Why Can't BHVR people talk about the game anymore?

So I just heard about this and it's extremely confusing, why the sudden lockdown on devs? Talking with them about the game has been fine for years and went a long way towards bolstering community goodwill and trust. It's the reason I didn't get literal panic attacks from the patch announcement because I could hear explanations of why some things were done and be put at ease. This move sends the message that something bad is going on internally and I'm concerned that things will be getting worse for the game moving forward, like maybe the company has lost confidence in the game or might be in the first stages of ending support for it. Like I just want to know the reasoning

I just found out that people who work on the game aren't allowed to talk about the game at all anymore from a discord message, except Mandy and peanuts on this forum. It's so draconian and inexplicable

Because there is a rat in the company leaking a lot of things. This is a way to find out who it is.

Would you mind showing the source?

I'm not doubting you, just curious

But they've all always stuck to the "only share or discuss things that are public knowledge " rule so it's still a very sudden crackdown. It was nice to hear a "oh we did it this way because X" or "I made this character model!" from everyone, like you felt engaged and involved as a community member. The only reason I wasn't panicking about the perk changes for example is because I heard public commentary on why they were altered this way and it greatly boosted my confidence in the update. Now all I can think is "what went wrong?" and all that built trust is gone. So if we want to know anything we can ONLY hear from you two if we get lucky enough for you to see our post and decide to respond? Like I still don't understand why such a huge breakdown of transparency and trust at a time when the game most needs exactly that. At minimum it looks bad if not openly suspicious to suddenly discourage communication that's been open for years.

I don't know if they're internally punishing people for even so much as announcing this policy change so I'd rather not, I hope you understand.

Probably because everytime a dev talks about something other people are going to interpret it in their own way ignoring how it was meant.

I won't lie, it'd probably be better if they don't reply to some posts if all they got is their company script to type.

The devs aren't all of one mind. They have differing opinions on things. That's ok and to be expected, but it can create confusion when unscheduled opinions are being given and taken as official stances. Take the Billy nerf for instance: I'm fairly certain some on the team wanted him to be 110%ms, and others thought the overheat was a better direction. Changes are already controversial enough, but imagine the confusion it would create if one developer is talking about the merits of 110 Billy prior to that.

So on the one hand, yeah, I'd love to talk to a dev about what they think of Nurse. But I 100% guarantee the devs have differing opinions about her amongst themselves. And it makes their job and the mods' jobs a lot easier if things are said only over official communications.
