How the nightmare should be
No introduction is needed. Freddy is the worst designed killer for both sides. He’s boring to play as and against. His power doesn’t make him feel like Freddy and it’s incredibly basic but in a bad way. As survivor it’s boring and frustrating cause of his annoying anti loop. @GeneralV and @Marik1987 i need your honest opinions on my rework to Freddy since you main them. Here’s how I would rework Freddy while still keeping him viable and making him more like Freddy.
Power | Dream DeMon
Dream Demon allows The Nightmare to pull survivors into the dream world. The nightmare has a 16 meter lullaby for awake survivors and a 32 meter terror radius for dream world.
- Survivors who are awake do not see the nightmare.
- Once targeted by the nightmares power. Survivors enter the dream transition for 7 seconds.
- During the dream transition survivors suffer from the incapacitated status effect and they can see the nightmare intermittently. The nightmare can damage survivors when in the dream transition.
- When the dream transition lapse, survivors are pulled into the dream world.
Once in the Dream World:
- Survivors can be affected by the nightmares powers.
- Survivors can exit the dream world by failing skillchecks, having a awake survivor preform the wake up action or by using alarm clocks. Any alarm clock can be used. The alarm clocks can only be used when outside of Freddy’s terror radius.
tap the active ability button to switch between the Dream Pallets, Dream Breakable walls, Dream Totems, Dream projection and pull into dreams.
Special ability | Dream Pallets
Press and hold the power button to place a dream pallet at an available location. A dream pallet dropped by a Survivor will be destroyed immediately and not stun The Nightmare.
Special ability | Dream breakable walls
press and hold the power button to place a dream breakable wall at an available location. Awake survivors won’t see it. Sleeping survivors won’t be able to pass through it as if it was a real wall.
Special ability | Dream totems
press and hold the power button to place a dream totem at an available location. Survivors who cleanse or bless a dream totem will scream revealing there location to the nightmare. (Note doesn’t work with pentimento)
Special Ability | dream projection
Hold the active ability button to teleport to a generator in your view. For each survivor sleeping the cooldown is reduced by 15%.

I will do the addon rework soon. This took a long time to do. I’ll make a updated post with addons.

So the issue with Freddy not being able to effect Survivors outside of the dream world, by having to "pull" them into it first, means he cannot defend ANYTHING against awake Survivors. Things as basic as gens and totems. You have to literally sit and watch as they cleanse your totem because you can't stop it for 7 seconds.
I honestly used to agree with you a lot about Freddy, and I do still believe he is kinda badly designed and could use some work, but as he stands right now with his power I actually feel like it's okay, and I came to this opinion by deciding to really dig into him and give him a real go. Freddy's true power is in his dream state. He becomes a stealth Killer, and honestly quite a big threat. Learning how to use the lullaby into giving the survivors a false sense of safety since they believe they have been "tipped off" by it is a huge Boon, and honestly it's the same with Huntress. Survivors who assume any kind of safety from the lullaby are IMO, bad Survivors. The lack of a red light, and the ability to be literally anywhere within the lullaby is fairly dangerous.
His snares aren't the strongest thing ever, but I don't really think they are used as an anti-loop power as much as an information ability. It's like when Trapper traps someone across the map, they are probably fine and out of the trap by the time you arrive, only Freddy can actually teleport across the map rather than walk there. His dream pallets should be basekit IMO, and his add-ons should be redone to remove the focus of punishing Survivors who fail skill checks, since most Survivors aren't planning on failing skill checks just to get out of the dream world, ESPECIALLY considering that they will most likely be punished by his add-ons for it.
While his current iteration, the TR while their awake, and lullaby when they are asleep aren't exactly optimal or what I would like to see, I agree with them on why it's like that after playing him a bit. He can't really take advantages of certain perks like normal Killer's, which is sad and puts him into the same boat as The Twins but its just a sad reality of how his kit works.
I suggest giving Freddy an honest to God go. I recommend aura reading perks, such as I'm All Ears and Floods of Rage to try and utilize the advantages the lack of a directional TR gives him, so you can better understand it.

Combining dream pallets and dream projection to his old power is a cool idea, but has the problem of being even weaker than the current version. Waiting 7 seconds to hit anyone used to be a pretty big drawback for Freddy, and the stuff that were supposed to compensate for it were the insanely high gen speed reduction (50%) and the long range aura reading. Freddy without that, without the dream snares but still unable to hit awake survivors would be the weakest killer in the game.
Anyway, this 7 seconds drawback is never coming back. Sure, the current Freddy is boring, but there is a good reason why old Freddy got reworked. For most of the community, having to wait 7 seconds to even be able to hit a survivor for an effect that wouldn't even affect the chase after that (and could be quickly removed by the skillcheck RNG) was frustrating as hell. Freddy got reworked after more than a year of complaints about him being too weak and too frustrating. When the changes got announced in an anniversary stream, the first thing the devs mentioned was that Freddy was finally able to hit survivors right away and that not being able to do so was frustrating.

To be fair, this reads alot like old freddy but with more stuff and no inherent slowdown

Yep i stop reading there. Old freddy was so bad, nothing remotely close to old freddy can be good even with buffs.

Thats not true, good ol jumpscare freddy got me to rank 1 often

Robert Englund.

I hope you are joking, old freddy was trash, i have looped freddy's in the past for 5 gens and that tell a lot about how weak he was.. Btw everybody eventually reached rank 1 in the past, it wasn't that hard, that why that rank system was scrapped.

This.. actually sounds worse than current Freddy.
His only power in this incarnation is to trick you into being dumb occasionally. He can't actually DO anything in a chase, even current Freddy has the snares. As limited as those are.

Just revert his unnceseary nerfs and make his addons unique. He doesnt needs a huge rework.

Interesting idea combining his old and new powers together, however this does seem weaker than his current version.
Honestly all Freddy really needs is a complete add on rework and then either making his both snares and pallets base kit or let you choose which one you want to use without using up an add on slot.

First of all, I really thank you for triggering me and asking for my honest opinion.
I will make it short: it sounds really fun! I think he shouldnt be able to hit survivors outside the dream like OG Freddy, that should be restored (if they go for a full rework).
However, 7 seconds Transition for u doing nothing and too easy waking up has to be changed. Survivors need a hard time for waking up them, so failed skillchecks are NOT waking up anymore. On top of that, it should be far less than 7 seconds waiting time basekit, with an addon you could reduce this even further. This was his major weakness in the OG-Version., waiting and Self-Care-Failing-Skillchecks.
Instead, only clocks and awake survivors can wake them up.
The current immunity from clocks need to go.
Different fake-options are great in low-mmr, but I think he should get something else IN YOUR CONCEPT.
Main Goal as Killer: have them in Dream over and over
Main Goal as Survivor: awake, because Dreamworld is a frightening place you dont want to be
With addons, Transition-Time reduces, Dream Projection-Cooldown reduces, Aura-Reading from OG Freddy etc.
This sounds like a unique and fun kit.

I forgot to mention this in the rework when you put survivors to sleep you don’t need to wait you can damage them as soon as there affected by the dream power you don’t need to wait 7 seconds

Sadly he wasnt. Not saying he was the best by a long shot, but he wasn't as awful as everyone decries.

A lot of interesting ideas. Well done coming up with all these. Would love to see some in the game.
I believe there are too many Special abilities to juggle with. It would be very frustrating to deal with at times. It should at least be possible to bind each ability to a key, but that wouldn’t work with console.
I hope for a Freddy buff soon, he deserves it.
