Censorship of Game Mechanics and Items
I looked this up to see what others were saying, and lots of people seem confused and frustrated by the in-game censorship. The most recent discussion turned into a run-on chain that went nowhere, so I'd like to start a new one focusing on what in-game mechanics, items, names, etc. are censored for people.
I just finished a game where I could not say the word "styptic" in the post-game chat, for no apparent reason. I had to say "purple medkit add-on."
I can see problems with "#########," because that could be hate-speech, or it could be someone asking why another player let go on the hook, but shouldn't other game-related terms be whitelisted?
Edit: The example of a problematic term that I can understand being censored in-game ... has been censored on the forum now too. 🤦♂️ To the moderator reviewing this, I promise I'm not being a dick.

Yesterday I tried to write "nice profile pic" and that was censored. Also in 90% of my sentences the word "but" ends up censored, so I've learned to phrase my sentences without it. At first it was difficult though it has now made me a very direct and positive person. Still, I end up using hateful words by accident like "Kate", "phone" or "Myers" so my sentence gets censored anyway

Yeah, nobody likes the censorship. I still see people get around it to say hateful slurs, because the kind of people that spew bile on a regular basis are the ones that get familiar enough to know what they can and can't say. But people trying to chat dynamically get cockblocked constantly. Off the top of my head, you can never say "_ main", Yun-Jin, Wesker, Myers, phone, youtube, tiktok, tbag, any variant of "kill(ed) my/your/her/him/themself", "prove a point", "my camera", Rancor... plus it'll often decide your sentence is sketchy for no reason and censor words that it allows normally, such as "gg" or "Jonah."

I think they don't want players to single out others, like "That Dwight played so bad, please #########". But this also shuts down all meaningful conversation in the post game chat, like if you want to focus on a particular cool play "man, Meg, the way you looped my in the main building and then dropped a Flashbang was unreal!". You can't even praise the other side and talk about tactics or something.
What somehow works most of the time, though, is trashtalk the other side and throw some slurs on them and wish hurtfull and agonizing fates and dooms on them and especially their family and mothers. And its this strange disconnect that always get me. If people still send death threats to my loved ones, well then please let me also talk about that Megs performance in game, even on the off chance that I might badmouth her.

The chat filter on DBD is quite hilarious actually.
Here we have a game involving brutal murder and mutilation based on 1980’s slasher flicks, typically a highly exploitative and violent genre.
But the post game chat filter is set to Disney. You know Disney plus is going back to dub over swearing in old 80,s flicks because lil Timmy might get traumatised by the F-word.
Yeah I’ve complained about the low quality of interactions with other players post game and some things should be censored but seriously, setting the chat filter to toddler for a game like DBD is just farcical.

The censorship is weird... Warries from player to player.. I can't say Kate's name, but and some others but I can get my mom called C word in Spanish...
That's why I don't even bother to say gg I just click continue.
Makes no sense... But hey we got recycled skin as prime reward so are you really that surprised?

Makes me think of the first 40 mins of the movie Demolition Man.
Now that movie is terrible but the world they created is great.
