It is not BHVRs fault that SoloQ (and killer sometimes) is unplayable. It is the player base.
Hello Friends. I know, many people are talking about how bad SoloQ is and what not. But after the last 3 weeks of playing Survivor SoloQ instead of Killer I came to the conclusion, that it is the players who make it miserable in every single game and I think.
I mean, there are solutions that will come, like the new HUD which will give you more information on what the others are doing right now. It will only work, if the players look at it and process the information in a strategic way. And I think this will not happen. First of all, there are perks in this game that give you information and I do not see them equiped too much. Even when every single survivor is a SoloQ, they will still equip the usual meta, the perks that give only them an advantage.
I started to equip perks that would give me information, like Bond or Aftercare, so I would gain an advantage through knowing what the other players are doing. Oh boy, I want to DC nearly every game when I see what the others are doing. Hiding in corners, doing some side quests when the killer is sweaty and of course, not doing gens if they could. People who have not been hooked once hiding the whole game, not doing gens and then watching you die rather than doing something useful. Trolls, who are sandbagging and blocking you for simply putting up a boon, clicking at you with their flashlight, trying to command you the whole match. I stopped putting up boon CoH against legion, because the other survivors will just heal over and over again and not do gens and we all would die at 4 gens.
And then you get hooked and nobodys coming for you. No, rather they are t-bagging at the exit gate for a minute then trying to help someone else. Then there are the DCs, which are just common now and you have to prepare yourself to loose one teammate at the beginning, because they got downed first.
And if you survived you get flamed in endgame chat for some bs. Or the killer wil get flamed for some bs. And then you do not even want to play killer, because people are mean to you again. I was doing a dayli the other day and I did not do too well with the killer. All survivors got out, but that was okay for me, they did better. But no, they cannot let you go to another match. I got flamed for doing so poorly.
It does not have to be that way. The players could be nicer, could actually play like a team but they activly choose not to. I think the new HUD is a good idea, but I am predicting that it will not get better in game. If the mmr is still existing ( I doubt that), than the only solution I see is for BHVR to make it more complex and base it on the emblem points you get instead of kill and survive only.

Yes let us curse human ignorance and newbish behavior instead of addressing the things we can to integrate players into the game better.

Player's fault or not, we still need means to communicate to other players what you're doing and what you're planning on doing. Without proper communication you will not be able to tell the others what they should do at any given moment.
Yes some will still hide and crouch all game, but usually it's because they don't know what to do. Can we get the solo q buff before we start blaming each other?

I can confirm all of this but it gets better the higher you get in mmr.

There's no real learning environment for dbd as a pvp game and there's no way to communicate with each other. The fact that if u have 5 hours in this game you can play against a 4k hour player is plain as day.
There's no real roles either for survivors so there's no actual diversity in the gameplay. Imagine if you replaced the 4 survivors with the abilities of the killers it would give players the agency to work with their playstyle. Not every player is a team player, doesn't mean they're not good at the game. To expect every survivor to be a top tier team player is silly biz.
And yes chat post game is toxic, but we can all laugh over dbd's rng language filter :)

Problem is it isn’t just about what your team is or isn’t doing during a match. There are legitimate things that need to be addressed (Camping/Tunneling/Lack of killer mobility/Map design) that have nothing to do with the game’s playerbase.

Have you played a different teamgame besides DBD?
Before starting DBD I had been playing League of Legends. After LoL, despite being such a different game, the communication in DBD seems by comparison primal. People trying to communicate through clicks and point and tbagging all sorts of things, not much different from the first homo sapiens before they developed language.
League back in the day only had a chat you could type in DURING the game and just an all purpose ping. But over the years the game evolved and now you have pings for different purposes. On top of that you could always see what your team was doing and actually if you put a ward down (an item that gives vision to the dark parts of the map), everyone, not just you could see the info as long as people payed attention. Of course that didn't mean people weren't caught by surprise from the enemy team more often than not, especially at low levels.
Just like DBD it also had a main objective (destroying turrets/doing gens) and secondary ones that helped you along the way (dragon, baron) and back in the day, people had to keep a timer for those things to know when they spawn but after many seasons they decided to make this information available to everyone so people can focus on doing the objective and less on whether they can keep track of the timers (timer keeping is still a thing on the micro part of the game though).
It would be preposterous that those changes have had no effect on lower elo. They can play a lot more co-ordinated than they used to be able to, I've been around way longer than DBD has been around.
Does that mean that people who could keep track of timers etc, might have fallen off? Yeah probably. If your talent was information keeping and that gave you the advantage, of course when that information is available to everyone you will be weaker unless you can keep up on the other fronts of the game.
Information is valuable in DBD as well and I think that's why many people are opposed to this change, because then they won't be able to take advantage of the lack of co-ordination soloq provides. Selfish people will always exist though. Just like in DBD there are people who DC on first hook or suicide, the same is true about LoL. People will feed on purpose to make the enemy stronger if the team doesn't decide to surrender. There are roles that encourage or more likely attract that kind of super-star wannabe player, like people playing Flashlight Neon Nea trying to grab the attention of the killer. I'm not sure the developers in either case can do something about it, as it cannot be automated unlike say chat toxicity.
The problem with information perks is that you can't share it with others, unlike SWF. Like say I run Distortion, not traditionally an info perk but it works as such as well, how the heck can I communicate with my team that the enemy has Lethal, Barbeque and chili, Nurse's Calling and to stop healing.
I don't disagree that it is good practice to use up your hook state. I try to do it as well, but again because of lack of communication we cannot ask for people who have not been hooked so far to take one for the team so maybe we can all make it out. I've also had frustrating games where either I do a mistake early on and I get hooked, or I run the killer for a while and I still get hooked naturally after a minute and I hit second stage for one reason or another. How is that not a communication problem? Especially if you're playing with newbies. Imagine if a newbie got hooked and as it is often the case they attempt to escape cause they don't know any better but you could like tell them "Don't, wait for us to save you the chance is very low and it'll only hasten your death". Who is supposed to tell them? The Youtuber? What if they're casual and don't watch DBD Youtube? The game? The game doesn't teach them other fundamental thing let alone that.
Don't get me started on the matchmaking. You could not get away with de-ranking in LoL as it is a heavily debated topic when good players smurf whether that is for personal enjoyment or financial reasons. Of course in LoL's case it does separate try hard mode (Ranked) to casual mode (Normals) and DBD doesn't), but this is the part of the game that creates the hugest imbalance imo and DBD is indecisive regarding whether it wants to be a party game or a competitive game.

Understandable.
Whether a HUD is added or an information perk is added to the base kit, players who are not good at the game will not change their crouching at the edge of the map.
It could be improved somewhat, but only if you realize that you are making it more difficult to survive by ignoring the whole purpose of the game in order to survive longer: ...... Will it take a long time? I suspect they will remain unaware of it and not fix the generators.

archives encouraging throwing to complete them
perks encouraging throwing to get value from them
general lack of any kind of info and communication to try and avoid some killer strategies.

Thank you guys for the input, I appreciate it. Because someone asked, I did not play any other PvP game before or are currently playing. Everyone always told me to not do it, because the communities are toxic and it would not be fun. I also wanna say that I am not a beginner, I have 600+ hours in this game and should not be matched with total beginners. I started as a survivor, but switched to killer once my friends did not want to play the game anymore.
Some good ideas for BHVR as you pointed out are:
- Changing the archive challenges so survivors do not have to throw a game to complete them - I completely agree, the challenges are so annoying sometimes. But people have to learn that you cannot do all of them in one game, like if you have to cleanse X totems. If there is a person having a boon perk, hold yourself back and leave them at least one totem on the map. CoH is helping everybody.
- Adding a learning environment (like a new mode where you do not play for your ranking or bp) - That is such a good idea, I really love that. I used to switch to the PTB to learn upcoming killers and the new perks, but people over there are trolls mostly. You can only learn there if you have friends.
- Give more information through information perks becoming basekit or new HUD- i am still not convinced this would help that much, but a perk like aftercare where you have to earn that information for you and the one you are healing/is healing you would be balanced I think.
- Add more diversity to gameplay - that is a really tricky one. For survivors the effective gameplay is doing gens and destroying hex totems. Everything else basically just takes time from these objectives, except for unhooking and healing. Because you need your fellow survivors. I don't know how you could change it up other than program a whole different game.
- Fixing MMR - yes please, it is unbearable and I think it is not even on most of the time.

I have resigned myself to the reality some matches will just be absolute dumpster fires. Team mates will disconnect, killers will play like ######### as will many survivors. I have a lot more fun in DBD when I don't take it seriously and try not to get too annoyed by stupid solo team mates or obnoxious killers and so on.
Of course there is only so much BHVR can do as you cant change human nature. People will be people and do things that are crappy, the trick is to not let it get to you and this is difficult but I try to just move on and hope the next match is better
