Inner Focus discussion

Next up in this set of threads devoted to perks with the lowest pick rates (based on aggregate site ratings) is Haddie's perk Inner Focus (0.07% usage)

Inner Focus - You can see other Survivors' scratch marks. Whenever another Survivor loses a health state within 32 meters of you, the Killer's aura is revealed to you for 3/4/5 seconds.

So this perk is quite weak.

  • First, the ability to see other survivor's scratch marks is basically useless. It's really hard to imagine there's a non-negligible tactical advantage of knowing another survivor has left scratches nearby. This effect adds pretty much nothing to the perk.
  • Second, only seeing the killer's aura for 5 seconds at a time and only when they damage another survivor in your vicinity is not very effective. For one thing, there's a good chance you already know the killer is there anyway since they literally just damaged someone else in earshot and probably even in your line of sight. The best this might do for you is give you a bit of extra warning to start running if you see the killer break off after they land a hit and head in your direction. But it's a pretty fleeting aura and, like I said, you probably already got other warning signs anyway.

Compare this perk to, say, Spine Chill or the new Wiretap, for example, both of which give better, more persistent tracking information on killers who are potentially in your vicinity and it's immediately apparent how weak Inner Focus is relative to those.

There are a number of ways to buff or revamp this perk to make it more enticing. You could significantly extend the duration of the aura, for example, or you could add an additional effect like while you see the aura you also have no scratch marks and make no noise, giving you time to quickly try and hide when you see the killer's aura headed your way.

Perhaps it should show your aura to the Survivor who got hit for 5 seconds as well, so it's a bit more useful. But other than that I have no idea how to make this perk actually decent.

The perk would be pretty decent if they upped the range to 128m.

How about if you could see the auras of others scratch marks
