Why do people continue to play this game?

I want honest answers here. This game has become utter ######### lately, solo que is ASS, and so are the killers as 10 matches in a row were face camping, slugging, slowdown perks out the wazoo. I honestly want to know why people play this game. Do you tell yourself after raging that you won't come back but still do and live like this every week playing this game?

Maybe things would change if people would stop giving BHVR money.

Too bad the community won't do anything to change things. Find another game, take a break, and do other things. There's other games to play, some of you make this game your life and you really shouldn't have.

(I am not attacking anyone but this community is confusing as hell and if people think the game design is #########, then why give them more money and your time when you know they really don't care what you think?)

Because it's fun, I can turn my brain of while playing killer and just have a fun time chasing people. Or I get a SWF together and play some survivor perk-roulette and have an absolute blast (perk-roulette in general is a blast, even for killer). Overall, things just get better when you stop caring so much about the game.

That's what I do as Killer is just be silly like chasing survivors but run past them and act like they are chasing me or Hook someone and then step back and nod at the survivor that thought they were hiding to rescue the one on hook etc...

And tell me Dead_Harder, what is "fun" to you? You like getting facecamped, solo que teammates that do gens, and so on? Or are you one of those players that don't care about these things? Prefer an actual conversation.

You did, congrats. Now join the massive uproar of people who said 6.1.0 would be the death of this game and yet here we are with probably the same people still playing.

Thank you for giving me an honest answer. I just know a lot of people can't stop caring and they'll continue to cry, and if they are truly against the game, don't play and don't give them money. I think soloQ is ASS and always will be. SWF or not caring as killer is the only "fun" left for me.

Basically it's the most fun I've had in ages. This game is awesome, despite its flaws, and if you don't like it I would suggest you move on and find another game. Expecting people to not play the game because you don't like it as it is does sound like you're making your life revolve around the game.

There are plenty other games out there you can enjoy, so why getting bitter over one you clearly hate?

    Demogorgon.

Had Demogorgon not existed, or got removed back when ST left DbD, I would've left and never come back

Yep, I can only add to the answers that were already givin. I'm having a lot of fun and (unironically) as a solo queue Survivor main. All the issues that people talk about seem a bit bit petty to me. That been said, everyone has different expiriences and maybe I have just a long lasting pile of luck. But the "problems" with solo queue I encounter are always things, that could be explained by "humans make mistakes. Thats normal" and overall I don't take the game too seriously. Winning or loosing gives me a certain amount of bloodpoint, I make progress, the rest doesn't really matter. And the Rift missions are entertaining (mostly). ^^

Thats what I'm saying. low mmr and maybe even mid mmr solo queue may unplayable but High mmr won this patch. It's truly fun instead of bad players with perks.

Because i still have fun and it's one of the if not the best game of it's genre.

One thing you have to realise is that more often then not is a vocal minority.

Even if every single person in these forums complained about the same thing they still wouldn't make up a single procent in the total player base.

Those complaints still need to be listened to ofcourse but also be taken with a grain of salt.

10 post about how bad soloq is on the front page may seem a lot to forum standerts but on a whole not really anything to go by

Because friends still play it, but they do it less and less, so do I.

We searching for other games already because survivor experience after 6.1 went to crap and bhvr can go to hell for selling solutions to problems that should be fixed by them without needing perks or spending money to "enjoy" the game.

I still play. Less than I used to. I stopped buying auric cells and licensed characters ever since the matchmaking system was changed.

Throwing my own "because I enjoy it" into the pile.

Outside of people leaving a lot (which is admittedly very annoying, but seems to be passing now thank god), my solo queue experience got better after the most recent patch, and the same goes for my killer experience. I'm enjoying playing this game and think it's heading in a very healthy direction, no self-hate here.

The game's not actually bad, gang. You're just frustrated with it.

That was sarcasm Xane I really don't believe that in one but. I do agree they may of over nerfed a few perks but overall this is a good patch. What truly is making this patch bad are the whiners and quiters who are ruining the SoloQ experience by DCing or refusing to actually play the game normally. I yet to face one of these many campers that are apparently rampant that everyone is talking about

Insulting players who enjoy the game because of your ineptitude and/or dissatisfaction will not give you any points.

You don't like it? Move on. Hey, there is a free 4vs1 available right now. You have the choice waiting forever as one of the 4 or play the utter mess that's the 1. Enjoy.

The game can frustrating in solo-q, but i still enjoy the majority of my games, you obviously come across survivors or killers who will annoy or do something to antagonize you. If i get say 3 or 4 straight bad games, i'll usually take a break thinking 'yeah, that's enough of that', play another game, or do something else entirely. I can't imagine anyone consistently playing back to back games if they're seriously frustrated or in a bad mood. I would like to think the general consensus is, games are meant to be fun. I know fun is subjective, but if you find yourself not enjoying something, stop, take a break, do anything else. Why torture your mental health.

I only play survivior with friend.s so that's an excuse to spend time with them.

And I don't generally have a bad time when playing killer, so I still do sometimes.

I don't doubt people enjoy the game and being real I could get back into playing it, but bhvr will have to keep making good changes.

Imma be real. Dead By Daylight will get no praise from me. It has survived the test of time and has a devoted community, but the game itself is subpar at best.

The only reason I still somewhat care for the game, even if I rarely play it, is because I have some hope the devs will make it better.

I’m definitely in mid-MMR(if not lower) and I’m finding my teammates to be pretty okay. Sure, no one is looping the killer for 5 gens, but many know to get on gens.

While I do see a lot of tunneling, I don’t see much of the camping people whine about here. Maybe 1 out of 8-10 matches someone gets camped, unless it’s endgame camping.

Because I don't take it too seriously.

Because I'm not a sore loser and expect to lose roughly 50% of the time.

I actually like soloQ, yes it's frustrating sometimes but if you play for points and not escapes it's extremely doable to finish with 20k+ almost every game. I just wish the matchmaking was better when I get a team where we're all at least 1.2k hours escaping still isn't that hard but when I get teammates with 300 hours I know I can't rely on them and I have to play for hatch. I can't even offer to take chase because they act allergic to gens and follow me around with a gd flashlight. So yeah a lot of ups and downs but overall enjoy it.

Just because you don’t have fun, doesn’t mean the other 99% or the player base doesn’t. I love DBD, and still have tons of fun playing it. The survivors I go against most of the time put up a good challenge. I usually play blight and just go for crazy 180 flicks.

Solo q isn’t as bad as the forums make it out to be. The forums represent 100 players out of 50,000. Majority players aren’t on the forums complaining, they are on the game having fun.

I play and still have fun when it's not fun I play something else I come back because the time I invested in this game is a lot to walk away from.

Yes their are a lot that take this came way to seriously like their life depends on it.

I guess let them dream that their in a tournament for a million bucks eventually they'll snap back into reality and realize they didn't win anything😂

For what it's worth. I haven't played since late July. My group that I would play with occasionally haven't played since the day after the patch. I'm sure we're not the only ones that have left.

And at least for me, it's probably more burnout than the patch per se, but I know my group left because of the patch. Just that day they had about 4 or 5 matches with hard core tunnelers and campers. That apparently was enough for them to bounce.

I have fun. I'm playing more solo queue right now than before since I find solo queue a lot more fun after 6.1 especially since the rage quitters have either stopped rage quitting or have tanked their MMR so much I no longer see them. There's a greater variety of perks to use and I last a lot longer against tunnelers. I'm still playing about 60/40 in the roles but the 60 has switched from being killer to solo.

People take this much too seriously in the game. I use to be in the mindset of taking the game seriously because I was putting so many hours into it in every week.

Eventually, I found myself becoming more angry than I should about little things (I still do, but not as often.) I cut back on how much I play and I'm having a good time again.

There are no ingame courtesies people have to follow. Killers can tunnel, camp, or slug. Survivors can teabag, click flashlights, or body block. Not saying it's right to do so, but it's not "technically" breaking any rules.

There isn't one thing that keeps me playing. I accept DBD for all the good and bad.

What do you consider high mmr? Like I get what seal team every other 10-20 games as killer. So high mmr survivors are what 5-10% of survivors so only good game for them? I think middle mmr is fine but just harder but low mmr suffers the most. Though middle mmr has some problems ofcourse some still dc:s surpricingly my team have managed to win some of those games still.

Idek why I still continue to play this game, kinda feel forced to play the God tier killers just to actually have fun and win matches.

  • My_Aespa
    My_Aespa Member Posts: 545

The answer I think is quite obvious, because we like to play it still, we don't take it as seriously. My question to you is, why question why others like something and try to bring their mood down about it by trashing on it. We don't want to stop giving BVHR money because we actually like the game and and want it to improve, and we don't rage when things don't go our way in matches

Because ot's entertaining and every trial is its own unique slasher story.

I solo q and my games have mostly been fine! My escapes are about 45%, but my pips are very common and I'm often with team mates who at the very least want to see the game through to their demise (which is much more deserving of respect than suiciding).

Solo q absolutely needs some changes and I am a bit confused as to why it's currently not on the horizon for BHVR. However, in my experience it is far from the nightmare others have witnessed.

They enjoy it. Addiction. Sunk cost fallacy. Masochism. They had fun at one point and while they are miserable 99% of the time now they get glimpses of the fun they used to have and get hope maybe it'll be fun more often again.

These are just some reasons off the top of my head.

Theres so many aspects that make the game fun for me, simple things too. Perks, aesthetics (losing this one a bit), music, and just the way the game is setup in general.

Also props for no voice coms, I run from games with those considering most people will crap on you if you dont use them when available and I'm far too shy for even game chats with randos. It's endless lies on no mic with anxiety when I play that kinda stuff.

Other than that idk, just been very prominent in my life since I discovered it around 2017. If im not playing it, im often watching something on it, or reading stuff like the wiki/forums.

Answer is quite simple, I guess. Because people don't take this game as seriously as you obviously do.

I continue to play DbD because:

    • I still find moments of fun or joy in DbD.
    • I enjoy the chase and there is still no game out there that is a better chase game.
    • I can enjoy DbD without paying anything. I haven't spent a cent on DbD since buying the first RE chapter and am waiting for Pinhead to go 50% off before spending again. Yes, I will wait for RE2 to go on sale before buying it, Reassurance and Wesker be damned.
    • I remember a time before Rifts/Archives when DbD was on the path to greatness, instead of where it is headed now.
    • And frankly, I am addicted and invested.

I don't like DbD and BHVR. If BHVR treated DbD and the community with respect I would happily pay much more money to enjoy the game. As it stands now, if another company managed to produce a better and more polished chase game, I'd drop DbD in a heartbeat and never look back. However, competitors have yet to focus on the chase aspect enough.

The biggest issue you have is assuming you know what the community thinks. Twitter and forums exist in 2022 for people to complain and be toxic and only represent a tiny fraction of the people actually playing the game. Everyone I talk to thinks the game is in the best spot it's been in a long time and most of the games are fun these days.

People will whine nonstop on Twitter and the forums if they get camped a couple times. People rarely whine on Twitter and the forums after a bunch of great games in a row.

Solo queue is also fine when you rank up enough to consistently get paired with people that at least know the basics of the game. The biggest problem is they've effectively created an elo hell in DBD since it's quite a bit harder to carry yourself out of low MMR after the last patch.

Garbage games can still be fun to play. From a technical and balance side of things, DbD is total trash, but it's still fun to play regardless.

Aside from that: sunk cost fallacy.

Do people like OP ever get sick of griping about the same stuff over and over again?

Yes, killers have perks. Yes, they do stuff you don't like. Boo hoo. Every PvP title has foes that are supposed to stop you from doing the stuff you want. It's frustrating and alternately fun when you overcome them. If you want to play a PvE version of DBD I reckon you can play the tutorial over and over again.
