So where did this whole meme post of "DbD is a party game" start? I can't seem to find any dev quotes where they said that. (I'm not saying it never happened but I can't seem to find an actual source for it to confirm it's actually something they said.)

Well people get triggered when people call Smash Bros. a party game instead of a fighting game (it's both) so the same applies here.

Well of course because this game has no local multiplayer. But there is people that play this game with their friends online in a custom game just for fun. It's totally a party game.

I think they can't decide what it is. Honestly for most people it's a party game. Taking this game seriously is an incredibly dull way to play it for all players involved. Certain perks, addons, killers, maps are just way too silly and imbalanced to be taken seriously.
Having said that it's got potential to be a competitive game. If you play it in comp leagues or whatever that have rules? Absolutely different, the rules encourage more variety (i.e not just Blight/Nurse) while keeping the game competitive.

It is not a meme. It is just a fact. Mario Kart is a more competitive game than DBD. And I doubt people from the Mario Kart community are asking where Nintendo made that claim. Lol?

I agree, and I've even said it in another post. Dead by Daylight is a party game and here's why.
Compare it to another pvp game like Overwatch or League of Legends. There you have ranks, and matches based around those ranks. Now the people in those matches aren't always going to be of exact skill level, but within more or less 1 rank worth of skill they will. DbD is a bowl of Skittles and MnMs which you grab a fistful of, and you never know what you're going to get.
For survivors it could be a godly 4 man swf, a casual friends swf of various skill level, a mix of duos and solos, or a full solo squad some who may be good, some who may be bad. Add Discord into the mix and it's ever more random. On the killer side, with the difference in power from Nurse down to idk Trapper (debatable who the worst killer is), and difference in skill level on those characters (good/bad nurse, good/bad trapper) and how serious they play, which is random due to the casualness of this game, on top of that the weird working MMR, add saltine crackers disguised as skittles and mnms into the mix. Not even gonna talk about perks.

The source is how bad the game is designed. Imbalance was the name of the game and always will be. Trying to play this game without copius amounts of alcohol is an exercise in frustration. Solo survivor is a masochism simulator. The game feels like digital self-harm more often than not. The only time it's fun is when you have 5 people playing custom. No more sweaty people. No more ridiculously imbalanced crap. Just messing around.
This community makes League of Legends' feel like rainbows and sunshine. I can't wait for the bots to come out. I'll never touch anything but custom games again.

Don't bother, they're tediously boring. It's weird because the play is really high level, but is also painfully predictable. This is because really "high level" DBD is boring af, because DBD is really only exciting when people screw up. Optimal play isn't fun, and the rule sets definitely don't help.
I know OhTofu announced one particular series of tournaments and they are available on his YT, if you're curious (and bored).

Eh I don't mind em. It's interesting to see the game played optimally on both sides though I wouldn't take part if only because the slow in my name isn't for nothing ;). Just don't have the skills.
The point originally was that playing the game competitively on public servers is a very dull way to play it and that place is competitive which has rules in place to make it more... y'know, competitive rather then seeing the same killer/build and same survivors with the same 4 builds each over and over and over. At least the rule set forces 'some' variety and to my knowledge doesn't play on the obviously imbalanced maps.
It's annoying as hell loading into a game coming up against a Nurse with optimal perks, addons and all the rest of it against solo players and it's just like 'why do I even bother'. Vice versa also holds true of course with survivors running 4 identical optimal builds against a no addon Myers, Sadako or Trapper or something. Though some people get pleasure out of utterly destroying others who have no chance of fighting back which is pretty sad.

Yeah, I don't understand people who get off on steamrolling in this game. You get fewer points and lesser emblems, and it's just not fun. If I feel like I am on the right side of a huge mismatch, I will almost invariably take my foot well off the gas, if for no other reason than to get more BP/emblems. And I may just be soft, but I don't want to just be out there demoralizing anyone (unless they BM).
And when I go up against a fully loaded, skilled and merciless nurse, my strong inclination is to just pack it up. I won't DC/kill myself (I never DC), but I sure feel like it. It's like we're not even playing the same game.

The term eludes me, because I don't think a lack of balance is sufficient enough to make it a party game--it just means the game isn't balanced.
Party games have heavy amounts of RNG, comeback mechanics, and/or social interaction. For example, Super Smash Bros is a party game with all the RNG item spawns, but competitive when played without. Mario Kart is a party game when racing against others because of the RNG item boxes, but competitive when doing time trials.
If the game is balanced, skill will be too large a determining factor in the outcome of a trial to continue calling DBD a party game. Sure, it is sandboxy enough to play around, but the game is not inherently a 'party game.'

theres plenty of RNG in this game, like for instance, do i have 120 ping this game because nobody plays it? or do i have my standard 60 that is still bad? will i get hit when i shouldnt? FUN PARTY TIME

Dead by Daylight is too unbalanced and random for it to be ever competitive.Just the fact that maps are randomly generated is already too much random for serious competition.The maps can either make strong loops that keep chaining into eachother or the biggest deadzones you've ever seen.

Its also a dress up game, a fashion game, a hide and seek game and a generator repair simulator.
Heck, it's basically Roblox.
It's about as competitive as Fallout 76 or Lawn Mowing Simulator.

It's really not. You have to be a serious masochist to enjoy playing solo and being killed the overwhelming majority of games where you had no chance at the onset. Solo queue is an exercise in futility. It's like going to work at a job you hate. Except there's no pay and everyone is a D-bag.

You always have a chance at game onset, but if you give up that easily of course you probably aren’t going to have fun.

Sounds like a bad attitude about the game to me.
But it’s easier to blame other stuff than to fix one’s self so if you want to keep making it a miserable experience for yourself you are more than capable of doing so.

Well, congratulations on enjoying Solo Queue. It's just a sandbox playground for killers to have fun.
I personally only ever have fun in custom games where the chance of getting sweaty or toxic people in my trial is nonexistent. Cannot wait for them bots.

I realise what I’m saying is a rational view of the game which can be very confronting when all you want is to just throw a tantrum, but seriously can you not see how ridiculous you are being over a game.
Sheesh. To sum up you finish with a put your hands over your ears and say lalalalala move.
You don’t have to listen to me that’s the joy of this scenario, but you really should because right now your the kid on the floor screaming and banging host fists when you could be having fun playing a great game.
But I guess if you’re hell bent on having a miserable time then that’s what you are gonna have. Cest la vie.
