The Only Solo Escape Build You'll Ever Need
I'd always had an issue with the design choice of hatch.
Before Patch 5.3.0, 2v1 scenarios always devolved into one or both survivors neglecting the objective in favor of escaping through hatch, EVEN IF...
- The last generator was over 60% complete
- The last 3 generators were incredibly spread out (i.e. either end of Hawkins Lab)
- The survivor in chase has already demonstrated an ability to loop the killer longer than a minute
- Both survivors have never been hooked
This lead to extremely dull gameplay loops in which either...
- The killer had to wait 5+ minutes for one survivor to mistakenly reveal themself
- The killer had to AFK until a survivor decides to finally work on a gen
- The survivor who tries to progress the objective is punished for being the only one thinking about the team
- The survivor who tries to progress the objective is slugged for nearly 4 minutes as the killer looks for the last survivor
- The survivor and the killer work together to find the hiding survivor
Patch 5.3.0 remedied this issue (not on paper, but in practice), by making the hatch's location unknown until 3 survivors had been sacrificed, thus rendering the hatch an unreliable way to escape the trial.
Patch 6.1.0 has arguably presented survivors with the hardest version of DBD to-date--removing cornerstone perks from the meta whilst buffing killers' ability to end chase and slow down the game. While a majority of survivors are trying to adapt to the meta, I've noticed a rising trend in survivors who have returned to their self-serving ways and have begun playing for hatch before the game even begins.
This is all just anecdotal right now, but I did want to bring it to people's attention. Some variation of this build has become prevelant in my games, and perhaps it is even starting to appear in yours.
Left Behind (as well as Sole Survivor, despite how bad it is) is not healthy perk design.

I believe your anecdotal evidence, its been a thing for years, lmao. As a killer its like ok ima just check the basement.
Usually if they play like this they will be hiding there ;)

Unless they changed this as well, the hatch spawns at start of match and can still be found early by walking over its invisible bump.

They've already lost mentally before the game even started if they're running a build purely to escape at the end neglecting everything else that comes before that

I agree. Left Behind and Sole Survivor should not exist in any capacity. I refuse to use them. They suck, but they should not exist.
We should not be encouraging survivors to play for hatch or neglect the main objective and wait for their team to get killed.
I don't even like that Clairvoyance shows the hatch.

You can run wake up+ sole survivor and play normally until 2 people are left, it's more reliable than hatch, you're not going to win with 2 people alive anyway it's over, might aswell go hide next to a door

Kindred/Empathy + Windows + Exhaustion perk + Flex perk of choice. Actually gives you proper information as a solo so you don't have to succumb to playing for hatch and can make dynamic choices to help or avoid the team as needed. People keep making these "I don't want to die" builds without realizing that efficiency and information go a lot further to keeping them alive on average.

There should probably be some sort of catchup mechanism for survivor that isnt just "hide and hope you find the hatch first." I dont know what that would look like that would be fair but right now if even one person is dead and 0-1 gens have been done the game might as well be over.

Confidence is the catchup mechanic you're looking for. People give up too easily and pretty much assure their own demise way too often. Thats why if it becomes 1v3 it can feel like your work was for nothing if 1-2 of the others gave up instead. The more people are willing to play for personal performance rather than win or lose, the less impact these dynamic shifts have.

I present you with my winning solo q combo! It's like hockey :)

If i "really" want to survive and or if i get consecutive bad teams with my standard builds then its
Sole Survivor/Off the Record/Spine Chill/Wake Up
Or
My P3 survivor &
Off the Record/Lithe/Iron Will/Left Behind w the pink or purple key
You cant blame people for wanting to run builds like this! If im playing well doing gens but the team is crap and making bad decisions in the trial then....Leave em right Behind! lol
