Why do Billys addons have downsides? Makes 0 sense.
Yeah so, billys addons have downsides why?? maybe a yellow or possibly a green but purples are you kidding me? Why does one of his rarest add ons have a downside that makes him 4.4? Why do his boots increase hit stun time? why do Doom Engravings (a green) ######### up his charge speed?
I genuinely dont understand what the thinking here was, Billys add ons are the sole reason he isnt my main because hes so fun but everything hurts him.
and then theres the GOOD addons too... problem is they work for 30 seconds and only after youve been blinded, stunned, or overheated. Is bhvr really buffing billy, but only on the rare ass occurrences you overheat? are we supposed to overheat the saw for these add ons?? and what if the survivors dont have flashlights so you just dont have an add on it makes no sense.
i genuinely dont give a ######### about overheat anymore its annoying but THIS is the biggest problem with billy.
everyone loves billy but hes just hell to play.

While a lot of his add ons are definitely very weak, the three you listed as examples for ones that have downsides are all ones that kind of need them.
Tuned Carburettor is, in my opinion, one of his most fun add ons. Increased charge speed at the cost of going slower at base. Without any downside, it would be pretty broken and nooby.
Complaining about engravings tells me you barely know about Billy, as they are argued to be one of his best two add ons (Lopro chains are also in contention). Even with a downside they're very highly rated.
As for anything that gives a turning increase...I don't see why they needed to give that a downside in the form of spending longer stunned when you hit an object with your chainsaw. Maybe it's cause they didn't want it to turn into an add on that took no skill...?

Billy's addon rework came at a time when BHVR was being a bit more experimental with addons. They were trying to move away from addons that were just simply "power is x% better" and trying to create more interesting addons.
That's why things like "boost power when blinded" exist even though that's a terrible addon concept, but since Lightborn is his basekit perk they gave something that could synergize with it.

i dont think tuned carb. should just have the downside removed that would be super op, i think there should be a slight nerf to the rev speed but remove the 4.4 downside. that way its still a great addon but now it has no need for a downside
i use doom engravings nearly every match and play a ton of billy, i know how good they are and how much fun they are. and i know theyre highly rated even with a downside. but the point of my post wasnt that the addons arent viable because of the dowsides, its that the downsides are unneeded and frankly annoying. doom engravings would be a fine addon without the debuff and wouldnt be overpowered, just better and more fun.

I suppose if the charge speed was decreased then sure tuned carb could have its downside removed.
For engravings I stand by my thought that they'd be possibly broken without the downsides, however I can understand that you believe otherwise. They'd undeniably be more fun.
As for turning increase I'm more so agreeing with you that they don't actually need one, but I'm trying to look at it from the view of the devs thinking why they would add it.
