Hatch tracking with the maps.
What's the point of it? Since the map can't actually track the hatch before it appears there is literally no point to using this ability because if you get close enough to track hatch, you'll hear it.
Since hatch spawn is decided at the start of a match so I reckon the map should track the hatch if you happen to walk by where it will spawn. And then reveal it only once the hatch is open.
Especially since there is an actual, rare add on to specifically allow the normal map to track hatch. But it is literally useless and will simply build up in my surv inventories.

I didn't know this was still a thing but that's probably a remnant from when the hatch did appear in the game when multiple survivors were still alive.

Pretty sure it’s supposed to track the location when you are nearby but hatch hasn’t been spawned/revealed yet. Might be bugged at the moment if it’s not working like that?

I did test it a little while ago, maybe a month or two. Took an offering to spawn hatch at killer shack, ran a Rainbow Map (automatically tracks hatch) with a green stamp to catch more stuff in the tracking radius. Ran all around killer shack then after rest of my swf died (we all worked together to test this) then when activated after it had spawned the map did not reveal the aura of the hatch

I would assume this is a bug then as I think it worked differently a while back..

Like what other people said it's probably an oversight from the pass

...you use maps?

Maps are mostly useless, unless you're doing a tome entry or get an iri map in-trial. And that's before the possibility of it getting Franklin'd or you dying and losing it.
If you're hatch hunting, use the perk Clairvoyance and eat a totem. It'll show you the aura of most everything within 64m of you for up to 10sec per totem (only stores 1 totem charge at a time). The hatch will only become visible to perks/maps when you're the last survivor in the trial.
