Should the Knight's power count towards Spirit Fury?

Today I just learned that when using his guards to break a pallet The Knight doesn't gain progress toward Spirit Fury. I don't know if this is intentional or not but it seems a little strange that the Knight cant build stacks off of his guards. Should he be allowed to do so?

    Intentional as far as I know - the guards also do not get any benefit from perks that interact with generators, either, i.e. Pop, Eruption, etc. nor do they get any benefit from Brutal Strength.
