Is it just me or is the new Killer meta worse?
I've been thinking recently and is it just me or..is the new Killer meta way,way more boring to verse?
Like previously we had Ruin Undying / PR + DMS / Pop and rarely some other gimmicky perk.
All of those were counterable to a degree and at the least required a lot of interaction by the Killer, even in 3 gen scenarios.
Now though,it feels like tons of Killers loss their early and mid game due to misplays and then carry out a war of attrition holding their 3 gen for 50 minutes with their Overcharge,Call Of Brine, Eruption & Jolt, whatever build.
Sure you can tell me "just don't get 3 gen'd lol" but I'm going to ask you - is this a healthy situation to exist in the first place?

People always say, "The last killer meta was better and took more skill" after they'd made an effort, and succeeded, to nerf that meta with their complaints about it. If you would have told people back then, "Imagine a killer meta where they can actually kick gens" people would have thought you were crazy, because it was too good to be true. People complained about matches being allegedly non-interactive and killers simply ignoring gens. Now it's "too much" that killers kick gens and get decent regression, after they've sacrificed 2-3 perk slots to get it.
I've heavily criticized this 'meta', because I think it's trumped by simply gen tapping as usual. But for the sake of argument, this was one of the few ways the killer meta could have gone, and was the most popular way from what I could tell.
Survivors should still be winning the war of attrition assuming they're being efficient. If people never win vs these builds, that's what I'm gonna be questioning. And I get that their teammates can't always be efficient because MMR for solo sucks with the teammates it gives you. But we can't make game balance of off a broken matchmaking system; we have to fix that first and foremost before we do something drastic.

It's just you, none of regression perks has been noticeably better beside eruption.
6 -
I prefer old ruin undying and pop to verse rather than brine overcharge and eruption.
As a survivor at least.
3 -
It's not about being better - it's about whether or not the gameplay it produces is more fun

You really described the new meta with the best wording: "war of attrition"
I'm not a fan of stacked slowdowns in general, so I wouldn't risk saying "old meta was better/more fun", but this new one definitely isn't fun at all

The majority of players are solo queue though. They can't really be efficient and they're not going to be even remotely considering how BHVR stated they dont have anything planned for solo survivor FOR THE NEXT YEAR.

Wesker made things much more enjoyable for me.

I think it's more fun to play but not by a huge margin.

They butchered all gen-defense or gen-regression-perks entirely (besides Corrupt and Deadlock)
What are killers supposed to run besides weaker Corrupt, Handicap-Gen-Perks or an Endgame-Build, whats the only thing is they dont have destroyed yet.
The 10% speedup for breaking pallets etc. doesnt do anything, the survivors can still easily reach the next Jungle-Gym.
So what will a Pig on Red Forest for example do? Yes, it will stay nearby the hook, it doesnt make any sense to walk 1min around to reach the other end of the map.
With Pop, u had a reason to leave and hunt other survivors, but now? All Gen-Perks work without a hook or anything.

BBQ & Chili being the most popular perk in the game was the thing that held it together imho. Incentive to go away from hook & hook different people. What they should've done in this pass is MASSIVELY buff Grim Embrace and give BBQ & Chili a secondary effect for it's 4 stacks. That would be cool

I miss first version of ruin. I would slap those great red skillchecks like crazy!

IMAGINE OLD RUIN VS HYPERFOCUS TODAY

This meta 1000% worse in terms of fun. The old meta had more counterplay. I could get off a gen at 70% in anticipation of Tinkerer, do totems, etc.
This meta actively locks you out of whatever it is you're trying to do. Eruption makes it so you can't do anything for 25 seconds and there's nothing you can do about it as a solo player as long as the killer kicked that gen. It's the 3 gen playstyle on steroids. If the killer is committed to it, you're in for a complete slog of a game.
5 -
This meta has a lot more focus on counterplay by the entire team which especially hurts solo players. vs ruin at least you personally could go cleanse bones
1 -
all of the new meta perks are just annoying to deal with and pr + dms, jolt, eruption and whatever just feel so draining to counter, it's not hard but it's also not fun
At least with ruin undying it was like okay let's all split up find the totems, the killer will get a hook or 2 until they are gone, and then we can just play a normal dbd match, now it's like oh let me go off a gen before this person is hooked, let me throw a game to tap the gen, it's just stupid.

You know what I loved about PR DMS when it came about? It had bad synergy with the current meta. It was co-existing.
Blocked gens wouldnt be kicked or regress with Ruin. I really liked that addition.

I totally agree.
Grim Embrace gives you 40sec Gen-Blocks on all gens after hooking every survivor one time. Wow, old Dead Mans Switfh gave me 45sec on the gens which are "in the making", the others werent important. Deadlock blocks 4 times per match a gen for 30secs for free.
For all your work, you gain 40secs with Grim Embrace? Thats a joke.
Grim Embrace should block all generators for at least 60secs, if not even 80.

Yeah like, it's definitely doable (playing around the new regression stacks). But it's asking a lot without any sort of comms. You need to split gens individually in the 3 gen which can be counterituitive to a less experienced player and also run every chase to the correct side, but also make sure you're running early enough to not go down near the gen cluster. Realistically, at least one player in the lobby isn't going to be aware of that or they'll mess that up a bit through lack of experience.

I definitely think it's worse. Before i ran small game so Ruin Undying was no problem. Now Eruption, Call of Brine and Jolt are perks that have no counter whatsoever.
0 -
Solo can be effient but even that is not usually enough to win 3 gen situation. The match last 1 hour and then killer finally gets someone.
0 -
Jolt has some counterplay. You can hop in a locker and it won't proc on a locker pull. But that's about it
0 -
it's simple counterplay
just dont go down pepega

Are you complaining about the "meta" or about Maps?
Cause the "meta" isn't all that much different... it's Gen Regression just like Ruin/ Undying, PR/ DMS, Pop/ (whatever other perk)
Ruin used to be 200% Gen regression until the Totem is cleansed (or Booned)... and Undying made Ruin last a bit longer
PR (has changed so much so quickly that I can't remember what it actually does) applies 15% Gen regression onto the most progressed Gen... Then DMS only activates once the Survivor(s) lets go of the Gen(s) after a Hook
Pop made Kicking a Gen (after Hooking a Survivor) applies 25% Gen regression (if the Killer kicks a Gen within 30 seconds)
But then getting 3 Genned is a Map design issue (also it depends on which side notices it first)

what does this even mean

We've got to adapt then. Maybe the goal isn't to get everyone out, but to escape ourselves. I run Resilience/Adrenaline in solo in the hopes that that's enough to get me out those gates. Sometimes it doesn't work because my team is uncarryable, but other times it's given me success. As long as people are efficient on gens, it shouldn't be impossible to escape in solo. I've done 2-3 gens by myself in some of these matches, and if just 1 other person on my team is playing as well as that, we're outta there.

I will always prefer simply being able to tap a gen over basically not being able to play the game until I find and cleanse two totems. It was awful. People will just complain about anything. Aura perks are also more popular than ever.

The fun is in optimizing the game and playing well for some people. And people who are wired to be competitive by nature are going to find winning fun. It's why some would like to see a ranked mode. It isn't fun for me when I'm trying to speedrun the round on survivor and two teammates are only there to reset pallets for a challenge.

The more active regression got dumpstered in 6.1.0(I don't think I've seen a single ruin), what exactly is your suggestion OP? 3 gens will always exist, unless you widen the maps by a very large degree and that will run counter to every single map redesign they have pushed out. The only other option is dumpstering the passive regression/kicking perks which I don't think you'll find much support for.
You could also just run hyperfocus + stakeout + toolbox and smash out one of those gens in 45 seconds when you notice your team is starting to build towards a 3 gen.
2 -
Eruption needs to go. 25 seconds of doing nothing is not good game design. There's no reasonable way to counter it without being in comms and having a teammate tell you they're about to go down.
