Could we end up with an even stronger emphasis on gen regression after the anti slugging update?

If killers can't slug anymore (which based on the update notes might be the case) then they are more likely to just pick up and go for hook. some survivors will pick up on this and start going to disrupt those hook attempts. Assuming even a quarter of them get good at it, there's a chance killers will start wanting to bide for time in ways outside of forcing survivors to go for a rescue. Ergo, they start gen regression to undo the progress survivors make on gens to get a little extra time.

This is just my theory on what might happen. what do you all think of this theory? I'd love to hear your opinions on it, and hopefully examples of why I'm wrong. (seriously, I don't want a gen regression meta- please prove me wrong).

Maybe in SWF but then SWF are already doing sabo builds. I don’t think it’s going to change anything for solo queue at all. I tried running a sabo build in solo queue and it totally failed. Without the ability to communicate with other survivors and basically plan where you’ll go down, it’s virtually impossible to really make a sabo build work.

Yes, but I'm worried that the update will make it worse. sort of like throwing gasoline on an already big fire.

It all depends on what the Killer wants to run

Gen Regression or something to counter whatever playstyles come out of the Survivor side

I'm worried that survivors will focus on preventing hooks at all. After all, if you can get up after being downed, you can do riskier plays as long your teammates can prevent you from being hooked. just pester killer until the survivor they didn't pick up manages to escape. rinse and repeat while someone does gens. The best way to counter this is gen regression. There is a good chance that if multiple people pester the killer, the killer will at best only be able to hook one survivor before the other gets up due to the changes and the new unbreakable. Meanwhile if you reduce gen repair speed or reduce the progress, than you can afford to take your time hooking each survivor. This will lead to solo-q getting left behind again as they can't keep up with the increased gen times nor can they effectively pick up others or distract killer.

When swf do something, killers tend to respond to counter it- which is usually a counter that becomes oppressive against solo-q. For example, the mori changes and such would incentivize survivors to distract and sabo against killer more than they already do. Killers will come up with better counters against the swf strategies to prevent their new playstyles from totally dominating, which are often more than enough to totally dominate solo-q players that can't pull off similar strategies. In this case gen regression would give killer more time to catch and confirm hooks on survivors, which would help with confirming hooks on solo-q players that have much less ability to evade hooking or even doing generators as fast in the first place.

Basically: Killers and swf adapt to each other, Solo-q struggles to do that leaving them further behind both.

Can't we get rid of gen speed/slow stuff so the game can be chase-based?

I genuinely wonder sometimes what people think survivors are supposed to be doing in this game. They're either working on the objective (gens), interacting with the killer, or idle/afk.

Working on the objective in any capacity is 'gen rushing' and a huge no no. Apparently not doing gens and being altruistic is also heinous and game breaking. So, you just want NPC survivors that sit idle until you're ready to deal with them?

Sabo builds already exist in SWF, yes it might get worse with the upcoming change.

However, it can be easily addressed if it goes out of control (Less spawn time, more hooks, etc.).

Come on, We all wanted a change. Game has been stale for YEARS, any change should be welcomed other than some perk buffs/nerfs.

I believe this will shake the playstyle of games a bit but am hoping for more. TBH i haven't touched the game in like 2 weeks coz it got really boring after 4 years playing, so who knows.

Yes there are perks that don't need hooks but there are some perks that do rely on hooks

so 50/50 again it all depends on how the Killer wants to fight the "new" mechanic... and how Survivors use the "new" mechanic
