is SBMM good or bad for the game? discuss

I personally do not like it. It seems like every game is super sweaty and everyone has to win at all costs. Talking about playing survivor and killer. Its both sides.

what happened to the fun goofy games where you had bartender bubba and that type of game play???

I blame SBMM, but thats my 2 cents.

ever since SBMM has been introduced my matched have been rather excellent. I very rarely get sweatlords and people I get to kill are nice.

But I expect anyone who is good at the game will suffer cause they will get to play against people who are equally 'insufferable'

Too bad for them I guess.

I have a bit of a conspiracy theory take on this one... I suspect that at least some of the time for all intents and purposes it does not exist.

If the queues are pumping then I think we do see the closest thing to real SBMM as the matchmaking has a big pool of players so can be more accurate in matching you up with players of similar skill. However I strongly suspect it prioritises fast queues over accurately matching players outside of the complete baby new players.

In my own matches I notice that the survivors I play against are wildly varied in the same lobby, with one being an absolute god and another very obviously being a baby. I suspect they removed the rank system and its visibility so people wouldn't complain when they find themselves in lobbies with players of much higher/lower rank.

I think this is happening but we just cant see that if it was the old rank system it would be a total rainbow now and overall I am kinda for it. I will take the randomness and fast matchmaking over the old days where I would need a video to watch while I found a match... When I used to SWF a lot in the early days we would get to rank 1 so fast we could not find games and would have to throw/DC to derank and find matches again. Not fun.

Edit, so sorry to answer do I think it is good? Well yes but I don't think we truly have SBMM most of the time anyway and that is totally fine

if it worked all the time it would be amazing actually, 5 people of similar skill so 4 good survivors and a good killer is actually peak DBD experience, tense and anything can happen because everyone knows what they are doing

what actually happens most of the time is a slaughter fest at 4 gens or the killer just gets gen rushed and gets 1 hook and a kill during end game

SBMM can be good if implemented right. SBMM in DBD has a lot of flaws that can be abused maliciously.

    Bad.

The game was better before. You can even see this in the player base number fluctuations. The matchmaking was more all over the place, but that was a good thing because it helped cover up how ridiculously unbalanced the game is. SBMM brings that to the surface which hypothetically would be good if it was used to better balance things but since DBD doesn't balance top/down it's basically useless information that doesn't get used and just leaves high mmr games as much less fun.

Facing 2-4 SWF groups every game at high mmr isn't fun for most people.

Simply put, MUCH better than it was before, but too far from normal functioning. I really think next step should be fixing MMR criteria.

Well it doesn't even always work and is a terrible system to even track still especially as survivor.

Plus the game isnt balanced for good players so 4good survivors will do a game so fast. So its boring easy for the survivors, boring unfun for killer.

I wouldn't mind SBMM if it somewhat separated new, bad, and good survivors but I'm still here getting paired in awful matches even though I escape alot.

I just want a system that pairs me with people that do gens tbh, dont mind people not being as good in chases but I seriously shouldn't be paired with people that dont do gens or killers that cant play.

I don't even believe this game has an MMR system unless you are at the absolute bottom. I've had some ridiculous streaks on Nurse and Blight and I never felt like people were getting significantly better. There is also a massive amount of variation in skill to the point where they might as well turn the system off entirely. One game you play against gods and the next it's people who have no idea what they're doing. I assume this is because of how low the softcap is. The way a person with 3000 MMR can theoretically be matched with a person who has 1500 is what I mean. I think they'd be better off going back to the old rank system at this point.

Its way better than what we have before, every complaint against the SBMM can easily be applied to the old rank based system
