Is it wrong if you deliberately tunnel a survivor who has the bad ping/lag spike symbol
I think I *sort of* did this earlier as legion. Chained a hit on them at the start (they were afk but I saw them with Lethal). As the match progressed, they came back and played normally, though they had the red ping/lag issue symbol next to their name for most of the match. Out of situational necessity, (other survivors being in strong areas, not finding anyone else, etc.) I kind of had to tunnel them, but I felt bad since I figured they were probably at a disadvantage from the lag.
I know this maybe isn't exactly the situation I'm asking about in the title, but it made me think of this hypothetical scenario: Could someone be banned for intentionally hard tunneling someone who they know is lagging and at a disadvantage?

If anything, that might be a bad idea to try and do deliberately. Very laggy survivors are prone to suddenly warping away because your game is extrapolating their movement from outdated information, only to get a refresh and update to their actual position, which was in a totally different direction. They can be very hard to hit.

Its never wrong to tunnel.
Dont listen to this games community too much. They have a little twisted idea about whats allowed/toxic and whats not.
8 -
why are you feeling bad for doing your objective? it's like saying that survivors are sorry for doing generators instead of giving free kills for the killer... i can understand if you are against newcomers that actually treat this game like an actual horror game (LOL), but with regular players? not a chance
3 -
I think that is legit, it happened to me......This is very unusual for myself as connection is not an issue however i found myself in a game where i was lagging like hell at between 700 / 1000 ping and the killer seemed to tunnel me out very intentionally because of that which i think was fair enough and the right thing to do. it wasn't all that easy for them and what i was all over the place.
One thing that may help is actually being able to see your ping in time, often by the time you get to see what your ping is pre game its to late and everybody has readied up and you cannot back out

You got a scummy attitude, tunnelling because your that desperate to win is pathetic, killer is the the dominant role in the game and good killers dictate the pace and the tone of the game far more than survivors. Good killers should dish out fun competitive games instead of depressing must win at all cost boring snoozefests.
6 -
Survivors don't seem to care about killer's fun tho.
8 -
Survivors don't dictate how the game plays out in the same way a killer can
8 -
Survivors seem to dictate "camp, tunnel" even when 1 person dies at 6 hooks in the game if I remember correctly.
Let's not derail the discussion tho.
3 -
It's interesting that you feel entitled enough to declare how killers "should" play the game. You do know that The Survivor Rulebook isn't an actual thing, right?
People can play however they like and what determines if they are good at it is how successful they are.
5 -
I've played this game for many years, i know all about dumb ######### like "survivor rulebook" etc
People like you should realise its a game, games are meant to be fun
Killers has be made incredibly easy in recent patch's, there's just no excuse for playing like a desperate loser as killer
7 -
Explain to me in simple terms exactly what part of my message is scummy?
2 -
You didn't cause the survivors lag. Why give them a free pass for something you have no control over? Kill them all!
0 -
It is wrong to tunnel if you are deliberately doing it with the intention of making your opponent miserable. It might not be punished, but it’s wrong.
It’s also wrong to tunnel if you’re doing it because of discrimination. For example, they have a pride charm, you don’t like their stance on LGBT and decide to tunnel them because of it, it’s wrong and can be punished if you admit it in chat.
Its never wrong to tunnel if you think it’ll help you win.
5 -
Agreed. Its so simple but somehow some players get their heads so twisted and deluded that they think playing the game is toxic and a bannable offense.
3 -
There's nothing wrong with tunneling. Anyone who says there is, just wants an easier chance to win.
5 -
In simple terms, you seem to be saying that doing whatever it takes win is OK even if that gives your fellow game players bad experience.
You say "Its never wrong to tunnel." I say your wrong, being that desperate to win a game of DBD is tragic, tunnelling has long been regarded as a scummy tactic in DBD even by some of those that do it.
4 -
It's a PvP game. Neither side is required to make sure their opponent is having a good time.
5 -
So now that you failed to come up with a single reason why its scummy other than i see it as scummy, i invite you to reconsider. You'll be better off in the long run if you stop with this us/them nonsense.
1 -
It’s because their killer experience is limited and have never played long enough to face competent survivors. They just thought “oh killer is easy I can stomp them so fast!” And think they need nerfs.
Either that or they’re just bad at survivor and want the devs to hold their hands while disparaging the killer player for trying to win and not handicapping themselves.
3 -
That is such a sorry pathetic mantra among some in the DBD community
2 -
The onus is on the devs to make sure their customers are having fun, not the players.
It’s pathetic that players think they can dictate how their opponents should play the game and demand they “take it easy” on them.
5 -
??????? i gave you as simple an explanation as i could, i cant go any simpler, im sorry
I have no idea why you are saying "You'll be better off in the long run if you stop with this us/them nonsense"
I play both sides, i like to play in a fun completive style as killer, sweating my ass off to win a game of DBD at the expense having fun and giving other players a good time is weird to me.
2 -
You don't understand DBD very well if you don't understand that the killer and how they play dictates the way the game plays out, the killer by the nature of the game design is far more influential than the survivor role
2 -
You don't understand pvp games.
It's not required that your opponent plays worse just because it's more fun for you.
3 -
You gave me nothing more concrete than its seen as scummy which is a little flimsy.
I didnt say anything about the whatever it takes win is OK part. Because considering playing to win to be toxic is a little absurd.
Please take a look at what you are saying and consider if its a little on the flimsy side or not.
3 -
Killer can win without tunneling but can survivors win without doing gens?
4 -
You don’t understand DBD very well if you don’t understand that competent survivors and how they play dictates the way the game plays out. Competent survivors, by the very nature of the game design are more influential than the killer role.
4 -
I did not say anywhere that anybody should play worse, you don't understand DBD and how it is different to most other pvp games
0 -
nonsense
1 -
I done responding to you, your taking every comment in bad faith
0 -
Tunneling itself is not "wrong". Its not a good experience for the survivor who gets tunneled, but its not a foul or anything. So the answer is: no, play as u want.
4 -
…hm. Weren’t you one of those killers complaining after patch 6.1.0 about DCs and hook suicides because it ‘ruined the game (fun)’ for others?
0 -
At least i tried. Here is to hoping one day you can actually question yourself.
2 -
I also play survivor and find it far more annoying having my teammates rage quit perfectly winnable games. When playing killer I laugh at most instances of survivors d/cing and I hardly care if someone decides to let themselves die on hook.
1 -
Wanting killers to not tunnel is wanting killers to intentionally play worse.
I do understand dbd, because it's a 1v4 pvp game where the 1 is trying to kill the 4 survivors. There's no reward for going around hooking every survivor "fairly". A 4K where you tunnel out a survivor and a 4K where you 12 hook all survivors are effectively treated the same by the game so there's no reason to make the game more difficult for yourself.
1 -
Mmkay. But you complained about it specifically because it affected the experience (enjoyment) of other players. And yet here you are stating that killers aren’t responsible for the fun of survivors—which is totally true. It’s just.. lol, nvm. Thanks for your response, Crowman.
2 -
I specifically stated that your opponent is not responsible for your fun. When you are playing on a team. you do have some responsibility aiding the team towards the common goal.
What would be hypocritical would be if I got mad at the killer for not farming out if fellow survivors rage quit, because they have no responsibility to do so.
2 -
You’re producing illogical caveats to defend a bunkum position. No player should be responsible for another player’s fun (in any game, and I can’t really think of any besides this one where that’s at all even close to being a thing), and the tagline for survivors is “play together or selfishly.” So…?
0 -
Okay so those "toxic gen rushers" the killer community complains about is gibberish because that's the survivor's objective... doing gens. I win all of my killer games without tunneling, it's just something killers do if they suck at applying map pressure.
1 -
Yes toxic gen rushers is the exact same sort of nonsense. There is no such thing as genrushing.
And good for you buddy, im glad you are good at the game : D
0 -
There's nothing illogical here.
Your opponent is not responsible for your fun.
Other survivors when you are playing survivor are responsible for completing the objective. Survivors rage quitting are abandoning their responsibility towards the game they queued for.
If killers want to camp or tunnel, they are playing the game within the rules.
If survivors want to genrush, or sabotage hooks, go for flashlight saves, etc, they are playing the game within the rules.
If survivors or killers want to d/c, they get punished because the devs don't want people just rage quitting whenever things don't go their way. It's fine to be upset about this since it's not intended gameplay that people just quit mid match.
As for suiciding on hooks that's a gray area. I certainly don't like when my teammates instant suicide over finding out the killer is legion or nurse. But in situations like being the 2nd to last survivor remaining dying on hook to give the last survivor a chance at hatch is fine.
You seem more intent on trying to fish out a gotcha instead of looking at the merit of what is being talked about.
There is nothing wrong with the playing game as long as it's within rules set by the game. Rage quitting is not playing the game.
1 -
Stop tunneling your gens.
You need to stop doing the gen at 33% then move to another gen and do that until all gens are at 33%. Then start working them all to 66%, then get them all to 100%.
Thats the scenario you are saying needs to
1 -
Thanks, hopefully I am with 2.7k hours. And I agree, no such things as gen rushing, but you aren't improving your skill if you just tunnel vision one survivor out and not applying map pressure. It's much more fun if you're actually a skillful player and have something to show off other than "I can follow a survivor I'm always faster than and continuously hook them until they die".
3 -
Oh hey i agree completely again, its a crutch : D And well whats fun depends on the person playing so im certain some people find it fun.
So, there is nothing toxic or inherently bad about tunneling and if a person thinks tunneling is fun, they should go ahead and tunnel. It is most definitely a crutch though.
1 -
Damn, you should become a stand-up comedian with those jokes
2 -
You can't tunnel gens and if survivors would have to do that there should be 4 gens but killer would obviously kick and make them regress to 0%. But you never lose hooks as killer imagine hooking someone twice but then they would go back to zero hooks if survivors would do certain action.
1 -
You do tunnel gens. You keep going after the same one over and over until its finished. You are doing the objective and being persistent on that objective.
Its a direct comparison to tunneling from a killer. My objective is to kill survivors. If I go for the same survivor over and over, I can remove it from my objective list. The survivor can get healed and I have more work to knock them down again.
I think the community need to start talking about survivors tunneling gens.
1 -
I somewhat agree. It can be a crutch if the killer has limited skills and isn't working on expanding his skill set.
Overall its more of a tool in the toolbox for the right applications.
0 -
technically yes, but only one of them (hatch)... also no, at certain levels killers CAN'T win if they don't tunnel because you can't make enough "pressure" even if you didn't mistakes (it's a lot more easier manage 3 survivors than 4 and those are facts, you like it or not). try to win a match against good survivors with an average killer without resorting to tunneling and camping even once if you don't believe me...

I bought the game, I’ll play how I want x
