What do you guys think a FULL ancient/historical chapter being in DBD?
(Yes, I know Plague is historical and that BHVR already did the Ancient Greek cosmetics. I'm talking about something even more historical. A full chapter, where everything (the names, the cosmetics, the map, and the Killer) are tied to a historical place/time period. No modern cosmetics (unless BHVR wanted to goof around and put a Caveman in some modern clubbing clothes).
Possibilities:
Egypt (I've been wanting a licensed The Mummy chapter for years, so that would actually be historical in two ways, 1920s and ancient Egypt).
Rome
Greece
Mesopotamia
Mayans
Caveman (sometime around the Ice Age?)
Medieval (we already have the Knight, so maybe we'd have a Wizard as a Killer and a peasant as a Survivor)

Er... Isn't the upcoming chapter, like, exactly what you mean?
Sure Vittorio doesn't look exactly like he's from thr 14th century, but...
2 -
That's what I mean. He doesn't look historical and the map is a little aesthetically underwhelming, to be honest. I'm talking about something that is strongly historical in aesthetics.

That's a no for me, i prefer the approach they took with the upcoming chapter than a full on historically correct chapter for more than one reason.
1 -
What are your reasons, if you don't mind answering
0 -
Yea I would like more historical Killers and Survivors
WWII survivor (I can dream right.... right??)
Aztec Killer sounds amusing to me
It's time to start researching BHVR... LOL

Oooh I never thought of WW2. I could see that. Like a pilot was flying and all of the sudden, the Entity's fog came and got him. Not sure what the Killer would be. Maybe some sort of weird Nazi scientist who got disfigured by his own experiments.

Isn't that this upcoming chapter?

No. Please see my reply to the first comment.

LOL... I lost my great uncle in Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1942 (but they were able to find some of his remains and brought him home a couple years ago)
So it was just a thought I had
1 -
Jeez. I'm sorry to hear that. My respects to your family. I visited there a few years ago and it was very surreal. I'm glad some of his remains were returned to your family.

I want to go there and have that experience.... But anyway back to the topic...
Yes (a) WWII Survivor(s) would be cool... if the entity allows it of course

It's a mixture of lore reasons and just my general personal preferences.
TL;DR version: Vittorio's story and the implications of his story, perk descriptions and cosmetic descriptions adds more to the overall lore of dbd than what something like a peasant or wizard Survivor would add, also because we already have Mikaela to fill the Wizard role. I feel like staying 100% authentic to the time-period chosen as the setting for the chapter limits the freedom that can be added to the fantasy of which the world DBD has already established for itself and also because i find it more interesting when there are elements of the supernatural.
-
Long version: I just think it's more interesting to add more fantasy elements to expand the lore in an older time period than having it be absolutely authentic to how it was back then, it also just feels more limiting in how much freedom you can have with a lore that takes place in a fantasy setting if you try to be as authentic and realistic as possible with it.
As far as the Survivor goes: Vittorio serves as the Indiana Jones of DBD with how he goes on expedition to uncover treasures, artifacts and relics while also researching arcane knowledge, old or lost civilizations, the whereabouts of the Observers, etc.
Overall i feel Vittorio is a more interesting character than what something like a peasant or a wizard would be. If Vittorio was a peasant then he would most likely just be some ordinary nobody with nothing special to him, while if he was a wizard then he would probably be some powerful figure of importance. What we ended up with feels like a nice balance between both.
Also another thing i appreciate about Vittorio is that normally Survivor's default cosmetics are their everyday clothing which they wore when they entered the fog, however because it's not his actual clothing from back before he got taken and the implications of both Vittorio's bio and the text from both his perks & default cosmetics, it means he's managed to find a way to avoid the entity's trial and it's influence to some capacity most likely thanks to some of that arcane knowledge he's been learning about prior since he got that blue aura light on his body and how according the the halloween tome, it's been teased that someone (most likely Vittorio) has been stealing arcane tattoo symbols from the bodies of other Survivors and has added to his own.
As far as the map goes: I think it looks fine as it is aesthetically, looks like the abandoned remains from some medieval battlefield, could maybe use a few adjustments to make scratchmarks easier to see, but other than that it's okay imo.

Bhvr would probably be willing to do more historical chapters but only if they can somehow still dress the survivor up in modern clothes. Bhvr wants their survivors to sell skins and you don't have much cosmetic diversity in an ancient mesopotamian survivor. Look at plague, it feels like bhvr doesn't know what kind of cosmetics to give her, and she's a killer.

I love your idea for an Ancient Egyptian chapter with maybe a deranged mummy priest/priestess as a killer, with a Brenden Fraser-inspired survivor. Like imagining the Mummy's Mori is kind of terrifying, like shoving the survivor inside a beetle-filled sarcophagus where they're eaten alive by the insects or they're wrapped in bandages and then pulled inside a sarcophagus where they're then buried alive by being dragged under the ground (similar to Pinhead's Mori).
Personally, I'd like to see a Salem Witch type killer. An innocent person who was accused, tried and almost executed for Witchcraft during the Salem trials. The Entity takes them and kind of brainwashes them into being loyal to it by giving the magic/witch powers and casting an illusion over them to think that survivors are their accusers (similar to how Slinger sees survivors as the ones who wronged him) and tries to get vengeance on them for their cruel treatment of her.

Regardless it is historical. Even if it doesnt meet the standards of some as its merely just an opinion. The fact remains that it still is historical where both characters and map pays homage to their timeline. And im sure vittorio will have cosmetics in the near future representing his era. They probably just made his default a hot silver fox of a man to make a good first impression to the community. Which obviously they did. And they have an explanation in his lore as to why he looks the way he does now

So, you mean Adiris's time to shine?

If we had a wizard I would like a perk that allows me to fireball Self Carers who don't bring Botany Knowledge.
2 -
I think it would be interesting to have Medusa as a killer. Like imagine if your being chased by them, if you look at them you get hindered then turn into a stone for a few seconds if you look even longer. Like you have to loop but be mindful of where you are looking. Id, would be cool as hell to me.

Wow. That's a cool lore idea. I like it. It makes me feel terrible for the Killer though lol
But on that note, I still desperately want BHVR to do a "twist of fate" chapter. It's where, at the moment the Entity takes someone and makes them into a Killer, they were instead turned into a Survivor in either an alternate reality or a different timeline. Spirit, for instance, could be an amazing Survivor as Rin. And imagine having Rin and Spirit in the same match. You're facing your alternate reality, your shadow self. It's the kind of sick, twisted game the Entity would enjoy. And your idea would also work really well like that. I wonder if they could even start expanding the lore amongst characters, like maybe Michaela and your character have some sort of ancestral history.

Simply, I don't have enough to satisfy my desire. Keep in mind, in the post I acknowledged that BHVR has had some historical elements. So the question wasn't, should DBD have any historical elements (if already does), the question was, should it have a full chapter of it? That means it is strongly historical in character names, all cosmetics, and the map. Personally, this most recent one doesn't give me enough of that. If it does for you, that's fine. But I need more and I think there's a lot of room to have that.

Oh my gosh, if BHVR did that, they would have to do it just right lol She could easily be incredibly OP or so badly weakened that her power is a complete fail. But if they could get it right, it would be cool.

My preferred killer concept would fit an ancient Roman or Greek chapter.
The Morai, or Hecate, or any three-part/three-headed deity for that matter.
Takes the form of three statues, which are fixed and completely stone-like when not 'active'. You're able to control any of the three statues at a time, and then switch between them, perhaps on a short cooldown. So you can set statues up in certain locations and use them as quick travel points.
It would play a bit like Demo/Hag/Twins in terms of zoning or map mobility, but also allow anti-loop plays like you set up a statue in a key location, like the shack doorway for example, and can chase the survivor around one side, before swapping back to the one in the doorway to head them off like Dredge. It would take a bit more set up than Dredge, almost on the same level as Trapper. Or you can spread them out and use them for wider map pressure and gen defence.
Taking a bit of inspiration from the latest killer though, each statue could have it's own 'strengths'. For example: (each one has it's own weapon)
A: 115% movement, 32m TR, double stun recovery speed. (Pugio)
B: 110% movement, 24m TR, double lunge distance. (Spatha)
C: 105% movement, 16m TR, attacks inflict deep wound. (Gladius)

Wow... that's a really interesting idea. I like it. I wonder what the counter for that power would be 🤔

It's weakness would be that it's still an M1 killer at it's base, which stops it from ever being top tier.
But I suppose you mean like; Demo's portals can be dismantled, Hag's traps can be erased with flashlights, Trappers traps can be disarmed, and Dredge's remnant can be dispersed.
Perhaps running right up to the front of a statue gives an interaction option, and by touching the statue, you place a binding on it and you can't switch back to that statue for 30s or something. Binding a second statue immediately unbinds the other, so as killer you always have at least two statues available to switch between. A 'bound' statue would have no collision so you can't block survivors in corners.

Interesting. Ask BHVR for a job. 😂

Plague who?
Real talk tho I'm the exact opposite, I want a killer from the future with glowy cybernetics and stuff.
2 -
If the upcoming chapter is not good for what you are asking, then no.
Because you are not asking for historycal correct, you asking for YOUR historycal correct.
BHVR does do some good history chapters (mostly killers)
But that can only be seen if you read and analyse your sources

Well a flamethrower killer but idk if that would be okay

I don't see how you have that viewpoint. There's perhaps a major miscommunication between us, but I don't see it being remedied.

Future is also very cool, too.

I would prefer the way the next chapter was done, i have zero interest towards an ancient survivor.

Thanks :) I've been reading about the Salem Trials on and off over the years and I feel so terrible for all of those people who were unjustly murdered because they saw death as being more "merciful" than being allowed to live, but being shunned by society because they were branded as a "witch". So the idea of a sympathetic killer (especially if the Entity has to manipulate them into becoming a vengeful killer) is pretty easy to write from there, she or he was unjustly accused by people who were afraid or (even darker) because some neighbour wanted their land or livestock
It's also just interesting from a historical standpoint to observe a social contagion, literally paranoia brought on from stress about being strictly religious, the paranoia of being in a foreign land amount other trials and hardships the entire town practically turned against each other, all over an extreme fear that was mostly a holdover from the old world. Said paranoia being born from and then exasperated by the Malleus Maleficarum which was written by an insane male priest, who was upset that women were allowed to be priests and spread the word of god in the small French town he happened to travel through. Anyway, a happy note is that the Malleus Maleficarum was rejected and denounced openly by the church as nothing more than paranoia and jibberish but because Jane and Joe public are impressionable idiots the MM spread as true gospel.
Anyway, *suffocates inner history nerd back into coma* I really do like your Twist of Fate style event idea. I've always been a fan of "Gender Swapping" or "What If" AU's for games like DbD, Overwatch, LoL etc. I think it'd be a neat idea to have them as skins or cosmetics. Legion having Meg, Dwight, Jake or Claudette "cosmetics" while those survivors have the Legion cosmetics. Would make for some very fun chaos, trying to figure out who is the killer and who is the survivor, could make Legion's trailer actually have lore relevance. XD

No, please. Resuscitate the nerd. :) I agree with you about the social contagion aspect. You should make some posts about your ideas. Let your nerdiness out :)

The nerd will wake up eventually, she'll be fine *pats head*.
I think I'll write down my ideas in a post someday when I have more than just a rough story idea and killer/survivor outline, as I'd really need to go into details about potential perks, add-ons, killer themed map, survivor(s) etc. As Salem Witch and/or Witch Hunter could be a very interesting killer/survivor concepts that'll need some proper dedication. :)

Doooo ittttt! And I hope to see the post when you do :)
