A Friday The 13th chapter is now possible, here’s why!
After the lawsuit was over the Friday The 13th license was split in half with Victor Miller holding the rights to the original 1980 Friday The 13th film which means he holds the rights to kid Jason, Pamela Voorhees and the origin to this iconic slasher. Sean S. Cunningham holds the rights to the iconic hockey mask, machete wielding Jason that we’ve all gotten to know and love him for.
Recently Peacock has ordered a Friday The 13th prequel series being made by Cunningham and A24 that doesn’t just include the hockey mask Jason AND his origin story but has full access to the original trilogy. While Cunningham can’t make a movie since they need Victor Millers permission they can do anything they want with a TV series including the stuff from the original film and all of the above.
Since they have free range in this department, that may imply that Cunningham can do anything he wants with advertisement or DLC for their TV Series. I bet if this series becomes successful BHVR could simply approach Cunningham and if everything works out, give us a “Friday The 13th TV Series” chapter that would give them full access to every single Friday The 13th film from the original trilogy, from the OG Friday The 13th to Jason X. BHVR would have full access to all of these films as long as they got Sean Cunninghams permission for the upcoming TV Series. This wouldn’t just have the opportunity to give DBD fans an awesome chapter but since the TV Series can use anything from the entire original trilogy excluding the 2009 remake, the potential for legendary skins would be endless and easily accessible to BHVR.
