We should have a System Shock chapter

With the release of the Skull Merchant DBD has officially dipped its toes into scifi horror, opening the door for licensed chapters from scifi horror franchises like Alien and Dead Space. One franchise though would be perfect for DBD, a franchise coveted for its future spooks and that is getting a remake released very soon. That series, is System Shock

What is System Shock? It is a cyberpunk survival horror series in which you’re trapped on a space station filled with monstrous cyborgs and other man made horrors beyond comprehension controlled by a megalomaniac AI that will stop at nothing until all life is either exterminated or assimilated into its “beauty.” It’s main antagonist the killer AI SHODAN, is one of gaming’s most iconic villains and is scary everytime she talks and taunts you with her glitchy speech that sounds like a failing sound card.

The chapter comes with one killer: SHODAN (The Artificial Intelligence.) SHODAN wouldn’t behave like normal killers since she’s an AI. Instead of controlling a single killer, you’re an omnipotent force that can see the entire map in the trial. (Think like in Evil Dead the Game) While in this state you can zoom across the entire map surveying what is going on, but you cannot interact with anything. Throughout the map are cyborgs standing dormant. To attack survivors and damage generators you will take control of one of these cyborgs. You can leave the cyborg you’re controlling at any time to take control of another one. Survivors will be able to sabotage any dormant cyborgs to slow down your activation giving them time to escape or plan

But the big highlight of SHODAN is when all the generators are done. Instead of escaping through the gates as normal, for survivors to escape they need to shut down SHODAN using an access card somewhere in the map. Then once the access card is found, open the exit gate that SHODAN is in, insert the card, and she will power down, instantly granting the escape to all survivors still alive. (If only one survivor is left and the hatch is closed they can escape through the exit gate as normal)

SHODAN comes with three new perks:

  • Machine Learning: What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Everytime the killer is stunned, you gain a token. Each token increasing your speed. Downing a survivor makes you lose tokens
  • Extermination Protocol: At the start of the match, you will have killer instinct for 5 seconds on the obsession. When chasing the obsession, you will have full bloodlust instantly, but only when chasing the obsession
  • Hive Mind: Your presence is among all around you. Whenever a survivor completes a generator, opens a chest, or cleanses a totem, Hive Mind activates, revealing the survivor’s aura for 15 seconds

I know some will think “this idea is dumb” but System Shock is a series close to my heart and is legendary among horror fans as one of the scariest games ever made, so I genuinely think especially with the remake coming, we should have a System Shock chapter
