Why do Killers still have such low FOV?
The game has become like 90% about running around in circles, and the highest Killers can get with a specific perk is like 102, which is below the baseline for just about every FPS in existence (i think they're often around 120)? You know, on top of making everything about five times more disorienting to play.
FFS, Doom had an FOV of about 90 degrees. Killers only get 87. Less FOV than a 30 year old slow-turning 2.5D game.
this brought to you by "azarov has so much junk spawning on it i was legitimately getting dizzy"

Honestly, before I used to not care, but having been playing less and coming back now and then, it's extremely evident how downright disorientating the FOV is.
14 -
it gets really, really bad when running around super tight loops, and the amount of junk spawning right now...
and if I want it to slightly improve I need to spend a day or two just farming Wraith prestige so I can run the perk? FFS.

Please just give me more FoV so I don't get motion sick.
I will literally play MORE.
17 -
Yeah, I've never gotten motion sick, but with the way so many tiles are spawning right now, I am starting to get dizzy. <_>
You need to turn way too fast for how restricted the FOV is, and it's not like a wider FOV wouldn't also give survivors some positives (flashlight related) without game changes, on top of y'know, making playing Killer less disorienting.

An advantage for a sick Pulsar :(

I will play Shadowborn until base FOV is increased (I don't care if by default or in settings menu).

At this stage, I would pay money to have a 5th perk slot that can only take shadowborn or any other perk that literally just does basic setting QoL features. At least I'd get something then.
2 -
Using perk slots to increase FOV is silly and dumb.
But DbD is in some ways trying to balance this by stressing the killer, and besides the FOV, the developer has stated that the loud chase background music is to drown out the sound of the survivor. The sparse scratching is meant to confuse the killer... Hmmm.
3 -
I'm so used to 3 perks I am not sure what I would run if we got increased fov.
3 -
Yeah, but this is the only perk-tied feature that could be considered anti-accessibility. Pulsar's not the only person I've seen complain about motion sickness in first person, so I imagine the low FOV often makes it worse.
4 -
Yeah idk why the fov is so low currently. Like they try to make a trade off with M&A but you lose the extra FOV while in chase so that doesnt work. And as for the whole "it'll give an advantage" argument is just very silly. Like yes it CAN give an advantage but most people look over the fact that the more information to process the more chances to gloss over some survivor in the middle of the screen because you're trying to look at the edges more.
3 -
The way it works is also tied to flashlight stun range. So, increasing FOV (or allowing increased FOV) also means leaving people more susceptible to flashlight saves unless they changed how those work. TBH, I think it's entirely possible that there'd be no safe way to look.

I already get blinded from nothing on my screen so it feels like I already have shadowborn without the FOV.
1 -
i'll take that trade 100%, im tired of using a perk slot every build so i can comfortably look at my screen
1 -
It's funny that you often find people. Under post like this that say it would be op if the killer has more fov and that it should be earned through a perk cause stealth would be dead but these are the same that curse out imersive survivor and say chase is best
0 -
i don't know how much stealth is in "stand directly beside the killer" anyway. it fails 90% of the time
1 -
Take how ######### the FOV is and then multiply the suffering by at least 2 to get to the experience of the console killer. Getting FOV teched and spun and people Dead Harding when you can't even see them or missing hits due to autoaim. You have to work twice as hard to perform even close to a PC killer while on console

Imagine our power if we swapped over.
Eh, on second thought, I don't wanna play comp.

I cant play on default FOV for 5min before I get sick. I cant even do killer adepts because of this. Shadowborn perk is a joke, should be a menu option
1 -
Because thats not how it works. Its more like turn a corner, crouch down, and when the killer turns that corner sneack past him and go back the way he came.
2 -
yeah, that's what I mean
It relies entirely on the Killer having zero peripheral vision, and it generally doesn't work ANYWAY because everyone's swivelling around to correct for the fact that Killers apparently have a cast on their neck
1 -
so you can smell the survivors hair better while waiting out dead hard
1 -
it works for me often enough. But i dont care about the discussion anymore, if they ever change it, we will see who is right. If stealth dies in this game, i will play just killer exclusivly, or not play at all. If they change it and it doesnt impact stealth play, well then its a good change.

Just to clarify, you're saying 'stealth' gameplay that's just relying on the other person not swinging their view back and forth but comes at the cost of some people being able to stomach playing Killer at all (literally! See the motion sickness complaints on that thread) is a good trade?
1 -
No, i am saying i dont care about this discussion anymore, because all is already said in the countless other threads on this topic.

Having finally ground up Wraith so I can get Shadowborn (though only to P1, so so far that means exactly one Killer with it at P3--I got every perk I had unlocked on Wesker)--just... what? The low FOV didn't really get to me in a physical sense, but it still feels way better to have even a moderately wide FOV! Sure, there's a few benefits to spotting people, but overall it just feels nicer. :/

Queasyar. I'll see myself out.

I think it's a fairly safe conclusion that if buffing FOV would buff Killers overall, find out some other nerf to hand out to everyone or something, or some way to help Survivors with being sneakier. Balance shouldn't be achieved by making one side have an objectively worse visual experience.
1 -
😡
😡
2 -
but how will survivors hide in the corner of your eyes and make a funny video out of it even tho you are playing with 40 FOV
the funny thing is, it just gives survivors more ways to blind so its win win either way, killers won't feel motion sick and survivors get more sides to blind from

Having a setting that is a basic feature in most games pit behind a perk is ridicolous. Let's hope they take feedback on this
3 -
It is indeed an advantage. I have started playing with Shadowborn just recently, and it clearly helps.
I do think it would be very nice to have a field of view slider, and then just rework Shadowborn. But that would no doubt be a buff to killers, so survivors would need some counterbuff as well. I would suggest a slight crouching movement speed increase, since a higher field of view for the killer makes stealth for the survivor a little more difficult.
But then again, survivors are still waiting on that nerf to camping which is insanely long overdue.
1 -
I don't think Shadowborn made all that much of a difference when I was playing with it, although it did feel more pleasant.
1 -
I definitely do think it does give you an advantage. Not a huge one, which is arguably a good reason for it not to be a perk actually, but it would be a small buff, and I think a small stealth buff for survivors as a counter buff would be good as well. But a greater field of view at base would definitely be nice.

Increased FOV isn't necessarily a buff or a nerf. It depends on the user and how they feel with it. The more you increase FOV, the more the fisheye effect becomes apparent where you can see more around you, but objects appear more distant and less clear the farther they are.
This means that sure a killer may see a survivor off the side of their screen that they would not have seen usually, but they also may miss more distant visual cues like crows flying off. Additionally, this is also why I see people who run Shadowborn get hit by pallets more often because they think the pallet is farther than it actually is.
There are some other changes with increased FOV. On one hand, increased FOV feels smoother to play with and helps with motion sickness. On the other hand, being able to see more objects crammed onto the screen also means that the killer can be flashlight blinded more easily.

It's to allow "skillful mindgames" from the survivors. Otherwise this wouldn't even be a discussion.

I believe it's "disorienting." I make the same pronunciation mistake all the time.

no matter the killer i always run shadowborn. base fov hurts my eyes
