Survivors are bored because their only main objective are generators
It's the only thing that they can do in order to escape and leave the trial. There is literally nothing you have to do besides generators. You don't have any other major objective besides that and you can safely ignore Hex totems because almost all of them sucks badly.
Killers are bored. Survivors are bored.
Do something.

Yes, please, ignore my hex totems. By all means.

Yeah there's a reason for boring gens... I would not like to solve a puzzle or do something more complex with ghostface for example in the field
Yeah and you crazy for ignoring hexes
1 -
Pinhead gives another objective to complete and he’s one of the most complained about killers.
People will complain no matter how you handle this.

I can't ignore hexes because 9 times out of 10 if a killer has a hex, it's usually Devour with Undying.
But it's true that I wish there was something else to do besides the gens. Some people have made suggestions like Botany Knowledge needing to pick up herbs from the map to stack up its effect, and ignoring balancing aspects (which can be polished later on), I think the idea could be really fun.
The problem is, as long as the strongest perks don't require you to do anything in particular to activate them, people will just ignore perks that require a secondary objective as a trigger condition.
Just look at Circle Of Healing. As much as some people think it's stronger than before, you equip that perk out of competitive SWF and it's not worth picking up over Botany or Auto-didact because it requires you to:
- Finding a totem, preferably somewhere where the killer won't break it easily.
- Blessing it.
- A hurt survivor standing in its range.
- Another survivor noticing them and willingly dropping everything they're doing to go heal them without getting caught by the killer in the process.
You're better off equipping Empathic Connection or Empathy, or either entirely ignoring those or comboing them with Botany or We'll Make It, as they're readily available right when you need them.

I enjoy pinhead. He is weak and most pinhead mains have no looping skills.

Merciless Storm + Ghostface = Bad day.

You're right. It's less waste of time and use the time you have to put on generators but that's exactly the problem. Killers are facing lots of gen rushing which has been a major topic complained about but the devs has fallen on deaf ears.

I agree, if you solo queue, get off a gen once and boom, you all get killed.
But as a Killer, drop a Survivor once and the game will soon end with you getting -1 pip.
1 -
That's because that objective isn't fun. It makes doing the gens take even longer because you get interrupted every 2 seconds - and breaking free from the chains is just holding a button btw - and to solve the box you.. do the same thing.
Edit: also to claim Pinhead is one of the most complained about killers when Nurse, Blight, Legion, Knight, Twins, Skull Merchant, Bubba, Plague, Spirit all exist? Nah.
3 -
Collecting items has potential tho, like using herbs to make healing thingy or even reduce 1 hook stage with iridescent herb.
1 -
This it's either everyone is efficient on gens and we win in like 7 minutes with 2 hooks or I have to do every gen because my teammates are allergic to gens and we all die at 3 gens.

I disagree. I have a lot of fun playing the game. And I have interesting builds for killers and survivors that give me new things to do in addition to kill or escape. Do you watch any streamers? Lots of them try fun builds out that are based on anything from lore to hex totems to dragging out games and torturing survivors to slugging or just having fun and being goofy. If you want to suggest more objectives, by all means you should do so. But don't pretend to speak for others and claim that everyone's bored. You're one person and you are qualified to speak with the force of exactly ONE voice. No more. So i'm countering your opinion, and now we're at net zero.
1 -
Never! Not with the Over Zealous offering 20% extra gen speed for taking out a lit totem. 🙂

Because he's annoying to face. Especially in solos. I'm sick of that damn box.
In no way is he weak. A 4 man swf will have an easier time but he's still strong.
3 -
Yeah I was gonna say Pinhead isn’t weak. He wrecks solo queue, lol. I think his kill rates are like amongst the top 5 killers, no? He’s like just behind Blight.
1 -
Imagine a world where Hexes were not nerfed into the ground every patches....
Then maybe survivors would haver other concerns than gens?
4 -
NOED used to make totems valid side objective...
3 -
Agreed.
1 -
I would find it good if as a survivor you had to collect something at the start of the game before you can start with repairing the gens.
Just something small that only lasts about 30 seconds, like One-time gathering of fuel for generators, blueprints for the generators, or simply removing dust from the generator before you can start repairing it.

Pinhead? Really? Did you see skull merchant? Ok suppose we forget about that one. Did you see knight? Ok suppose we ignore those 2. Did you see nurse and blight?

Last time (first time) I got a Pinhead, I was looping him so hard that in end game when he finally downed me, he hitted me on hook and I felt immense pleasure thinking I finally played correctly.
But yeah I was kinda making this Pinhead life miserable by always doing the box every minute.

Actually I agree. Would be great to bring second winning condition for Survivors. But those kind of things should be implemented in "new experimenting modes" first to try it out.
Ideas:
Obsession has the ability to collect the keys which are randomly hidden. Taking the key applies Exposed effect for 40s. With all of keys collected, obsession can open up the gates.

But now there's pentimento in game. You just don't risk doing totems for no reason. It could be catastrophic...
0 -
Noone is using pentimento without other hex.
If you see hex Plaything, then there is high chance of Pentimento.
0 -
You have slightly higher chance to find pentimento then NOED. And plaything is not the only perk that indicates pentimento (even if it's the most common one). Now this patch there's more incentives to play inner healing (maybe combined with overzelous) which tips the balance even more in favor to pentimento vs NOED (even if the difference is not a big one).
But the point stands - you don't mitigate any risk for doing totems in current state of game. You just swap one risk for another one. There's a spot where you could guess it's worth it to try to cleanse bones (you went thru map and after u were hooked once saw at least 3 dull totems - so it's likely no pentimento) - but even better then this is to mentally just note there position so you can cleanse them quickly if/when NOED appears in endgame (maybe even before it's triggered). Overall it's just detrimental on it's own to do bones as it takes time and most likely solves nothing.
0 -
Sure, even with Noed most optimal way was only search for totems, but not cleanse them.
Simply so you could get rid of it asap of needed.
I don't think there will be any valid side objective soon. Reason is quite simple. It would make difference between SWF and soloQ even bigger.
You can see it on Pinhead.
1 -
I can agree with this fully. I am just not sure that your premise of nonexistence of side-objectives (because of widened gap) would be something, that would stop BHVR. But I otherwise agree with you
0 -
BHVR doesn't seem to want this, but you have players, who keep asking for it.
I simply think there is no way it would end well.
I think side objective should stay killer specific power, it can be used simply as tool to make killer unique.

While I understand where people are coming from when using Swf vs solo and Pinhead into the mix for that...
I respectfully disagree.
All it takes in a Solo group is one person that CAN do the box (which frankly, I've done it myself even if I play killer as main... it's not "That hard")
It's the same with any side objectives in any games, I don't see the "Solo vs SWF gap" as a valid point to bring up since its more dependent on the level of experience players have than anything else, and ... well... beginners will be beginners, side quest or not.
the goal would be to diversify what is viable to killer so that... you know, after nerfing gen kicking into a pulp, it would be nice to have some alternate ways to slow the game down that don't involve a play style that makes survivors complain / DC in rage.
But I think my goal is beyond reaching as survivors mains seems to not want such a thing to occur in the first place, they seem quite happy rushing the gen and t-bagging at the gates for 5 min straight as you wait for them to leave...
but if you slow down the game for them in any capacity and down them even once... they just DC.
1 -
I wouldn't mind a mini game while repairing gens. Like having to connect wires to other wires. Make them colour coded or something and if we get them wrong, it blows up. Sitting on gens is boring as hell.
And then killers wonder why survivors bring perks and items to do gens faster.. cause they're the most boring part of dbd. 🫤
