What do I have to do to get exclusive cosmetics before the patch?

I'm seeing talk that you get red backgrounds if you p3 people before the patch. Do I have to p3, or do I have to have a total of 150 levels in them? The devs said that levels post-50 count towards the total prestige, is this still true? What should I be doing to prepare for the progression change, should I prestige people at 50 or leave them be?

Should I be grinding up now so I don't have to spend the 50k to prestige them later? But stop at p3 so I don't waste bp?

I've grinded so much in this game I'd hate to not get the most out of this transition.

The red background will only be given to characters that are P3 before the patch goes live. There is no other way to get it.

It is still true that perk tiers will give you prestige levels (70 for P1, 120 for P2, 170 for P3, etc)

The cost to prestige has been lowered to 20,000.

Each pre-patch prestige level will essentially give you 3 levels after the patch goes into effect, so a P1 before the patch will be P3 after (P3 before will be P9 after).

There is no right way to do it. I am prestiging some characters now if they don't have items, add-ons, or offerings I care about, while other characters I'm just getting more perk tiers through level 50 bloodwebs without prestiging.
