Unable to unhook because killer went "inside" the hooked person

Just played against an oni on red forest (temple map).
We wanted to trade hooks so 2 person went to safe. I started an unhook attempt (to fake it first time) and somehow after releasing after a second the oni went partially "inside" the hooked person. Neither me or the other person at the hook got the unhook toggle so the hooked person died.
Unfortunetly i could not clip this but i have never seen that before
