The second iteration of 2v8 is now LIVE - find out more information here: https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/kb/articles/480-2v8-developer-update

Can we seriously get some acknowledgement of this new Fear Of Missing Out crap being introduced?

This is the third round of cosmetics that they've put in the store now that will be only available for a limited time before being seemingly removed permanently for purchase (An educated guess, as BHVR has not clarified this in any fashion); BHVR seriously needs to acknowledge what this new FOMO business model is about, as pressuring players into buying cosmetics in a limited timeframe to compensate for the in-progress conversion of all non-licensed cosmetics to being available with Iri Shards is not okay. They have every right to as a business tactic, but it's shifty and underhanded, doubly so to just try and sneak it in without acknowledgement.

The Jane dress and Dwight TP mummy outfits at Halloween were limited time only, same with Clown and Feng's rift recolour skins

Unfortunately, they wouldn't do this if it didn't work

Think about it, if nobody bought these cosmetics BHVR would probably be forced to go back on it because I'm sure nobody at BHVR wants to make content that literally nobody buys. The "exclusivity" is fake. Always will be

I hate it as well, but when I see them doing stuff like this - I just don't give them my money and advise others who hate this kind of practice to do the same. Some people just buy buy buy though, so they'll never go back on it

This isn't the worst it could be though, I'm sure they're testing the waters

Were the Clown and Feng recolors available in the shop or in the previous rift?

Seasonal skins are fine. Really they are. They'll be back next year. It's not as if no one knew we'd have Christmas skins. Well maybe the people who don't keep up with video games, but that's besides the point.

For event skins I don’t mind it too much. We do know they’ll come back next year and they are available for a whole months so you have plenty of time to decide

Games like Apex, OW2 and fortnite do this in a way worse way

Maybe it’s because I really don’t care at all about cosmetics (I fully realize that a lot of players do care a lot about this), but I don’t understand the player anger about this. Either you’re going to buy a cosmetic or you’re not. Who cares if it’s time limited? How long does it take you to decide it you’re going to buy it? If you like it, buy it while it’s available. If you don’t feel like it’s worth the money, don’t buy it. It’s really not a stressful decision.

maybe this is simply an issue of people being upset about the fact that BHVR are not explicitly stating that they are trying to use FOMO as a way to get people to buy stuff. This seems like an even more ridiculous thing to be upset about. Every company that sells products to consumers uses all sorts of different marketing tactics to try to make more money, and FOMO is a very commonly used one. I’ve never heard mass outrage about other companies not revealing/discussing their marketing strategies or their motives for why they do things a certain way. Of course they are doing this to try to make more money. Why do they have to come out and say it?

If it really upsets you that BHVR won’t come out and make a declaration “WE ARE OFFERING THESE SKINS FOR A LIMITED TIME BECAUSE WE ARE TRYING TO MAKE MORE MONEY”, then just don’t buy them. There’s really a very simple solution here.

"Just don't buy them" is a piss-poor attitude, as it puts the blame on the consumer. It's much like any of the other crap people say in this game. Getting genrushed? Getting tunnelled? Just play better. It's not the players' fault or responsibility to compensate for predatory business practices, especially when BHVR is already potentially breaking the law with their fake-discount crap for linked cosmetic sets (It's illegal to portray an item as having a "discount" when there is no other way to obtain it without said discount, making it artificial).

Wouldnt that in essence make all sales against the law, why would you wanna pay full price if there is a discount.

If the issue is just in reference to linked cosmetics, are there linked cosmetics that arent licensed? Pretty sure the licenses are done in a way that if they werent linked there just wouldnt be extra cosmetics on thise chatacters at all.

    You don't understand.

The issue is if there is a discount advertised when there is no other way to obtain said item

If I buy something that is advertised at 10% off, but there is no way for me to buy the item/items at a non-discounted price or separately (as is the case with multiple cosmetic sets), then it is not a discount. Get it?

I don't think it's blaming the consumer when the only actual way to get them to stop these practices is to stop buying into it collectively but that's impossible because some people just buy anyway and don't care

I do think it's greed though, I don't disagree I just think the only way companies learn is when there's actual tangible consequences for their actions.

Why would you want to pay full price and not get 10% off? That doesnt make any sense.

This also happens with games, after a while they come out with a game of the year/enhanced edition, and then eventually stop selling the base game so the only version of the game available for purchase is the super version that comes with the dlc.

Another example would be like lego sets, if you want a lego character lets say freddy krueger, you cant just buy lego freddy krueger, you have to get the freddy krueger lego set that comes with him and his basement.

Can you maybe give me an example of a non liscensed linked cosmetic to help with understanding your point?

Also with an in-game cosmetic are you suggesting they need to be listed in an out of game source like you should be able to buy them thru steam instead of in-game? Or is the issue just with the fact that they are all tied as one skin?

Edit: I would also love to see a link to this law.

Hate to break it to you but businesses have been doing this before you were even born. Want it to change? Get into government.

My take on this is: don't be scared of missing out? It's just skins
