Why did I prestige all of my level 50 characters right before 6.1.0?
Anyone who decided not to prestige just got all the same benefits of prestiging (two extra prestige levels and the red portraits if you were P2 L50). People who decided to prestige lost all their items, add-ons, and offerings.
I felt like back in July BHVR did a good job of communicating the benefits and downsides to prestiging. Now with this unannounced "phase 2" I see that I lost hundreds of flans, other event offerings, and items for no real benefits except a few months early access to a few unlocked perks and a bunch of useless perk charms.
In addition to this, my P3 L50 characters were limited to 6 extra prestige levels no matter how many perks they had unlocked and did not get anything with this phase 2 update. Anyone who had all perks on a P1 L50 or P2 L50 character also reached the P9 cap after 6.1.0, but now they get two extra prestige levels? I don't understand why this phase 2 didn't just give out those 2 free prestige levels to all characters that had ever reached or passed P0 L50. Then there would still have been some benefit to prestiging pre-6.1.0.

RIP.
I guess I learned my lesson that I shouldn't get too invested in the progression in this game.

Yea I lost so many items, add ons and offerings due to this.
Cant believe they did this

Because the internet told you to. Old prestige was never worth it, especially with the stockpiles of items many people have. Live and you learn, my dude.

No, I made the decision on my own based on what BHVR said. Now they have released a "phase 2" which makes it so there was no reason to prestige and lose all that stuff. Feels bad.

I misread what it said, myself. So I Prestiged Sadako and Pinhead, only realise my mistake when the update hit. 😅

Well I didn’t think about this. Good news is my mains didn’t lose much from this (Spirit, Artist, Claudette, Yui).

Better put: because BHVR tricked us by hiding this "Phase 2" of the catch up mechanic at the time.

P1 > P3
P0(lv50) > P2
P3 > P9
P2(lv50) > P6
That's why. For the sake of hitting one extra button, you gained an entire additional prestige level, for each you already had.
If you had enough perk tiers unlocked to gain you additional prestige levels that way, it was already known that it wouldn't be worth it to prestige. This was common knowledge.
The idea was to count your perk tiers on each character, and if they had over 170 perk tiers, it wasn't worth prestiging them because they would already go straight to P3. With 120 being a sort of 'soft cap' that would get them the equivalent of a P2 lv50.

"P3 > P9
P2(lv50) > P6"
This is not correct. If you were P2(lv50) before 6.1.0, you were P6(lv50) after the update. After phase 2, you are now P8(lv50) and have a red portrait.
Prestiging obviously had a greater cost than hitting one extra button. I certainly would not have prestiged if I knew I could get the same benefit a few months later without doing anything at all.

Actually its P0(lvl50) - P2(lvl)50
So its 1lvl 50 bloodweb and then P3
I for example prestiged a bunch of killers and survivors and lost tons of stuff because my choice was prestige for P1 to go to P3, or get P1 lvl 50 in catch up, effectively meaning i would need to do another 50 levels of bloodweb on 25 characters to be at the same spot.
So at the time I made the choice to sacrifice stuff to save 1,250 bloodweb levels, which was meaningless because i would have gotten all those characters to P4 lvl 50 with both catch ups essentially P5 with 2 bloody cosmetics instead of P3 level 0. So when you look at it completely it really is losing all that stuff and being farther behind on prestige as well.
Its like going for a save for a good teammate in endgame, knowing your trading your life for theirs, and them not moving after being unhooked making your sacrifice meaningless.

because people act without thinking.
It was pretty obvious that it wasn’t worth it to rush to prestige and lose all progress before the changes went live but lots of people did, why because there would be a slight colour change on their portraits.
That really is just the height of reactive foolishness and the announced changes make me chuckle just a little.

Yeah -- to be completely honest, I got the best possible outcome because I didn't prestige any characters or lose anything, but I do feel like people were encouraged to dump their stockpiles of items and add-ons without any real benefit to them.

I did the same thing, BHVR just doing what it does best, screwing over the playerbase.

are you kidding!? honestly, yeah it sucks cause we didn't know, BUT AT THE SAME TIME LIKE, I got every single character to have every single tier 3 perk all at the same time, when I only really cared about 1, so I'm perfectly fine with the result, it's not like I was planning to play EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER, in the next month, and I don't suspect you were either, you're totally right to be upset, but honestly those items and offerings meant almost nothing to me

For survivors sure but for killers it sucks ive been playing so many addonless games because Im still leveling up others to unlock perks.

Wow, you got screwed way harder. It's crazy how little thought was put into this phase 2 update. I wonder if anyone making the decision even considered players in your situation.
