Make events a separate game mode
Every event there's complaints because one portion of the player base wants to goof off while the other wants to play serious. Alot will complain because they went in wanting to just relax since it's an event but others were playing sweaty like it's a normal match. OR they went in wanting to play sweaty since MMR and challenges still require normal game play so they are complaining about the others not taking the game serious enough because it's also an event. You have these two opposing mentalities all being thrown into one game mode that just leads to added frustration on top of the normal every day frustrations from the game.
There should be a separate game mode available during events where special event BP is earned as well as event rewards. Have it be a completely different mode from the normal gameplay, one that removes the ability to play sweaty. No early eliminations. No just making one side miserable. It could be a capture the flag mode where there's two sides, each gets a killer to protect "flag" and survivors to retrieve the "flag." Have a whack-a-mole snowman mode where for 10 minutes survivors need to hop in as many snowmen as possible and killers need to just destroy the snowmen.
Maybe (probably) these specific game mode ideas are terrible but you get the point - just have event game modes that are not the normal game mode. Having a completely different mode allows people to play a casual match without the players that play competitive coming in for an easy win.
What about the queue times? Events are only for a week or two. It's like having a PTB that temporarily takes players away from the normal game mode anyway. Since event mode wouldn't be normal gameplay there would be players going back to normal mode because they want to play that mode to get dailies/rift challenges done that can only be done in the normal game mode. Since event mode should be casual can have bots fill in for those wanting to continue just earning event BP and goofing off in the event mode.
Having a temporary separate event game mode will give players an option to take a breather from the frustrating matches of the normal game mode as well as get players on the same page during an event - which would make the event more enjoyable for everyone.

As a previous suggestion, I think a casual mode should be added in addition to the current ranked match mode (there is no rank, but it says so in the game).

They've said no to that because sweaty competitive players would go into casual mode for easy matches which would defeat the point of a separate casual mode. They have also mentioned not wanting to divide the player base into separate queues.
If they designed events to be a separate game mode they can make it so they are truly a casual mode and it'd only temporarily impact the queues since events only last couple weeks.
