Why not add a trading system in the game, like a daily deal in the shop "3 brown medkits for a yellow one." sort of thing. It would be multiple of one type of item that can be traded for another item or the same one but a higher tier. It would help for the items that aren't used by some like a brown toolboxes or green keys.

I love this idea! I also think a way for players to trade items with each other outside of matches would be a good idea too.
