I'll never understand this

So I was on hook first one by the way and everyone else but a Nancy was dead she was in basement doing nothing so basically I died...and she gets hatch which the killer closed but she had a key and dropped it? Then picked it back up he shows her hatch and she gets the escape...why? She didn't do anything or have anything bad to her happen? If I place an item I just get hooked and that's it so why does she get hatch. Seriously nothing bad happened to her she never got sandbagged or treated poorly by teammates so why does she get hatch just because she placed an item down?

Dropping your item is the sign of surrender and asking for mercy.

The killer is under no obligation of any kind to honor this surrender, but some do and show mercy.

If you are dying anyway you could always try to beg for mercy. Most killers, myself included, have convoluted, winding and inconsistent internal rulesets that govern who might apply for mercy, which actions void your appeal and thousands of minute details.

In short, I happily give the last survivor the hatch or exit gate, just to keep my MMR growth a little bit in check, but I want to assert dominance first and kinda havex"won", ie downed the survivor, hauled them to a hook and slapped the hook with my weapon, signifying that I made it there in time.

If the survivor surrenders before I down then I'll accept it, but I want their item as compensation. Also, if they flashlight clickety clicked or overtly BMed me over the course of the game, their chances are pretty slim.

If I like their character or cosmetic, this raises their chances, if I think that their cosmetic is overtly popular and I hate it (*cough* green bunny Feng *cough*) it lowers their chances etc. Suevivors might be obviously newbies, so they can keep their items. Or if they do something cute during the chase.

But whenever I feel like it, non of these rules have any effect and I'll do whatever I want.

I hoped that this helped clearing up your confusion a bit.

See you in the Fog :>

A lot of the time I will give the survivor hatch, because a lot of survivor's tend to waste the full EDC and then die. I just want to go next, I already won.

"But whenever I feel like it, non of these rules have any effect and I'll do whatever I want."

But every once in a while I have no mercy in me and will give no one the hatch.

Just the way it goes... I had a survivor hide while I was slugged for 4 minutes as the killer tried to find them. They hid in a locker instead of even trying to pick me up which they easily could have done. I had not been hooked up to that point either... Solo queue for you!

As killer I would have seen this (the survivor even had crows by the end) and let the slugged person go but there is no rule on what killers should or should not do and unfortunately none of us got out of that selfish scenario

Some killers have even special survivor they let escape. If you face me and you are Rebecca Nancy or Steve your chances are good I ignore you if I see another surv and as long as you dant bm me you will most likely get hatch

For me it is a completely random thing. I might give hatch to the best player because I'm impressed or to the worst out of pity, or to the character I like, or don't give it to the character I don't like (no hatch for Davids and Steeves ever).

It's not a common thing, but it signals an "I surrender" in a sense, usually at the end game when there's no way for them to live. Some killers may honor it, but a lot will just take the kill.

Sometimes its just the survivor's behavior, whether they were cute, new acting, or juiced the eff out of the killer.

Sometimes, its the killer sending a message. Had a Deathslinger bring Franklin's just because 1 person (me) brought in a flashlight. And even though I didn't get many chances to get any saves, he still was signaling for me to not pick it up "or else."
