard I'm sure the devs would add this type of stuff back.

I dunno, I think they've captured the visual clarity of old dbd just fine with the new map

I wasn't playing the game beck then, but I see old videos and find it remarkable that the modern version of the game actually looks worse. So it's not nostalgia, it genuinely used to just look much better.

upstairs opening the secret invisible chest. I've "seen" it there multiple times but only because i see the prompt when running past it. The lighting in that house is absolutely horrendous and not in a good way. Oh, and you can see its not during nightfall either, just absolutely awful dynamic lights.

Yeah people ask for this and then put filters on and then max the brightness anyway. I can't even hide in a bush for some fun against pc players because they have it set to low graphics with high brightness so I'm like hiding in a twig on their screen 😆

On the contrary I’d love some modern touches, some per object motion blur on the animations, higher res textures, etc

I personally didn't like playing in the old DBD aesthetics. It was too dark, graphics were poor, lots of fog for some reason. It does give me lots of nostalgia looking back on it but I wouldn't want to return to it. I remember how hard it was to see playing Old Freddy because of the white atmosphere surprisingly making everything harder to see due to the fog. Honestly the only thing I want from back then is on-release Freddy with some tweaks.

The only thing that got out of hand was the moonlight offerings and insanly thick fog where neas just crouched in and you couldn't see the floor it was that thick

Me and @GeneralV do yes. I speak for him now in his absence.

Yes. DBD had it's own unique style back then, the maps had character and life, and the characters actually looked like survivors trying to survive/merciless killers. Now the maps are empty, generic, and lifeless and the characters lost all of their character/personality.

Nah bro I never played back then but the colors of the map looked horrendous, like all of the farm maps had a horrendous looking green fog and it looked like garbage compared to what it is now. (I mean to be fair it's still garbage cause of the corn every where but u know what i mean)

Yes. I didn't even play when they used the old engine, so this isn't nostalgia speaking. The blurry watercolor effects and nighttime maps looked beautiful in my opinion. I know the new maps are objectively better detail wise but I wish we could have that with the old lighting.

I loved the atmosphere much more back then, but the new maps are promising

still, i hope they tweak a little bit more on the recently reworked ones, they are way too bright and boring, compared to how they looked back then =) earlier today I watched some old TydeTyme YT videos, THAT gave me Nostalgia, I just loved how the maps felt back then

Good thing you are correct, then.

Even if I am...well, gone, I still miss my old and beloved game.

Maps used to have there own tint. Like azorvs had green tint, iron works had blue tint, and coldwin had a cozy lantern fire tint. It was so good

i still cant get over of how they massacred autoheavens wreckers and several other maps. From my favorite realm it became something like hadonfield. Its not just about some sort of FELLING or aesthetis but it started hurting my eyes. I could not see anything. I still cant belive this was not some kind of trolling.

    I missed the atmosphere yea

    As well as the community

It looks atmospheric, albeit a bit outdated as well. But I think killers would have a harder time finding survivors on those maps. Maybe they could have kept the colours the same.

I can't imagine how it must feel for Billy's, with the number of trees in their way.

I'm not an OG player so I actually started when they were announcing the reworks and didn't get as much playtime on the old maps as others. I did like the look of the old maps better - the darkness and the creepiness. The only atmospheric change that was good is Haddonfield. The old one unfortunately looked a bit like it was out of a cartoon.

I do prefer the new survivor animations though but I will admit it took me a long time to get used to them and I hated them at first. 😅
