Legacy should be the minimum!

Not really tbh. Back in the day DBD was much different and much harder. I played legacy dbd everyday when it first came out for a long time ( I just had surgery so it was the only thing to keep boredom away) and I only managed to get 2 legacies which are billy and Claudette. And I barely play with them anymore lol

The funniest thing I think is the uniformity of browsing the interface (yes, for that stupid cheap yellow effect to be distributed regularly on my screen). I had to get all my characters into P3 during these periods.
However, after completing the full P3, I suddenly thought that the new characters in the future will not have these yellow particle pollution. So, in the end I still need to close this stupid, ugly "AWARD", in order to keep the interface uniform.
In other words, I'm not getting any AWARD for full P3, I'm getting nothing but a yellow S H I T which I need to clean(close)

I'm fine with that but why even add a "reward" that's so bad you added an option to turn it off? Like I'm at least glad the option was there(wish there was one for the chat filter too) but it's such a minor reward that you could barely call it a reward.
2 -
Making the P3 prior to the update a portrait reward for all characters is much fairer imo.
Not really.
First of all, it's an ugly effect and even if you were to like it you'd need to disable it unless you're fine with having half the character selection screen glowing and half not.
Second, it commemorates nothing because A, noone is seeing it (but many of us couldn't care less about it being visible unless it's a skin or something I can choose to equip) and B as many other people already pointed out, it doesn't feel like an adequate rewards for years of grind and wasted bloodpoints, items, offerings (exclusive ones as well) and time.
Honestly, like others pointed out, it is disrespectful to the players and their dedication.
I understand you don't want to waste too many resources for designing or thinking hard about another reward at this point, but you have the possibility of asking your community what they feel is right and, if you demonstrate that you're interested in the satisfaction of your players, we'd probably be fine with receiving a reward down the line, just make sure noone slips through the cracks like it happened with the Leatherface shards.
And if you don't even feel like asking the community, you could give a bloodpoint reward, that should take minimal effort, right?
Consider that prestiging once a character costs 1.5 million bloodpoints in average, you could say that each prestige level unlocked before the update will be rewarded with 500k bloodpoints, this way people who have their character to P1 or P2 don't feel excluded from the reward (it's honestly unfair that THEIR efforts are dismissed like it was absolutely nothing)
Possible ideas for more suitable rewards IMO could be:
A different version of the bloody cosmetic (I know you said you don't want to give skins as reward but you could always backtrack after hearing the community feedbacks)
Enable the sparkles effect around the characters in trials, you could tie it to a copy of an existing cosmetic, either the default cosmetic of the character or the bloody version of it, so that if you equip that cosmetic, your characther will have fireflies around them.
A charm that represents the character you reached P3 with, something like the Huntress' mask charm that was in Rift 8 (I think?)
X amount of currency per prestige level, like I said earlier, prestiging before the update means you threw away bloodpoints and time, since you need to start over again, so like 500k bloodpoints per prestige level or like 1k iridescent shards per prestige level

I'm not sure why they don't do it, it's not a smart move on their part , they claim to strive for community satisfaction but even the smallest things the majority of the community would want they won't do, it wouldn't take alot of resources for just a few things here and there that don't affect gameplay balance, I'm talking things like rewards or bloodhunts or even events, like the summer bbq event, It was great and you grinded for a reward instead of it being locked behind the paywall and the way everything looked was sick.

Underwhelming reward for years of grinding. Honestly, I had hopes for something good.
Very disappointing.

While I'm unhappy with the prestige reward and wouldn't say no to legacy at all... I'm pretty sure legacy cosmetics will never be on the table because they'd have to try and negotiate with every license to get them on licensed characters. And Freddy/Demo/Quentin/Steve/Nancy are just flat-out never happening, so the whole thing is scuttled. You can't give a P3 reward and then exclude a few characters when it's probable that some players out there only have those characters P3ed.

I see your point, but...they did exactly that with Michael and Laurie.
As a long time Freddy main, I would be disappointed, but... it is still better than that ugly portrait.
2 -
it also came at a time when there weren't 29 survivors to prestige so its about the same.
2 -
Well said.
5 -
That’s what I said + all the killers…
You (bhvr) couldn’t argue with the „more grind at the beginning“. They can just use the bloody prestige-skins and change the blood into silver or something like that. On top maybe put the P3-Logo in the score-screen.

The glimmer on our character portraits has to be one of the laziest and most unrewarding rewards we have ever gotten
6 -
You guys presented some awesome ideas. I too understand that designing a bunch of cosmetics for us who P3-ed before this midchapter goes live would take so many resorces, but.... Taking existing default or bloody cosmetics, and changing the blood color, or just adding some shiny parts (like the original legacy, but instead of golden/lava you add blue or red or something) would be so satisfying. It shouldn't take too long to modify the default (or bloody) outfits, especially since only the original characters would be getting them anyway.
I think this would be the fairest reward. Free BP or shards would also feel extremely lazy and cheap to me. The currency gets spent, and then what do you have left? Nothing. The cosmetics are the only reward that would feel satisfying.
Heck, even if you don't want to modify the whole default/bloody cosmetics (I don't see why adding a bit of colored particles would take too much time to begin with though), give us at least something! For example, just torso cosmetics! The default torso piece with colored particles. Surely, I think we deserve full outfits, since we grinded MUCH more than the 2016 grinders, but even just special modified torsos would be something.
The current glowing overlay on the characters' portraits just shows how little you value your commited players. (who have spent a lot of money on DLCs and cosmetics btw!!)
7 -
That’s a huge point:
I think a lot of the longtime players spend a lot of money over the years… and I would think about that, if I were a company. Disappointing such a part of the community/customers couldn’t be a good move 🤔 but what I know about customer relationship? 🤷🏼♂️
3 -
Why? Why should we get anything? It's a gesture, nothing more. Why would we be entitled to any kind of compensation? Because we played before other players?

This post has a lot of whys if you didnt take time to read:
Regarding the original legacy @Alen_Starkly said:
"Those people grinded for a few months. I've grinded for a few years , and some people even for several years to get everyone to P3, and even maxed out. This year and especially the last few months I grinded insanely much. So by your (BHVR) standard, a few months of grind deserves awesome rewards that others can see, but a few years of grind deserves not more than ugly portraits filter that no-one beside you can see, and you yourself doesn't wanna see it either 'cause it's ugly?"
A simple yellow overlay is not a fair or a real reward for the time spent from people who love the game, its just disappointing.
8 -
since we are at "not giving players stuff others cannot get", how about somehow making old Charms available to everyone! it would be just fair, or how is it fair that I will never get the Gardendwarf or the Mr puddles charm?
2 -
Yea I agree with you but once I found out that the "REWARD" for trying to grind to get to p3 before the patch was sparkles that only we can see I gave up giving any care about grinding to p3 on any other character.
I understand why Legacy wasn't a option because of License Characters but they could of done more like tendrils that encircle our prestige badge to show it off....blood drips that make more sense and is a nod to the bloody cosmetics.....but sparkles...that seems like a very low hanging fruit...and a rotten one at that.
6 -
I think the reward is fine they just got to make the portraits look better. They said that they weren’t gonna do cosmetics so I don’t know why people are complaining about it now lmao
0 -
I never prestiged, but I get the disappointment. These players want something to show off to others.
Make whatever it is visible at the end game screen or in the lobby.
5 -
And that's exactly what I'm putting up for discussion here: how can you justify fobbing off players who have lost their inventory again and again over several years and thousands of hours of play (long before the announcement of a prestige changeover!)? The invested effort is simply many times higher compared to the few months at the beginning. And just because bhvr says: we don't do cosmetics, it doesn't mean "all right, we think it's great!"... in an open discussion, factual arguments and criticism should be allowed to be expressed. And if necessary, objectivity can also change opinions. Makes sense to question even times own views and possibly change mistakes or even business act...
6 -
There are still a lot of exclusive cosmetics in the game, neas hype shirt, trappershirt for dwight, megs golden shirt, outfits from 4th birthday and so on… in the past bhvr give out to everyone just the cosmetics which codes were sold for very high prices on other platforms like street meg. They want just remove the code selling.
2 -
Let the whole legacy thing go already it's 2022 why do you want another default reskin anyway when you have hella cosmetics in the store 💀💀
1 -
I get being mad that the portraits don’t look as best as they could. I wish it was a cosmetic but even when they revealed it wasn’t gonna be the reward I still went ahead and prestiged a ton of characters.
0 -
The reward of the grind were the skins and the add-ons.
They are improving the game so we don't have to grind so much anymore. That's already pretty good in itself.
We are not losing anything and getting a token to mark the change. Why would anyone cry is not enough?
Unless ... bragging rights? That's it? Getting something "exclusive" that cannot be obtained anymore and can be shown to everyone? Maybe also some kind of jealousy over the ones who got an exclusive and publicly visible item (skin) years ago?
Oh gods that's it isn't it? No wonder I did not understand. It's so ...
I'm speechless.

Prestiging was all the years the only way to get the bloody cosmetics, so you had to start always again from level 1-50 and again while you lost everytime your inventory (perks, addons, items). Now they change it so you will not loose all these things, so all who have decided against prestiging are now the lucky ones and to all who loose these stuff in all the years they say: bad luck
4 -
Yeah I get that. Im still glad that prestiged some characters early so that could stockpile without feeling incomplete
0 -
I understand the reasoning behind not having legacy 2.0, but I wanted something that could be seen by other players, even if only in the tally screen. A sparkle effect on the character portrait that only you can see, and only when you open the character screen is hardly a fitting reward for prestiging before the update.
Even just a different prestige border for those who P3'd prior to the update would be better than the sparkle effect.
4 -
Because outfits in store arent free and doesnt show that you put effort into the grind
3 -
Which is a shame in the context of how buggy DbD was at the time. So buggy that people lost their safe files multiple times and never received their Legacy back.
2 -
The problem I think is that once players knew there would be some reward, they grinded several characters to P3. I see why players would be disappointed.
I'm on the fence about having a unique reward. I don't care much for the "sparkle" icon, I think a bloody avatar would have been more fitting. But maybe that is going to be saved for the future. But the question to me is "do we really need to distinct between players that did it before the new system?" because the new system isn't all that different. It's still a bad grind.
0 -
Players prestiged long before the announcement of the upcoming change and a kind of reward. You can say these players want to see a fitting compensation for all the stuff they lost over the years while they commit to the game and the prestige system and when the update arrives you don’t have to loose addons, perks, items or offerings…
0 -
This is true, but my question still stands; do we need to create a distinction about who prestiged when? I don't believe we do. Others might disagree.
1 -
That was also during a time where there was waaaay less characters and perks.
3 -
Which, in turn, made it far easier to get the rewards.
2 -
Yes, for some people that is exactly it - Bragging rights, because that is what BHVR promised in the Mid-Chapter Gameplay Update twitch stream not too long ago (maybe you didn't see it?). So I think it is very understandable that a part of the community trusted that promise and expected a reward that would give them "bragging rights" in some way and are now incredibly disappointed with the lazy portrait glitter that other people cannot see.
4 -
I've watched it but I don't recall anything about "bragging rights".
1 -
I hope that works like that (sorry I'm fairly new to posting on the forum) :)
4 -
I stand corrected.

From the Anniversary stream:
https://youtu.be/hILUtCTf7GU?t=2920
"For those who haven't yet prestiged their characters, we're also working on a fair way to still reward players for their time investment and dedication, once this update takes effect."
So it doesn't actually say anything about other players being able to see the reward.

I would like a Diamond border and a diamond Prestige icon on my Prestiged characters as a way of showing legacy. That way people can see all the work that I done and people who did it afterwards will never have that. Made a post about it already.

Maybe at the anniversary stream (May 17th) they hadn't finalized the "reward" yet so they said they are "working on it" and didn't share too many details, which makes sense.
I posted a clip 2 posts up from yours from the Mid-Chapter Gameplay Update twitch stream from June 27th where they did in fact mention "bragging rights" which implies other people would be able to see it.
