Lunging discrepancies
Recently started playing Oni, and I've noticed that his lunge/hitboxes seems smaller than other killers. I'm missing lunges that I swear I would normally hit with demo or ghostie
Same with doctor as well, feels like their weapons are shorter or something. Anybody else noticed this?

I mean I havent played all too much recently, but the last time I played I was doing killer and perk randomizers and never noticed anything off with lunges. Felt fine to me

Can't say I have noticed anything out of the ordinary.
Lunge distance is the same across all killers in my experience, but the visual weapon size difference might be throwing you off ? Oni is tall and with a large weapon, whereas Ghostface is short with a small knife. Them both covering the same distance might make it look like Ghostie has long lunges and Oni short ones.

But noticed it with doctor too and his weapon does look short, and I'm used to the spacing and with those 2 particular killers i seem to miss a lot more lunges. Idk might just be imagining it but it does feel very off.

According to the wiki, the lunge attacks are standardized among killers, the only variable accounted for being the speed at which the lunge was started.
Your experience missing lunges that seemed to connect visibly might be related to the size of the killer's model. Similar to how smaller killers sometimes seem to connect hits farther away (ex: Freddy, Legion). The hitbox is the same, but the model size differs.

All killers have the same weapon hitbox and lunge distance based on the average size who I presume is Trapper. This means someone tall with a long weapon like Oni will look like they lunge shorter or hit shorter, when in actuality they did the same lunge and weapon hit distance as every other killer. This is also why someone like Freddy who is short and has the smallest weapon looks like they lunge further and hit further than they should. So basically, their sizes dont really match what their lunge range should be because they all do the same lunge and hit range when it comes to basic attacks, but it makes sense for gameplay.

I don't play Oni that much, but I noticed the issue with the Doctor a long while back. When playing him I have to get closer to the survivor to land a hit vs playing most other killers. Never could find a solid answer as to why.

I know that they're all supposed to be the same length, but it just doesn't feel that way.

Unfortunately, hard data doesn't care much about how something feels or doesn't feel, the lunges are standardized.

This kind of just makes me think that the melee weapons should just have different hitbox reaches, but depending on the length means that the lunge is longer or shorter.
IMHO, it just doesn't make sense that a knife/claws lunge (Ghosty, Legion, Wesker, Demo, Hag, Freddy) goes the game length as a cleaver lunge (Trapper, Wraith, Twins) or a Bat/Hammer/Axe lunge (Trickster, Billy, Bubba, Huntress) or Pyramid Head's Great Knife lunge. Like idk, maybe it's to do with the limitations from when DbD first started, but times have changed and other games have weapon hitboxes that change with the length of the melee weapons and it's not like it's difficult to learn to adjust for different length melee ranges. So I certainly feel that a change to the melee or lunge mechanics could be done, at the very least as an immersion improvement because it's districtin when you look and see that the animation cuts about halfway through.

I'm on ps5 and have had crazy weird hitboxes lately - imo you are not imaging things
