How does hatch spawn?

Yeah that title is worded poorly but I can't think of any other way to word it, well anyway I just wanted to know how the hatch spawns exactly. Is it completely random? Or are there set locations it can spawn at? I just wanted to ask because sometimes I have a hard time finding hatch, had a match earlier today where I had to go afk for 20 minutes and me and the survivor still didn't find the hatch.

There are specific locations on each map where the hatch can appear, however, it's all controlled by RNG, and if memory serves me right, it is the same possible spawn location as a generator or hook, I can't exactly remember. You can learn a bit more on its page @ https://deadbydaylight.fandom.com/wiki/Hatch?so=search

A limiting factor that I know for sure exists is that hatch can't spawn in places where you'd be able to see the survivor clip through the ceiling if you were standing under it. This could be the reason why The Game and Midwich don't see hatch spawns on the second floor, but RPD does.

As mentioned, there are specific locations on each map, and it can be helpful to learn where those are.

For example, the Swamp and Gideon maps have a habit of sticking the hatch right in the corner of the map, which can make it easy to miss on a general 'sweep' if you're not looking right in the corner.

Meanwhile RPD has a couple locations that are technically 'upstairs', but as long as there isn't open space directly below then it's a potential spawn location.
