Fan Chapter: Arcane Wisdom (Killer and Survivor Idea)

Hello hello, here is my next fan chapter! I want another chapter like Roots of Dread, where we had an original non-human killer. I had a fun idea that I wanted to share! The Dragon’s lore is based around the mystic monks that the Blight had met in his lore! also no map for this chapter cuz…I couldn’t think of a good one…

Killer: The Dragon

Name: unknown

Aliases: The Waniguchi

Gender: Not applicable (not human)

Nationality: None (possessed object)

Realm: -

Power: Transcendental Vibrations

Weapon: Clawed Mallet

Speed: 4.4/110%

Terror Radius: 30 meters

Height: Tall

Appearance: The Dragon is a possessed hollow gong with a reptile like body. It’s “head” is a huge bronze bell-like gong, the “mouth” of the hollow gong is filled with razor sharp teeth with a glowing blue light from within. The gong’s design shows spider-like pattern going across it with strange flowers all over it and arcane symbols etched around the edges. It’s right “arm” is the large mallet that was used to strike the gong, the wooden staff  broken to pieces, but held together by black mist. It’s “hand” is made of the head of the mallet, sharp claws made of black mist. It’s other “arm” is the rope that was used to hang the gong up, the long red rope is now seeping with black mist, it’s “hand” is a twisted loop with sharp claws.  The rest of its “body” is also made of black mist, but condensed itself enough to take the form of a sleek serpent. Black scales glisten against the light, it’s short body as no legs but instead ends into a tail. The tail ends with a black flame that sizzles out into more black mist.

Background

In the early 1800s an experiment was done. A group of monks of a mystic school spent a century discovering and deciphering ancient texts. Their research told them of the power of the Mind’s eye and with the right vibration, they can open doors to new worlds. A way to connect humanity to world’s unknown. They felt perhaps humanity was finally ready to open those doors. They went to work, starting in the forge, they crafted a beauty bronze gong, a waniguichi, and then carved lines from their forbidden texts on to it. Once the gong was ready, they readied the chaitya, covering the windows, painted arcane symbols on their foreheads, and ejecting a small amount of their Soul Chemical into their veins. The halls were soon filled with a chorus of chants, the gong struck at the end of each chorus. The booming sounds echoed across the school as they continued. But then the chants were cut off as the gong suddenly cracked, the symbols they carved on to the bronze glowing molten hot. The mystics watched as the bronze cracked to pieces. Amazed as what they saw, the Mystics quickly made note of it, and tried again. They fashioned another, larger gong and repeated the ritual, this time adding more elaborate designs along with the texts. But just as before, the gong soon cracked to pieces yet again, breaking apart along with some of the hope of the Mystics. All of the men of the school were stumped. Each believed they were doing the ritual correct, but not sure why it kept failing. The Mystics spends weeks studying, trying to figure out what went wrong when they finally found a possible solution. The young student managed to decipher something within the text, something that was mistranslated. “A Sacrifice Is The Key To Doors Unknown” The Mystics were…unsure about this requirement. But it was indeed what the texts were saying. More weeks passed as they discussed what they will do. Finally the two eldest Mystics spoke up, offering themselves as the sacrifice that is needed for the ritual to be completed. The offer was shocking and horrifying to consider, but eventually the agreement was made. The young Mystic whisper is thank you to the elders, promising them they will bring mankind to a new stage of enlightenment. With that, the elders’s throats were slit, their blood drained into the bronze mixture. The Mystics took care in also extracting the Soul Chemical from the pineal glands. Once their bodies were drained and respectfully buried in gardens, they finished the gong. The gong was even larger than before, and the Mystics took care in designing the gong to be beautiful and careful carve in the arcane symbols. Once the gong was complete, they started the ritual again. The halls were soon filled with a chorus of chants, that bellowed across the monastery. When they struck the gong, the sound pierced the air, the sound shook everyone in the room to their core, feeling every vibration move across their skins. This had to be it, this had to be the right vibrations! They continue, with their chanting, fueled by the effects of the Soul Chemical, their chants almost became hysterical. The beating of the gong grew louder and louder, the vibrations overtaking everyone in the room. The air seem to grow heavy as they chorus of sound grew older and louder. Outside, behind their covered windows, a black mist began forming around the school, closing in quickly. The young Mystic, who was striking the gong, went to strike the gong again, when the rope of the gong suddenly snapped, and the gong fell. The chants were cut off into surprised gasps and yells, but even those sounds melted into stunned silence. The gong never made it to the floor. The floated suspended a merry few inches from the ground. The Young Mystic stepped forward to investigate when the windows of the prayer hall suddenly shattered. The black mist filled the room, making the Mystics shout in shock and surprise. The black mist went straight for the gong, pouring into the metal slit. The symbols and designs glowed a hot red as the gong lifted itself higher, the black mist swirling inside. The Mystics stares of amazement, soon turn to fear as the metal around the slit began to warp. One by one, razor sharp fangs began to appear from the gong’s opening, the slit stretching and opening, like a mouth trying to function. The black mist began to pour from the gong and form itself underneath it. The mist thickened and hardened, becoming a black mass eventually becoming as serpent-like body, black scales shimmer in the candlelight of the prayer hall. The tail formed and erupted in a black fire that poured out more black mist. The Young Mystic let out a surprise cry as he was lunged forward, the mallet he was holding yanked from his hands. As the same moment, the broken rope that held the gong up as ripped down and flung toward the creature. The mallet and rope flew against the creature’s body and took shake. The black mist wrapped around the wooden staff of the mallet, cracking the wood to pieces, only to sew it back together with the mist. The mallet’s head was wrapped in the mist, the mist quickly forming around the metal orb, becoming jagged claws. The rope was mended by the mist, the mist weaving through the fibers. The end of the rope formed a loop that was also formed with black claws. The creature’s transformation was complete and it at first just stood there, balancing on its long body. The Mystics stared in horror, each of them wondering if they have gone too far. Suddenly the creature’s “head” began to slowly turn, invisible eyes seem to analyze everyone in the room. Finally the creature stopped, facing directly at the youngest Mystic. Before anything could be said or done, the creatures lunge forward, it’s rope like claw lashing out and gripping the young man. The mystics screamed as the creature pulled him to its oversized mouth and bit down, the screamed soon echoing inside the bronze head. The other mystics went into a full stage of panic as they try to either escape or save their young brethren. But any attempts to help were met will a fierce swipe of the creature’s claw-like  mallet. Eventually the young man’s screamed died out and the other knew it was too late. The young man’s body flop out of the creature’s mouth, the creature fangs having with him chest and neck open. The creature seem to watch everyone in the room again carefully, each of the remaining mystics looking absolutely fearful. But then the creature raises its mallet claw and carefully strike it against its bronze head. The booming sounds to the gong echoed across the hall the air behind the creature shimmered and seem to almost melt. The creature gave another carefully analyzed look to the Mystics with its invisible eyes before turning, it’s body melting away in the shimmering air. The air cleared up and the hall was left with silence. The Mystics went to work, cleaning up the body of their young brother and sealing off the prayer hall. The young mystic was buried with the other elders. For a while the ancient texts were locked up, not to be touched, but eventually the nine remaining Mystics began their research again. Only this time there was a strong air of caution. Their ambition led to so much death and blood. Perhaps this was a sign, that humanity was not ready to open the doors to unknown. The Mystics can only hope that maybe one day humanity would be and they will be able to provide both the knowledge and wisdom when ready.

Survivor: Connor O’Dwyer

Role: Backpacking Wanderer

Gender: Male

Nationality/Ethnicity: Irish

Appearance: Connor is an older man with messy/curly black hair, a black ducktail beard, and pale skin. He wears wears a yellow, puffy jacket, black rain pants and brown boots. He also wears a black neck gaiter, yellow framed sunglasses, black fingerless gloves and carries a huge brown backpack with a yellow sleeping bag tied to the base. Along his fingered you can see scars from Burns. His right eye is glossed over, with small scars over it.

Backstory: Connor was born into a family with high expectations. They wanted their only don to be the best. Connor was pushed through school with the best grades, eventually entering college and later med-school. Just like how his parents wanted it. Connor graduated top of his class, gaining his PHD and becoming a surgeon. Life was…ok for Connor. He passively went through everything, wanting his parents to be proud of him. But as life went on, Connor found himself more and more less interested in it. So perhaps that might be the reason when he accidentally mixed up two x-rays. One patient had his tumor misdiagnosed as a cyst and it was too late to get the proper treatment. The day came after work Connor was walking to his car when the man appear to him, striking a conversation. At first the conversation seem rather normal, but slowly the man became more bitter and agitated with Connor, blaming his soon to be death in Connor’s carelessness. The smell of gasoline suddenly hit Connor as he realize his car was leaking it. Connor barely had a time to take a step back as the man pulled out a lighter, lighting it before dropping it. The gasoline ignited, the car going into a massive explosion. The man was killed instantly in the explosion, with Connor thrown back several feet away from it. But by some miracle, Connor had survived it. Just barely. The explosion had damage it right eye, becoming somewhat blind in it. The explosion severely damage his hands, burning them horribly. It’s a miracle in itself that his hands were not amputated. Long days of surgeries were done to try to repair the nerves in his hands and regain any use of them. While Connor managed to regain some feelings and motor control in his hands, he was told he would never be allow to perform any surgery again. This, for his career, didn’t effect much as he was still able to do his other duties as physician. But to Connor, this changed everything. In an instant, his life nearly ended over something he already didn’t really enjoy. He quit his job, cut contact with his parents, sold his house and much of his belongings and bought stuff he was going to need. Life was too short and he spent way too much of it in his hometown of Dublin. With his backpack and his own two feet, he set off to explore the world. He traveled through Europe, seeing the sights of The Floating City, The City of Light, The Spa City, and more. Making his way around, his journey took through The Middle East, Africa, East Asia and finally through Southern Asia. He was off the coast of India when he heard a story of an old monastery near Dyer Island that was supposedly abandoned, never to be touched again due to some superstition of it being unlucky. Deciding to test his luck, Connor made his way toward the abandoned monastery. The trip toward the island wasn’t long as all, though finding the monastery was difficult. Most people seem to never heard of it. After a few days of hiking through forested he was about to give up when he saw it. The beautifully crafted stupa barely hidden by huge moss covered walls. After walking around the structure, he found a small opening. Squeezing himself inside, he was pleasantly surprised to find how everything was mostly still standing. The cloister was huge with the gardens being overgrown and thriving. He walked through the gardens, smiling to himself as he notice a group of crows pecking at some berries. Pulling out some of his snacks, he gently tossed them toward the crows, hearing delighted squawks in return. The pathways connected to multiple different buildings, however one caught his attention. One of the larger buildings had its doors barricaded with wooden boards on iron brackets. After removing the boards, Connor pushed the doors open. What he found, he must’ve guessed was some prayer hall. A church or temple or whatever. He walked through the prayer hall, his footsteps echoing across the room. He can see the place haven’t been touch in so long, his very presence instantly disturbed the long silence this place have been in. Over near the rounded apse, he found the floor was stained red. Feeling a sense of unease, Connor began to backtrack his way out of the hall when the air suddenly became thick. The air seem to shimmer and his skin prickled, feeling as if something was traveling over it. The hair on the back of his neck stood in end as the vibrations going through his body worsen with every step. He glance back through the shimmering air and saw something that boggled his mind. A group of people stood, watching in horror as a monster spat out the body of a young man on to the red stained floor. Connor hurried his pace, making his way back outside only to met with more sights. A trip of monks chatting with each other walked by and instantly disappeared. Two graves being dug up with two older men being placed in them. An unkept younger man reading through countless scrolls over by the gardens. The same man excitedly chattering his discoveries to the monks, their faces slowly growing concern as the younger man went on. The monks dragging away a squirming body with a sack over his head. Different scenes of what must’ve happened within these walls constantly playing and replaying in front of Connor’s eyes and the air grew even thicker. A sickness quickly overtook Connor and he made a beeline for the entrance he came from. After it stumbling out of the monastery, Connor’s stomach released its contents, puking of his stress all over the forest floor. When he finally stopped, Connor looked around and found that the monastery was gone. Did he imagine all of this? Stumbling to his feet, he slowly made his way to find the path back to the shore. But he couldn’t find the path. None of the trees here actually looked familiar now that Connor looked. Over in the distance he can finally see something: a camp fire. Deciding that might be his best option, he made his way over.
