After all Spine Chill got buffed?

I am Japanese and may use terrible English. Please understand.

I just tested the reworked Spine Chill with a friend and was amazed at the results. Because Spine Chill reacts to stealth killers!

It responded even when the killer was somewhat further away than 32 meters(maybe 36 m?), so perhaps the PTB specifications are still intact in the current version.

I must confess that I am quite puzzled. At least in the Japanese community, it was believed that the unconditional Spine Chill response to killers within 36m was a provisional specification of the PTB and that the actual version would have the icon light up in response to Terror Radius.

People also thought, "I heard that this specification was added for people with hearing disabilities. So they wouldn't make any changes that would disadvantage stealth killers more than they do now". However, this forecast turned out to be wrong.

I would like to ask everyone on the forum, do you think this Spine Chill behavior is abnormal? Or do you think we Japanese have misunderstood the adjustment and this specification is normal?

thank you.

A difference between this new version and the old version is you can't tell if the kill is looking directly at you unless you can actually see them. So while you know that the killer is somewhere within 36 meters of you it doesn't help you know if they're headed your way or walking away or what like the old version does. Of course when it's lit you'll know to be cautious and watch for them potentially but it's not quite the same imminent warning that the old version was.

Also the action speed bonuses aren't as good in the new one since they only work when the killer has direct line of sight on you and they got rid of the vault speed bonus as well.

So from what I can tell the perk right now is still quite good, almost as good as the old one. I don't think it's buffed though.

    Thank you for comment!

I have tested Spine Chill with Ghostface and have seen the perk icon light up even when the killer is in stealth and has his back turned.

Also, when Ghostface is not using his ability, the gauge of the perk icon seems to change according to the distance of the Terror Radius. This should probably be a normal specification.

I'm machine translating the Japanese text into my posts, but I'm glad the text is getting through!

If you know GF has his back turned, that implies he's within line of sight....

The perk works for killers in your line of sight, if you can see them, it works.

Sorry. I misunderstood. I didn't know that the activation condition for the new Spine Chill had nothing to do with the killer's line of sight.

I forgot to tell you this as well. in my verification with a friend, there was a wall between the GF and the survivor. Also, the icon was still lit in that condition.

Just to help people who are still confused about this: currently, Spine Chill DOES light up ANY TIME the killer is within 36m of you (even if they are Undetectable or if you are Oblivious). So, in a sense it "hard counters" stealth killers or Oblivious (especially at the beginning of the match).

But, as dugman says above, knowing they are within 36m of you doesn't always help you. In fact, it might make you waste lots of time hiding while the killer is actually going after someone else. Think of the perk Premonition, which even tells you the direction the killer is in, but is generally seen as a very, very weak perk.

The key effect of old Spine Chill (telling you when the killer is actually looking in your direction) has very much been nerfed. The only way to know that the killer is looking in your direction is that you see a speed increase on your progress bar (when Repairing, Healing, Sabotaging, Unhooking, Cleansing, Blessing, Opening, or Unlocking). Even worse, you only get the speed increase if they have a clear line of sight to you.

So, if you are walking/running/hiding or if the killer is behind a wall, Spine Chill does NOT tell you if the killer is looking in your direction.

The way it works today, the survivor knows exactly when the killer is getting closer if the survivor isn't moving. The perk icon gradually fills in at the slightest motion. I don't understand why the perk is this accurate? According to the wiki, the terror radius noises are split into "three equidistant radii". Why is Spine Chill giving accurate information down to the meter, when the terror radius noises are split into three equidistant radii?

It does, however, make it literally impossible for a stealth killer to ever sneak up on you. It essentially invalidates their while point. That would be like a 36 meter safety bubble where traps don't activate, or where deathslinger can't fire his gun. 36 is more than enough distance to get away from the killer, and it definitely let's you prevent ghostface from getting any meaningful stalk in.

Spinechill's automatic 36 meter detection should not detect undetectable. One perk should not unvalidate an entire killer class especially considering itsthe class having difficulty being viable as it is.

You're right that it can be very powerful against stealth killers (perhaps too powerful, and they might need to change that), but...even with that said, there probably won't be many people at all who run Spine Chill now because: !) they removed the vault speed boost, and 2) it no longer reliably tells you when the killer is looking in your direction.

It's basically a mid-tier perk that might become very good if you happen to go against a stealth killer, so I just don't think many people will choose it. I'm going to watch and see how many people are still using it in my matches.

For people that used Spine Chill to pre leave generators, the new spine chill is much more powerful than the old spine chill. With the old spine chill, a survivor would see the icon light up, and assume that meant the killer was walking towards them. With the new spine chill, if the survivor isn't moving, then the gradual meter tells you exactly when the killer is moving towards you, down to the slightest movement.

I think it's unhealthy for the game. With the new spinechill, you don't even have to have situational awareness. For example, when I run it, no need to look around. You have a perfect safety bubble so as long as the icon isn't lighting up. Going against a stealther? As long as it's not lighting up, you know you're sage. No need to see if they are stalking you you. No need to keep an eye out. Don't even have to look anywhere other than staring at the icon. A guaranteed safety bubble really takes away from the thrill/horror theme, as well.

    Spine Chill has 3 effects.

    • Notifies survivors if the killer is within 36 meters.
    • Increases a survivor's speed for repairing, sabotaging, healing, unhooking, cleansing, blessing, opening exit gates and unlocking if the killer has a direct line of sight to the survivor.
    • Gives an indication of the killer's terror radius intensity (fixed in 6.1.1)

    That being said ...

    英語が上手ですね!
