Wait a second, the chat filter got disabled? HALLELUJAH!
I haven't played DbD a lot in 2023, and I hadn't many lobby conversations on the few nights I did play, but today I exchanged just a few lines with another player and noticed not a single word was censored. I tried a common word that ALWAYS got censored before and nope, no censorship.
I didn't read one or two of the recent patch notes, so maybe it was there and I just didn't see it, but I'm here simply to express my joy on being able to finally communicate in this game without that annoying thing taking random words away. I hope it never returns.

great, can't wait until someone accuses me of nagging but with a slightly different vowel

You can say Kate Denson without censorship? You see, that's a huge improvement!

Were these playing in Live matches on the PTB or in Custom Games?

My screenshot is from a custom game pre-lobby in the PTB.

Nope. In my case, it was a public match on the live servers.
Wait, does that mean it's a bug and the filter is coming back?!

The Dutch have been freed! Long have we awaited this day!

The chat filter is still on (both on PTB and Live) which is why I'm confused. It's normal for it not to flag things in custom games, but it should most definitely hide things that are meant to be hidden on Live.

Maybe it developed enough intelligence to realise it was doing a terrible job, and it just gave up.

or maybe you weren't saying anything that was meant to be hidden...I really want to know what you were saying now!

Well, I'm used to it always censoring random stuff I say, specially certain words in portuguese. The portuguese-equivalent of the verb "want" is an example for that. I tested it and it didn't get censored.
0 -
Well, before it often censored words that shouldn't be meant to be hidden, like "Clown", "Slippery", "ping" and a buch of words in other languages.

Folks better not be talking about Quentin Tarantino Q*entin again!

I understand the censoring in some words but on others makes no sense, specially in my language portuguese. It would be good if this is not a bug.

I've never had the chat filter work in customs or the pre-game lobby myself, or at least didn't notice it until about a month ago. Me and some friends tested it out and said things that definitely would have been censored in a real lobby/real post game chat. I didn't think it was a bug, it was a feature since it wasn't a pub match lol.
If you want I can try to test it out again though, and submit a bug report.

Please let it stay gone!

The chat filter absolutely cripples your ability to talk to other players, it needs to stay gone. It censors "ggswp", so for like a month I started every end game chat with "#####".
It even once censored the letter "I". That's right, I said "I don't know", and got "# don't know". It's pretty terrible and needs to go.
Edit: Also, my name is pretty much always censored, so people can barely talk to me.

The chat filter is so stupid. Just either get rid of the filter or get rid of the chat function altogether.

That flash of fleeting joy, only to realize this is certainly a bug and all my random friendly conversations will be peppered with inexplicable ####s once more...
Seriously, the censor's needed to go from the moment they implemented it. Just add a flat censor for slurs. The one we have is simultaneously easily circumvented by anyone who wants to offend, which I have witnessed on numerous occasions, and a bane on anyone who just wants to discuss the match - especially since they added highly match-relevant terms like teabagging, facecamping, and killing to whatever algorithm it uses. What kind of censor blocks character names or GG?

No amount of censoring does make sense, really. It's a +18 game revolving around a killer trying to gruesomely kill 4 humans trying to escape, ffs. Chat filter is yet another absurd addition to the game that nobody asked for.

slurs should absolutely be censored, though
